Jake did the whole running business and eventually he ran into a room. The door was slammed shut and he was left with the job of moving a very heavy object. Although he thought of himself as a person who was strong, he didn’t like this job one bit. “God damn it…” was what escaped his mouth as he pushed a big and heavy desk with much effort. It wasn’t mere child’s play. He figured that the desk was fucking metal and weighed way too much for what he liked. It was painfully annoying, but eventually he got it to the door.
“There…” He was relieved. Now that that was out of the way, he looked at the two. “Is everyone alright?”

Meryl moved along with Echo and the desk was definitely enough to withstand the the undead assault... At least for now. Meryl shook her head, Jake asked if everyone was okay, Echo gave a slight nod of his reptilian head. Meryl, however, shook her head again, slipping off her left glove. A few spatters of blood hit the floor. "Nope." She sighed. Echo glanced at her then to Jake. "They got me. I've lasted the majority of my life without taking one nick from anything infected, now it comes down to a small scratch." She shook her head, she didn't look scared but pissed. "She's dangerous." Echo said straight to Jake, as if she couldn't hear him. "No, no. I still have a lot of time and I want to take as many of those fuckers down before I do. It's not hard to tell when I'm about to turn. When it comes to that then you can kill me. Until then, I'll just have to make myself useful." Echo gave a slight nod again and began moving towards the only area they could go from here. Meryl looked at Jake. "You'll take care of Anna, right?" She asked and gave him a slight smile before following Echo down the new hallway. This hallway lead to a split, they could go one way which had two electronic doors, likely inaccessible, the other lead to a broken open door which lead to a giant shaft with three bridges, one of them seemed to be broken, they'd have to jump across if they really needed to. Meryl walked on the edge, something dripped down from above, some kind of slime. She looked up. "Jake... Echo... Are those eggs?" She asked, a pile of eggs at the top of the shaft. Down below was wreckage. Before either of them could answer, one of them directly above Meryl broke open and something big started to drop. Meryl did the only thing she could think of to avoid it, she jumped over the ledge, holding on for dear life. She meant to catch her foot on the ledge so she could hop back over if she could but she missed and ended up dangling. A creature stood between Jake and Echo, and on the other side Meryl who was having trouble bringing herself back up, her bloody hand was too slippery to catch on to the railing. The insectoid didn't even both turning to Meryl, it started walking ominously towards Jake and Echo. "I get too close to those arms and I'll be ripped apart. It has a longer reach than me. You'll have to kill it." He informed Jake. As it crept forward, a chest cavity opened on the insect, a yellow light presenting an easily noticed weakness before sliding closed again. "Jake!" Meryl shouted, anxiously trying to grip the railing. "The stomach. It looks like a breathing sack, aim for it next time it takes a breath."

Breath in. Breath out.
Something that almost all living things did. Jake never thought of it as something hard, but the thought of it caused him pain. All of the sudden, his whole body seemed to ache the same way it did on the day he almost died. He remembered not being able to breathe and he remembered thinking that it was alright to die. Once, he had thought that everything was hopeless and on that day, he had given up.
But regardless of what he had thought back in, someone had saved him. He remembered hating whoever had saved him and he also remembered trying to sleep for an eternity, but fate decided, at that time, to make sure that eternity was an impossible goal. Jake wasn’t sure what really happened or who had saved him, but now, he knew that he could end it all for that creature. No one would save it like he was saved.
Jake, without wasting another moment, raised and aimed the gun in his hands. Within the time he inhaled and exhaled, he pulled the trigger. The bullet collided with its breathing sack and the irritation caused the massive bug to twitch and fall. White boils erupted from its shoulders and Jake fired again. He continued to fire at the white air sac every time it appeared. The pain left him as he fired and soon enough it was gone like the bug.
Eventually his bullets penetrated the sac and as the armor closed on the sac, the sac’s acid quickly ate its way though the bug, dissolving it. It wasn’t until the bug was gone that Jake realized that it felt pain. Before it had disappeared, he heard it scream in pain, and for a brief moment he felt bad, but then he remembered that the undead had killed many.
Finished with his battle, he ran over to help Meryl. He kneeled down at the edge she was at and reached out his hand. “Grab my hand!” He shouted at her, not knowing that this scene was like a scene so many years back. The differences were that the one hanging was his mother and the one helping was Jack. Of course, his mother would never admit that it ever happened, but hopefully, like in the past, no one would fall.

Echo walked over, Meryl let Jake grab her arm, now only relying on Jake's strength to keep her suspended. "Wait. Don't pull her up. She is a danger to everyone and to her own daughter. The fall will kill her painlessly."Meryl paused and looked at Jake. Pictures of her daughter and everyone else flashing in her mind. --- Area flashback--- "He's... Right.. Just let me go..." Jake might have put up some protest. "Jake... You and I know it's too late..." She spoke softly. Her hazel eyes looked into his eyes. He'd have to make a choice, drop her or be a stubborn bastard and bring her up. The fact that she hasn't tried to force him to let go made it clear that she had no death wish and would accept it if he had saved her. Crashes and bangs could be heard coming from the room they had entered from, their barricade would not hold long. Jake had to act quick.

Jake held on to her tightly and when he heard Echo, his grip only tightened more. He looked at Echo and glared. He wasn’t going to drop her and he knew that he wouldn’t forgive himself for killing another person. “Heh.” He chuckled after she asked him to let her go. “Shut up. You’re going to make it.” He looked back down at her and pulled her up. Maybe she would be angry at him, but he didn’t care. Even if he was prolonging the inevitable, he didn’t want her to die.
He didn’t realize that even after he had pulled her up that he still was holding on to her, but without much thought, he was leading her quickly away from the crashes and bangs. His grip on her was a protective one while they moved through the area and he kept attentive. It was perhaps now that he looked like who he really was. A man who had grew up in a horrible kind of world and had trained the rest of his life to combat it. The words doctor and scientist were just images people forced onto him. Truthfully, Jake didn’t think himself as those. They didn’t commit acts against all of humanity and if they did, they didn’t know they were at fault.

Meryl didn't have time to marvel at the fact that Jake had decided not to let her drop. Any sane person would have let go of her. She wasn't angry, she didn't want to think he was stupid but now she was slightly worried about what would happen. Those thoughts were in the back of her mind, before she could even move when she went back over the rail, Jake had moved her, he picked her up and began moving, she looked back and saw the Desert Eagle laying on the bridge. The SMG was still strapped to her but she was dying to use the Eagle. Suddenly she saw a few of the red bastards running towards them. Without thinking she grabbed Jake's pistol from his holster and began firing, not letting her legs stop but she didn't have to focus where she was going, that was Jake's job. A few more shots, two missing but one hitting, it was difficult to aim when you were shooting with a bloody hand. They went across and into a large room, Jake had let go. From the looks of it they were at a dead end but there was a lot of rubble nearby, consisting of a few heavy metal sheets. Meryl ran to one and began pulling at it, despite both arms being in a lot of pain. "Jake!" She called and with his help they were able to block up yet another door. Meryl sat against the wall panting, Jake's handgun laying on the floor and her holding her right arm. "Damn..." She gasped. "I don't want to do that again." "You wont." Echo responded and Meryl flipped him off. "It's nothing personal." "Of course it isn't..." Echo walked over to the edge, past skeletal remains, the uniform was yellow, looked to be like a scientist. A name plate read the name "Monica" in the skeletal fingers was a key card. To Jake there would be a familiar face plastered on it with the name reading "Yoko Suzuki" and an Umbrella emblem on the side. "Eve is down. 6 floors. There is an elevator at the bottom. We must restore power." Meryl shook her head. "And how do we do that? This place is blown to hell. Or do you not notice the wall of debris beside me?" "The shaft we were in. That was a power core. It wasn't heavily damaged. The mainframe may still work." Meryl laughed, shaking her head. "We'd have to deal with those things. Even then, we don't know how to get it working or if it's even in one piece. There might be a maintenance hatch nearby we could use to get down a level." "That could take hours to get to her level." Meryl sighed. She's really starting to dislike this monster. "I don't know what to do. But someone better decide quick before I feel like turning faster." She joked without any humor and picked herself up, bent down to pick up Jake's gun and held it out to him. "Thanks."

After moving something in front of the door, he dropped right where he was standing and took a rest. He listened to Echo’s and Meryl’s exchange, but said nothing and waited until they were done. “Hey…” He spoke up. “You’re not dead yet.” He looked up with a grin, attempting to hide his sadness. Jake got up from the floor and walked over to her to look at her wound. Not saying much else, he continued to listen to the two as he thought about how to help Meryl.
Without the proper tools, he could only wrap her hand and anything else would have to be done later, but he figured that stopping the bleeding would be good enough. Right when he was about to rip apart of his shirt, Meryl stopped him and handed his gun to him. “Sorry. You dropped the eagle and I didn’t let you get it.” He holstered the gun and nodded before continuing on to wrap the woman’s hand. “Is there anything else that’s hurting?” He got up from the floor, he had been kneeling to fix her hand, and looked at her before turning to look at Echo.
“I could do it.” He said, offering himself once more. “I have some knowledge on technology.” Although not formally trained, Jake knew some things from him messing around with a few doodads and gadgets. “And if we deal with them…we won’t have to worry about them later.” Any moves I don’t like though, he thought, I won’t hesitate. “And…I don’t want to be stuck in here forever.”

Meryl moved her left hand, it stung bad but at least it was bandaged to the best it could be at this point. "No, I'm okay." She assured him. Then he began giving his position. It seems he was for the idea of restoring power. She shook her head, this was a crazy idea. If she presents herself as the biggest target, then Jake will have a chance of not getting hurt. She was expendable, that's why he brought her up, he needs her to help them survive. Meryl's eyebrows lowered, she was angry and she hardly could figure why. "Well." She said in a low venomous voice. "At least I'll get my Eagle back, and rip the son of a bitch who scratched me apart." She growled then reached into her coat where her breasts were, fiddled around for a second a snap could be heard, then out came the familiar glasses that were once worn by Jack Anderson. She hadn't been wearing them for a while but she kept them close and now they once again veiled her eyes. She turned her attention towards Echo. "You planning on helping this time? Or sitting back like a pussy?" She swung the SMG around and turned off the safety. She then rotated her right shoulder until a slight pop could be heard, she smiled. "You think I'm already dead, monster?" She asked Echo, who eyed her curiously and with great interest. "Yeah, though I walk through the valley of death..." She walked past Jake and to one side of the metal slab, and motioned for him to go to the other. "I will fear no evil..." She gripped the metal slab with her bandaged hand and right elbow, her right hand holding onto the SMG. "For I am the baddest bitch in the valley." It seems Jake was able to take the cue, both of them pushed and the metal slab fell. Meryl and Jake backed up quick, the undead creatures were quick to rush in. Meryl fired in 3 round bursts with the gun as she backed up closer to the pile of debris. Two were moving towards her, two for Jake and only a measly one for Echo. When Meryl was close enough to the debris, she knelt down and picked up a large chunk of concrete, firing wildly with the other arm, she readied her arm and launched it, smashing against the skull of one of them who dropped but wasn't yet dead. This was surprising but Meryl didn't have time to wonder why the fuck it wasn't dead, not to mention how many bullets were being pumped into their heads. Click click click, the mag was spent, she wouldn't have time to reload, it was all or nothing now. She shoved the gun forward and snapped the strap then clubbed the oncoming undead, it didn't phase it, again, again. Now the other was coming around. She growled and actually threw the gun at the oncoming one then ducked around the other who tried to grab her. She withdrew her large combat knife and timed her attack, one lunged and missed the other came around. Meryl shoved her knife into his head, already fragile from the chunk of concrete, she was able to get it in, then she pulled and the top of the skull came right off, it looked like a victim after an autopsy. The half headed undead fell to its knees then to the floor, a maggoty brain literally rolling out onto the floor. Meryl did a quick sprint towards the other one and kicked him, he stumbled back a few steps before trying to desperately run at her again. She kept him at bay with another kick. Then she spun and kicked him again, sending him back again just where she wanted him. She leaped into the air with a spin then did one last powerful kick into the infected's chest, sending it flying off the edge and down to splatter on the elevator below. Meryl immediately turned to make sure the others were okay, Echo was finished with his, Jake was finishing with his final one.
A minute before Meryl finished. Echo eyed the one that began coming for him but then noticed it stop and turn its attention towards Jake. That would make the human have three on him, that just wont do. Echo began at a sprint in pursuit of the renegade infected. A simple leap and he pulled it down to the ground then began a flurry of strikes at its back, ripping what rotten flesh was left on it. When it became apparent that this wasn't doing much, the head was able to throw Echo off. Echo flipped back to his feet and rushed forward again, when the reptile was locked he leaped, right hand in the air and then his feet tapped on the ground, a second later the head of the Crimson Head fell behind the reptile. The humans seemed to be finishing up with theirs, it would be best not to get in the way.

Jake was a little surprised at Meryl’s change of tone, but it was reasonable. It was then that she pulled out some glasses which caused him to turn to her. He wanted to tell her not to die, but he knew that saying that would be stupid. Stupid because it was going to happen sooner or later, but regardless of that, he wasn’t going to stop fighting. He pulled out his handgun and he moved over to the slap of metal. After the thud was heard, Jake backed up and began his fight with two of the undead. Like he had been taught, he aimed for the heads and fired. It didn’t change much until one rushed him and so, to keep it away, he brought up his foot and gave a nice kick. The crimson head stumbled back and fell to the ground momentarily, but that gave him enough time for him to face the other one.
The other crimson head charged while wildly swinging its arms around. Jake backed up and dodged several times. When it lunged at him, he took a step to the side and let it run passed him. He made a slight turn and as if perfectly timed, he fired as the handgun’s muzzle seemed to touch the bastard’s head. The creatures head collided with the floor first and its body seemed to follow. He noticed its twitching and decided that he wouldn’t give it a chance to recover. Jake emptied a whole clip into its head and turned back to meet the other one.
However, he had given the other one too long of a recovery. Once he had turned, the crimson head gave a nice slash at him. Jake brought back his arm, but still, it had knocked his gun away from his hand. Now empty handed, Jake fought the only way he knew he could. The arm that had dodged arced back and with added momentum, he brought down his fist on the Crimson head’s…head. Surprisingly to him, his punch was strong enough to stun it, but now, he needed a way to kill it.
Quick to think, he moved to the back of the creature and grabbed hold of it, careful to avoid getting cut. Without another second to waste, the man leaned back quickly and successfully landed a suplex. By successfully, Jake managed to crack blow its skull open and completely ruin its head. As Jake got off of the ground and retrieved his weapon, he wondered how he had managed to do that. He wasn’t a wrestler and he had only watched those moves. Oh well. It didn’t matter. What mattered was that he beat the shit out of a monster with his bare hands. That was a new feat for him.
Now finished, and covered with undead crap, he approached the other two while wiping some stuff off of him. This time he didn’t ask if anyone was ok. He just looked at the two and saw that there weren’t any new cuts. “Off to the mainframe…” He nodded and stepped over the slab.

Meryl gave a nod when Jake said it was time for the mainframe. The group walked out into the main shaft again, Meryl glanced over the edge and felt a chill up her spine, she could be splattered down there right now. Then she saw it, laying flat on the metal grating, her Eagle. She jogged over to it and retrieved it. She has decided to leave the smg, with the strap broken, it would hinder her movement, the eagle was small enough, though and she had a holster. Meryl saw Jake fiddling with the middle he took out a small fuse, looked like a vial. Jake told them that it was empty. "This place runs its own electricity. There should be an area to refill it nearby." Meryl walked passed them and looked at the broken bridge to the area they haven't been. "Over there." "You wouldn't make it across." Meryl looked back. "Jake, I need your help." She told him and looked back at Echo. "Watch me." When Jake came, Meryl instructed him to cup his hands and told him that she was going to jump into them and when she does, he's to launch her across. After the feat he showed in the elevator shaft, she was confident he could do it and if not, then she falls and they don't have worry about killing her later. "Okay..." Meryl took a breath and sprinted towards Jake, jumping and putting her right foot in his cupped hands, he did as instructed and she was soaring into the air for a few seconds before she rolled on the other end to absorb the collision. She picked herself up and nodded back at Jake. Two sudden noises stopped her slight celebration. A clunk over where Jake was and a plop where she was. Jake could see his adversary, another one of those bugs, Meryl cautiously stepped forward and a similar creature walked out from the corner. "Shit!" She backed to the edge of where she was thrown. Another clunk, looks like Jake had two to deal with. Once again, not sunshine and lollipops. Echo glanced at Jake. "You can handle this, human."

Jake got to the mainframe and messed with the machine a bit. It wasn’t long before he took out a small fuse and came to the conclusion that they needed to fix it. Of course he told them it was empty but before he could say anymore, the oversized lizard said something. Unsure of what to do next, he kept quiet. The suggestion of a new area came up and the lizard shot it down, but before he knew it, he was dragged into the situation. Jake looked at Meryl and shrugged his shoulders before he walked over.
“Yeah, what do you need?” He listened to her and raised a brow. “You want me to do what? Are you sure about that? What if I drop-“ Without answering any of his questions, she began to sprint and she leapt. Jake had quickly cupped his hands and launched her to the other side. Surprised at the outcome, he was about to yell at her for doing something dangerous, but again, he was interrupted. This time, however, the cause of interruptions was two large insects.
Surrounded by the massive insects, he had no where to run and still the stupid oversize lizard said words of support. Jake, knowing that he couldn’t just simply knock them down, waited till they were both near him. In unison, the bugs swung their appendages of doom at him and he dropped to the floor. The bugs ended up striking each other, and perhaps in frustration, if they had emotions, the two bugs continued to make swings at each other.
He could tell that the fight between the two was soon to end, so he carefully crawled away. Once he was a safe distance away, he turned to watch the two insects die together. They dissolved away, but for an odd reason, he still heard the sound of acid eating away at something. It was then that he realized that some of the acid had gotten on him. “Shit…” He pulled off his jacket and tossed it aside, not caring where it landed. The acid burned large holes into the jacket instead of him. “Heh… I fucking hate this place…”

Meryl aimed the eagle at the chest plate, remembering Jake handle that first one. "Wait until it opens..." She whispered to herself. She didn't have much time to make this shot, she couldn't move anywhere and the walls around her wont allow her to maneuver around it. It was do or die. Finally the chest plate open and the breathing sack protruded, Meryl didn't waste time and fired a single shot that ripped straight through the creature, spilling the acid all over itself. Soon enough it had evaporated. Meryl began moving she came to a fork, one with an open shutter. There was a room straight ahead, it was electronically locked. One to the right and one to the left. She went right and tried the door, it was electronically locked as well, she turned and went the opposite direction, entering the large door that had no electronic lock whatsoever. She walked around a corner and found many panels and a strange arm (Terry would love this scene). Meryl had no idea what to do, she removed her radio. "Jake, I think I found the right room but..." She paused, seeing a notice on the wall. She read through it quickly. "Nevermind." She put the radio back to her waist and pushed a button to activate the arm, she figured it wouldn't work but if they did need to get power on then this machine likely didn't run by electricity, maybe battery. She was right, the machine came to life and the fingers opened up. Meryl put the fuse under it, the machine detected it and grabbed it from her hand, putting it into a small compartment. Words flashed on a screen nearby, "Please wait while capsule is filled". "I think I got it Jake." She said, having put the radio by her again. She walked over to this strange lever and read it, it controlled the temperature. "Be warned, temperatures could drop below freezing point". "I just got this crazy idea." She said into the radio once again. There was no power to the system, when they get power restored, she'd know how to get rid of these creatures once and for all. Finally the machine dinged off, the arm grabbed the fuse and presented it to Meryl who grabbed it immediately. "Coming back." Meryl ran out of the room and down the hall, turning the corner where she saw Jake and Echo on the other end. "Get ready... Please don't drop it..." She called to him and threw the fuse towards him, it was a good throw, hopefully a good catch was in order. As Jake put the fuse back in, Meryl looked at the broken bridge and shook her head. Things began roaring to life, the radios began accumulating static. Meryl ignored it. "Jake, I can't get across. I'll try to find another way. You see if you can get the elevator working. Oh and... Stay warm." She turned and began running down the hall she had come from.

And so the waiting game happened. Jake found a sturdy part on the railing and leaned against it and soon enough, Meryl came running back. “Took you long enough.” He grinned and she launched the fuse. Jake, having once been a baseball player, caught the fuse easily and quickly placed the fuse back in.
Things began to turn on and Jake noticed his radio begin to pick up noise. “Geez…” The last time he had this much static interference, he was back in a US military base and he hated that place. “Yeah stay warm.” He muttered as the woman left while looking at his jacket. Sighing, he continued to mess with the panel, but eventually he noticed there weren’t any buttons to activate the elevator. “Uhhh damn…” He picked up his radio and clicked the button. “The panel I’m at doesn’t have the controls, Meryl. There’s probably it’s own control panel somewhere else. I’m going to go look for it…”
As if on cue, he noticed that it had become colder and then the static increased. Jake looked at his radio and soon enough voices could be heard. “I trust that you have…I need…” A male’s voice said through the static and then another voice, accompanied with heavy static followed. “I do….” There was a long pause. “You…trust me…right? We…uilt this together….going to take them down…” And then that was the end of the interference.
Weird, Jake thought before he continued on.
After looking around, he realized that he just couldn’t find it. “Any clu-Oh…” Eventually he looked at a hallway blocked by debris and raised up his radio. “Meryl, bad news. I think the control panel might be behind debris. Can’t tell for certain but I’d know that it would probably be near the elevator…” He paused and then continued on. “I’m going to look for a way to help you out…and…Did you hear the interference? Kind of spooky.” He let go of the button and laughed. Ghosts weren’t real.

Meryl quickly returned back to the room she had restored the fuse, she went around and saw that the conditioning unit was getting power. "Okay... time to make this place as cold as outside... Or colder." She pulled the lever up, it was tough, the lever was rusted and old, it may have gotten wet in the past, either way, she was able to get it around. Sounds could be heard rustling throughout the facility then out of the ventilation system, she could see white mist coming out, the temperature must be as low as it could get. She could feel it and a shiver ran down her spine. Now was the time she needs to find a way out and to Jake. There was nothing in this room, maybe in the other two. She ran out and to the first door she saw at the T junction, she tried it but it wouldn't budge, the room must be collapsed. She continued to the only other door and entered. More test tubes and other signs that they stored B.O.Ws here. She looked around anxiously but to no avail. She could hear Jake saying that there was no way to raise the elevator. She shook her head, then seconds later the static started to produce words. When the men had ceased their conversation, Meryl picked up her radio but before she could speak Jake said that the panel may be behind debris. "Shit, okay. Jake, I have no way to go around. I'm trapped here." He confirmed that he would help her find a way out, then he asked about the interference. "Yes, I heard it. I don't know what it could be. There may be people here... And if that's true then they can hear us. But... It doesn't make sense why it started after we turned the power on." She let go of the button. What could they be referring to? Could be a loop of a broadcast? No, it was a conversation, it was spooky. Meryl moved around to where the main shaft was and watched Jake come from the room with the elevator. Must be trapped behind the debris there, maybe there was an air duct around there she could slip into, she didn't want to, she was already folding her arms at the cold, if she had to climb through she'd come back with frost in her hair. Then again, she was expendable, might as well make it happen. "Just focus on trying to get me passed and we'll find a way around to the control circuit... Where's Echo?" The monster wasn't in sight, was it planning on attacking them? Did it run off on its own? Maybe it found something, either way, their reason for being here slipped away from them.

Jake walked around and eventually found something for Meryl to climb across. “Hmm…” He examined the object and then grinned. “Zombies must have had an orgy around it.” Although it had originally sounded funny, the thought of that made him cringe and he was glad to have gloves. Good thing none of the spots on the ladder weren’t wet…Or maybe it wasn’t so good…eww. Regardless, he carried the ladder to the broken bridge and hesitantly readied it to help her. “Uh….try not to touch the spots.” He warned and soon he had the ladder join the two bridge parts.
When Meryl was almost across, he reached out his hand. Whether or not she had taken it, he would have pulled her up. After she was safely across, Jake took his flashlight and shined it in her eyes, checking for changes. “For now, you seem well.” He said as he continued to check her. “Pulse…and temperature seem fine as well. You seem to be breathing just fine.” He didn’t notice it, but Jake seemed more relieved, even if she still could show signs.
