The keyword was tried.
I went to the hospital with broken ribs and a scratched up arm so my left arm and my upper body was covered in white wrappings. When you were wearing black shorts and a white wife beater, with your wrappings showing, people acted differently around you, but I didn’t choose my clothes. I was just given these clothes, and a bag of my stuff, and kicked out of the hospital. Maybe bitching about the food they gave me wasn’t my best of ideas, but what was done was now done…
“Jillian!” I felt my sister’s arms embrace me and heard her cry. When was the last time I had seen her? “I missed you, Jill-Jill.” “Bitch, you’re still taller than me…” I muttered, as she continued to hug me, but I don’t think she heard me. “I’m so glad you’re alright. After all these years, huh? My god, why didn’t you call back? I thought you were dead…Jilly, I missed you…You made me so worried about you.” At last, she let go of me and I smiled. I had to admit that I missed her too. Behind her, I heard a car door close, and my smile got wider when I saw who it was.
“Don’t worry, Jilly. She’s wearing heels.” He walked over to me and was about to give me a hug, but I took my fist and punched out his face. “Ow! Shit! My nose is bleeding!” He staggered back and tried to stop the blood, while I massaged my hand. “You have a very hard nose..” I continued to massage my hand and my sister just stood there with her hands covering her opened mouth. “Guys, do you really have to fight?” She asked and I didn’t look at them.
Jay was about to hit me back, but he stopped his charge and looked down at me. “You owe me one hundred fifty bucks…” I cried, with teary eyes, “…and a big hug…I thought you left and got yourself kill, you asshole…” “Jill…did you have to punch me though?” I rubbed my eyes and looked up at him. “I missed your birthday and never gave you your birthday punches.” I grinned and cracked my knuckles. “Cherlyn…did I have to come with you to pick her up?” He asked.
Yes. We were still siblings. Cherlyn was still the angel of the three and Jay was still annoying. Out of us three, I think I would have been considered the little devil, but that’s not how the two saw me, and that made me glad.
We all entered our sister’s car and drove away. “You smell disgusting Jillian…Do you work at a dump?” My brother asked and I laughed. “Nope, but if I told you what happened…You would probably laugh and worst.” “Try us, hun.” Cherlyn said from behind the wheel. “Fine…I will…Did you read the newspapers a few days…a week ago?” They nodded their heads and I continued, “Raccoon city explosion…The US government are forced to destroy a whole city…” “Not the US…It could be terrorists, Jilly, ‘cause the US won’t bomb a city filled with people.” “Oh haha! Live people!? The US government destroyed Raccoon City because it was a biohazard…a big one…with the living dead and monsters.”
They rolled my eyes at me. “You shouldn't watch horror movies too much...It's bad for you.” Jay said, patting me on the back. “I work in Raccoon City…There were monsters and I swear to god I was actually in a horror film and not watching it…I saw the living dead walking…monsters and more…For a whole night, I fought for my life against dead things that should have stayed dead. You gotta believe me!” “You just came out of the hospital…I think the medicine they used on you is making you a tad crazy…Don’t worry, Jill…You can rest at my place.” My sister offered.
Childishly I yelled and crossed my arms. “You guys are so mean!” Still sisters and brother. “Why won’t you guys believe me?” Gee, why wouldn’t they believe me? I mean it’s so easy to believe that the undead do exist and will come out to kill you. Ha, yeah, right... The whole ride I told them about my story and described everything I had seen. They listened, but they didn’t believe me. When they told me to write a book, I knew that they didn’t believe me. I found this funny.

I finally made it to my sister’s house and found a pleasant surprise. My sister had gotten married and had three beautiful kids. I couldn’t help but smile when my two nephews and my niece ran up to hug and kiss their mother. They were the cutest little things I have ever seen, but then again, this happened right after the Outbreak…Ha, my son has to be the cutest out of all of the kids…Anyways, we have arrived at the house around dinner time.
“Mommy, who’s that?” My sister’s oldest child pointed at me. “You remember when I said I was going to pick up my little sister?” The little girl nodded and looked up at Cherlyn. “Are you Auntie Jillian?” She asked, after looking me up and down. I pointed at myself and then realized that she was talking to me. I nodded and laughed before kneeling down to see her cute little face. “Yes, I’m your aunt…I guess…” “You’re real young…Are you sure you’re my auntie?” I laughed. “Yeah…but if it makes you feel better call me Ji…” I got a nice whack from my sister on the back of my head and flipped her off. Flipping her off only gave me another whack. “Ow…Just call me Auntie!”
My sister introduced me to all of her family and then showed me her room. I thought she was going to show me the rest of the house, but when we got to her room she pushed me into her bathroom and told me to take a nice long bath. I knew she cared, but did I really smell that bad? Oh well, I felt great when I got that nice long bath.
I changed into some pants with Corona bottles on them and then took a loose-fitting white shirt. While I had been bathing, my sister had set out some flurry pink slippers, and I quickly put them on so I could meet them all downstairs. “Hi guys.” I said, and my sister pulled me out of the dining room. “Tell me, Jill…I was looking through your stuff and found…” “Two guns, Umbrella stuff, bullets, a combat knife, and beef jerky, right? I wouldn’t eat the beef jerky though…” My sister slapped her fore head and cursed in a foreign language. I wouldn’t know which one though. I only speak English… “Why, Jill? Tell me why.” “Because I sat on it. Duh.” She cursed again. “Jill, I’m not talking about the jerky! Why do you have this stuff when a normal security guard, or that’s what you assured us you were, should not have anything like this!?” “Is it ok…if I have dinner before telling you… I can’t tell on an empty stomach.” She sighed and then we had dinner. I found out that my sister had married a master cook. Man, did she know how to pick her men. Haha.
“So what’s this about?” Jay asked, holding up my bulletproof vest and my tactical vest with the Umbrella symbol on the back. “That?” They nodded. “Standard uniform…” “What? This is Standard uniform…? You’re just front desk security, Jill…You don’t need to be dressed…like you’re going to war…” “Believe me…war people don’t wear this stuff…More like SWAT maybe? ‘cause SWAT wears this stuff and not war people…I mean isn’t it a ‘tad too heav---“ “Jesus! We aren’t even joking!”
So for the rest of the night they pretty much yelled at me for my job. They told me it was too dangerous and such. I didn’t scream back at them or do anything bad; I just listened. They yelled and scolded me for about an hour before they decided to go to bed. It was eleven at night and I had nothing to do, so I turned on and watched TV until I fell asleep. The next day I left with my sister to find a job. We did and a few days later I was working at Starbucks making people their stupid complicated drinks. With help from my brother and sister, and from my own money, I finally got enough money to buy another apartment.
My apartment was a lot smaller than the one I had in Raccoon, but I liked it a lot better. I didn’t have to deal with rats or cutting myself with a loose coil from the couch, or even have to deal with a stinky neighbor. Yes, and it was a lot closer to my new job. I didn’t even have to drive to work anymore. At that moment, everything seemed to be doing great….

Months had passed and the only big achievement I had made in that time period was employee of the month. I actually felt happy when I got that award that one month, because you never got this kind of stuff in Umbrella. Life was just going smoothly and I loved it. I just simply loved being able to walk to my job without getting a new mission getting shoved into my face. It just seemed like that when I worked for Umbrella and I wasn’t happy with it at all. All they told you was to guard this, kill that, or shoot it. Heh…good thing no one knows about what I used to do.
“Hey Steven…” “Morning, Hun.” Oh, did I mention that I met my husband at this Starbucks? He received some army training, or something like that, and just so happened to have the time to work at a coffee shop. At this time, we had just started dating, but we were really close. I know so much about him, but he still doesn’t know everything about me…I wonder…Am I a bad person for not telling him everything?
Steven kissed me on the lips and ran his hand through my hair. “Hey, babe…” I said, breaking away from his kiss. “We have work to do…and I don’t think the customers want to watch us doing this...” I could see his face turn redden and I giggled. When ever he got embarrassed his face would turn red and he would bite his lip. I don’t know…I just like watching that happen…so yes, I did embarrass him on a daily basis.
“Hey, can we get some service around here?” A woman said. My heart was still excited from his kiss, and I was still trying to get my mind off that topic, so I didn’t recognize who was speaking until I saw her. “Employee of the Month… my ass…” She said to me, and I couldn’t help but crack a smile. “So what would you recommend for me today?”
“I’d say black guts on a platter and perhaps a cup of old blood would do…but Starbucks don’t serve that kind of stuff…so I’ll say pick your own poison, Ayami.” Ayami had left her black hair down on that day, and was wearing a classy black coat. I didn’t bother to see what else she wore, because I really didn’t care at that time. I just knew that I was glad to see her. “…Two grande coffees will do…” “Two? You drink that much?” “No, I’m getting one for Jack…”
“Ok…what do you guys want?” “Coffee.” She told me, but then I repeated the question. “Well…” Ayami’s eyes turned to the ground. “Well?” “Jack and I will tell you later…meet us at this restaurant…and thanks for the coffee, Jill.” She paid and then I handed her both of the coffees. I seriously didn’t like where everything was going. Months ago, Sola had spoken to me about working for Umbrella again, and now it was Jack and Ayami. At first everything was just going swell but after that moment, my life was thrust back into the ‘I-can’t-get-to-work-without-having-a-mission-shoved-into-my-face’ lifestyle. Well not really, but they both sucked.
I arrived at the restaurant, with my boyfriend, at eight. Ayami didn’t look too happy when I showed up with my boyfriend and Jack didn’t look pleased either. “…Jillian…” was what Ayami said and Jack said, “Oh…” I replied with, “Haha. You guys are great. This is my boyfriend, Steven…and this is Ayami Garnet and Jack Anderson. Friends of mine…Close friends…I guess…Hun, you’ll never believe what I’ve been through with them…” “Yes, what we’ve been through…” Jack said. “Jack…you haven’t changed one bit…” He rolled his eyes and Steven pulled out a chair for me before he sat down. I wouldn’t know if Jack would have done the same because when we dated in high school the most formal place he had taken me was the fast food burger place down the street.
“I could have done that.” He murmured, as if he had read my mind.
I sat there and looked at my boyfriend. “Cale, I need to go to the restroom.” The moment he called me that, my smile had turned into a frown and I gave out an annoyed chuckle. After he heard it, he got up and walked away. I could see Ayami’s raised eyebrow and Jack with his stupid smile.
“Cale?” Ayami asked.
“Yeah, Cale.” I muttered.
“What is that a nickname?” Jack tried not to laugh.
“No…It’s my middle name…” I covered my mouth as I said this, but they still seemed to hear me. Stupid parents… Ayami seemed to keep her straight face, which I thought was strange, but Jack just started to laugh. I couldn’t see what was so funny about it, but then again...this was Jack that we were talking about. “…Shut up…jackass... So what exactly did you want me to talk about?”
Ayami elbowed Jack as he drank his water and he nearly choked. “We need your help…” She began, and calmly took a sip of water, “Umbrella’s after us…and if you can join them again…”
“No…What is up with this Umbrella bullshit? I don’t care if it shuts down or continues on…I just don’t want to be apart of any of it. I’ve left that place…”
“Jillian…we—”
“Do you really think that it’s easy? You want me to join and get you all the information? Bull…Shit. It doesn’t work that way… Sola offered me a chance to join them again, but I said no…I don’t want to work for them… period… and…I just don’t like protecting something that caused the deaths of millions…”
“Wait…you talked to Sola…That dirty little…” Jack started up but I interrupted.
“I wish you well in the future…or in other words, don’t die so soon.” After I had finished saying this, I walked out. Ayami looked at me and soon turned away. For some reason, it seemed as if she had expected this to happen, but Jack on the other hand couldn’t keep his mouth shut… I don’t remember what I was feeling, but I do remember leaving my boyfriend there. He wasn’t too happy about it, but he wasn’t mad. He drove me to my small apartment and kissed me goodnight, before I went to take a bath.

In Deep Shit-
“Umbrella…” I lowered my body into the hot water, and sighed as it hit my cold skin. At this time, it seemed to me that I would never find a moment of peace in my life. I sighed again and closed my eyes. “I want to stay with my boyfriend…and have a little boy. I’m going to name him, Jake…and have a peaceful life without Umbrella. Then, I’ll become a happy old lady with cute little grandchildren… I’m going to spoil them beyond belief…I can’t wait for that life…” That’s all I wanted. All I wanted was a somewhat ‘normal’ life, without stupid Umbrella, or anything like that. I wanted to be like my big sister. I wanted to be in a good relationship and have kids. I never wanted to be apart of the Outbreak, and up until now, I wish I had never joined Umbrella.
When I had wrapped myself in a white bathrobe and walked into my room, I noticed my window open, and smiled, remembering I had left it that way. “It’s chilly…Ha, ha…” I walked over to it, but stopped, hearing the floor creak under my foot. “Hmm…this always seems to…” My voice trailed off as I spotted a dark figure in my mirror, but I acted as if nothing was wrong and walked over to the drawer near the open window. After moving a few things around, I found the handgun that I had used during the outbreak, and pulled it out carefully, acting as if it was a piece of clothing I had picked.
Still wet and now shivering, I waited for the intruder to make his move. That bitch is going down, I thought. Thinking that I had probably let my guard down, the intruder entered my room and approached me. Right when I heard the floor boards creak, I swung around and aimed my gun at his head. I was taken back by what I saw. “Umbrella…” I said, recognizing the symbol on the person’s shoulder. “What the hell do you want?”
He stepped back when he saw my twitchy finger on the trigger, but after that, he stood his ground. The Umbrella goon lowered his weapon and I moved back and closed my open window. “What the hell do you want?” I said, slightly raising my voice. He didn’t say anything or do anything, but the stupid gas mask on his face was starting to annoy me, and if he hadn’t taken it off, I would have killed him.
“No need for unnecessary violence… You seriously aren’t like how people said you were before…” He whispered into my ear after taking the gun out of my hands and pinning me against the wall. I couldn’t see him very well, but this asshole was strong. “You have two choices…no three. First one… make a mistake and you die…second one…die right now…Last and in my opinion the best…help us out… You turned down Valance’s offer and I saw you turn down your friends…”
“Let me go…”
“Most people don’t get third chances…some don’t even get a second chance at life, so I would say choose widely, Jillian Masters…”
“I don’t want to join Umbrella for the last time!”
“You’re an idiot…” I tried to turn my head back, but I still couldn’t see. “…Like you said earlier…‘Do you really think that it’s easy?’” Her voice said as her heavy boots hit the floor. “Once you’ve joined Umbrella, you can never get out of it unless you’re dead…you and I should know that well…You’ve been the killer as well…and now you’re the person who’s going to die…”
“And now I’m the person who’s going to die...That isn’t new…” I rolled my eyes, and the goon pulled me back and then shoved me back into the wall. “Ow! Cut it out!” I shouted. When you were being pushed against a wall, it hurt and was annoying, but that was the least of my annoyances. I was freezing to death. I had just come out of a bath and then I was attacked before I could get dry and change. Let me tell you this…when you think you are going to be attacked, get some clothes on first.
“Give us your answer.”
“Bite my ass!” Yeah, I know it sounded stupid, but I couldn’t think of anything else to say and it still worked at annoying the guy. He slammed me into the wall once more and I jerked my head backwards to hit him in the face. Well it worked, but I couldn’t say that it didn’t hurt me too… As he recovered from the blow I gave him, I was trying to get over to my gun that he through over my bed. I successfully got to it and without hesitation I fired three shots at the goon.
“Oh…shit.” I didn’t expect to kill him so quickly and I certainly didn’t expect to get a lucky shot, but I did… I shot him as he crawled over my bed and now he had a hole in his head, and two in his vest. The guy looked pissed, even if he was dead, and his hand was reaching out for me. He looked so alive, and it frightened me. I shot at him with my last two bullets and made sure he was dead.
His partner looked at me and I think she realized my fears, but she said nothing of it and instead said, “Stupid! Look what you did! We need to get out of here!” The woman grabbed me from off the ground and pushed me out of my apartment door. She tossed me a big bag and hurried me into a car. “Either you die, or spend your life in jail…You’ll probably die though…” She told me as she hurried me. I wasn’t too trilled about following her around, but I didn’t want to get caught by the police…

We were silent for a long time and she made no move to talk to me. “Bitch…” I said as I watched the city lights disappear behind me. I was attacked before I could properly change and then kidnapped…sort of…I came on my own. “I fucking hate Umbrella.” “Jillian, shut up. If I hadn’t saved your ass you would have been dead or in jail. That guy was going to hang you in a tree and use you for target practice…”
“What you do? Tell him that you’d fuck him if he didn’t kill me?”
“I played with him a bit…”
“Sl-ut!” I made a circle with my right index finger and thumb and then took my left middle finger and stuck it in and out. “Oh, yeah, baby give me some more…Oh…you’re pushing too hard. Ahh!” I stopped, but continued the motions and glared at her. “I know you think you’re real pretty, but you don’t have to—“ She karate chopped the back of my neck and I yelped in pain. “Jesus Christ, woman! I was kidding!”
“…What?”
“Huh?”
“You’re not going to hit me back?”
“Why?”
“…” She looked at me with a puzzled look and took off her cap, revealing wavy auburn hair. Then she suddenly laughed. “You really are different…even when we were in high school you would hit people for no reason. You had problems…and probably still do…” She stopped the car and messed with my wet hair for a moment. She had been my best friend at RHS and never left me. I was the one who left her and I felt sad seeing her after all the years. “…but…you’re different now. I mean you’re hot with the guys and are now a lot nicer…Believe me! Alicia Gaviole knows!”
Alicia playfully punched my shoulder and I turned away. “Do I have to kill people?” She forcefully turned my head so I could face her. I knew that she was surprise about my question and it was showing in her eyes. “…I have a boyfriend and I have a niece and nephews! Hey! Maybe I can even get my own kid! That’s all I want…I don’t want to work for—“ She pulled me into a tight hug and then sighed.
“Jillian, sweetie…” Alicia paused then continued, “You don’t have that time.” I wanted to pull away from her and cover my ears, but she kept me in a tight hug. I didn’t want to hear the rest. “Your time belongs to Umbrella…and we both know this…you can’t run…” She whispered the last part and I heard the window behind me break. Something was put over my head and I swiped Alicia’s knife. The door behind me opened and I was being pulled out.
“I’m going to fucking kill you, Alicia!” I yelled through whatever was covering my head. She only seemed to laugh at me, but I stabbed her knife into her thigh, I think. I could hear her fall on the ground and call for help. Man, luck was on my side…kind of. I don’t know if I was shoved into another car or the same one, but I didn’t care. I wanted out and I made sure that they knew it. I was blindly kicking and punching whatever touched me, and even when we were in the car I was still kicking and punching.
“Shut her up!” Alicia screamed, obviously annoyed and angry. Those were the last words I heard before complete darkness took me. Everything around me went silent and cold. I couldn’t hear anymore, but I could still feel the car moving. It was a strange feeling and I didn’t like it. Good thing it didn’t last for long.
I woke up in darkness, but I knew that my eyes were wide open. It was cold, but someone had put clothes on me. Who? I didn’t know, but I was slightly warmer than I was earlier. My head was aching and I didn’t really know where I was, but I knew that I was sitting on something sticky. I immediately got up with a strong look of fear on my face and looked down at the ground horrified. “Blood…”
I was so afraid…
“You use to be constantly surrounded by this stuff…and now you’re freaking out…You were the killer, but you don’t seem like it…” Out from the shadows, Alicia limped toward me. I bit my lip, and didn’t respond. I was too busy staring at the dead body chained to a gray, cemented wall. I couldn’t believe my eyes. “What’s the matter, Jillian? You used to be the killer… the violent one…and you fought everyone…and at the sight of a dead body…you start sweating and get that pathetic look on your face.”
I was unarmed, and I was backing up into the wall behind me. I could feel the wet substance with my bare feet as I walked, and felt some of it start to crust. “Oh my god…” Alicia continued to laugh at me, and I knew that she had no idea about what I had been through. I hit the wall and started to slide down to curl up into a ball.
I was afraid…
I didn’t realize until that moment that I really was afraid of what had happened. I never really admitted to myself that I was, and just avoided it, but when I was in that room, I realized it when I was in tears.
“…I like this. Finally, you’re the person getting hurt and is in tears…Remember, Jill?” She asked me and I looked up, trying to avoid staring at the body. “You don’t know how many people died and got hurt…You stupid little bitch…” She limped toward me and grabbed my hair. “You won’t die! No, you will fucking suffer for every person you killed and hurt…” As she said those words, she pulled on my hair.
Alicia stared down at me with her furious green eyes, and pulled me up from the ground. She then pulled me close and got out the knife that I had stabbed her with. “See this? I’m going to cut you all up…” She took the blade and slowly pushed the tip against my cheek. The woman pulled it across, and then eerily licked the blood coming from the cut on my cheek.
I pushed away with widened eyes, and immediately set myself up to fight back. “What the hell?” The person I had known in high school was no more, and what replaced her was a crazy woman. I couldn’t look at the rotting corpse, but I knew where I was now and knew that it wasn’t good. I needed to get a hold of myself… It was one of Umbrella’s torturing rooms. Umbrella really didn’t approve of it, but some of us still used these rooms…
For some reason, I wasn’t so worried about the dead body and my fear of it getting back up. “C’mon…” I said, and then took a deep breath to calm myself. “I’m not letting you get away with what happened this night…”

“You’re so cute…even if you’re angry…” She giggled and took a step toward me. “I really have the urge to hug you right now…but since you won’t let me…I’ll probably cradle you when you’re dead. It won’t be the same…but you know.” Alicia grinned at me and took another step to me, making me step back. She was really beginning to scare me and I started to wonder if Umbrella might have turned her crazy, but that probably wasn’t the case.
“…Jesus Christ…what happened?” I asked her, but I never did get a reply, for she charged forward. Nearly avoiding her knife attack, I kicked my left leg in front of her path, and then took my hand to push her back. Alicia tripped over my leg and fell quickly toward the wall and ground. Her face hit the cement wall and grinded down until her head was a few inches from the floor. I thought she was dead, but that bitch was far from it. I don’t know who would survive getting their face grinded against a wall, but this woman did.
I walked over to her and started to look for a key card or something to get me out. I must have tapped the pocket with the way out, because when I did, her hand shot up and grabbed my wrist. In a quick second, my back was to the floor and she was on top of me. “That was mean of you…but I still think you’re cute.” She pinned my arms to the ground and grinned at me. Man, was she an eyesore. Her right cheek and most of her forehead was bleeding, with pieces of skin hanging for their dear lives. She would have looked like a zombie to me if her opened eye wasn’t so alive and filled with madness.
Blood was dripping onto my face as I struggled to break free. “You’re hurting me! Let go!” Saying that only made her push harder on my arms and her grin became crazier. I was desperately trying to get up and away, but I couldn’t break free. Alicia moved up and sat on my stomach and at this point, I seriously started to kick and scream. “Get off! Get off!” She lowered herself so the rest of her body touched mine and then she smiled.
“You’re so warm…”
I lifted my head from off the ground and then, with a bit of effort, I bit her ear. “Geff tha fux off o’ meh!” I said with part of her ear still in my mouth. She let go of my arms and her hands went for my neck. Alicia was screaming in pain, but I still kept her stupid ear between my teeth. I was biting her ear so hard that I could taste blood. I couldn’t stand the taste of her blood in my mouth so I let go of her ear. The moment I did so, her hands began to squeeze my neck, in an attempt to choke me.
My own hands reached up and I started to strangle her. After a few seconds of trying to choke each other, we started rolling around on the blood covered floors. This went on for a while, until I decided to stop it. This time I ended up on top of the bloody bitch and let go of my hold. Instead of trying to pry her hands off of me, I took my fists and let out a fury of punches on her face. Her hands released me from their hold and were now working on blocking my punches.
At this time, she was a bloody mess. Back in high school, I had never thought of touching her. She was like a big sister to me, and I had never thought of beating her, even if she did piss me off. But at that moment in time, I forgot about everything, and completely gave everything I had to kill her.
She grabbed one of my fists and looked up at me with one slightly opened, swollen eye. “You’re…a…little bitch.” She said weakly with a grim smile. I stopped for a moment and for a second, thought about what I was doing. When Alicia laughed, I soon noticed what she had done. I could feel something inside of me. It had ripped through my flesh and cut me. The pain in my side was growing.
She pulled the knife out and stabbed me again and again. My body grew stiff and I couldn’t move. All I could feel was pain. “…” I could feel the warm liquid as it touched my skin and exited my wounds. Alicia was laughing at me and my expression of complete horror. When was the last time I got hurt so bad? She stabbed me once more, but in the stomach and I fell to my side.
“Whoops…my knife slipped!” She said before starting to laugh again.
With her bloodied knife, she crawled over to me, and raised her hand to get ready to deliver the final stab. My blood on her knife was a perfect crimson red in color, and I stared at it dumbly. Her knife came down, and without thinking I put my hand up in defense. The knife sliced the space in between my index finger and my middle finger, and I closed my hand on it. Alicia tried to pull back her knife, but I slowly got up. “It…slipped again.” I said. After hitting her hand real hard and pulling back her knife, I took it from her and grinned at her.
“…You’re going to kill me…” She said quietly, and before she could act the knife was in the air and heading toward her head… Alicia slowly fell to her knees and then fell on her side. It hurt me to see her like that, but I felt as if I had no choice. "You had it...coming...bitch..."
I wanted to live.
With haste, I looked through her many pouches and finally found what I needed. I rushed to the door and slid the keycard. “…shit…” My eye sight was already starting to blur. I stumbled out of the door, and exited out of the building. I don’t know how long I ran, or which direction I ran in, but I found a telephone booth and dialed the only number that I had bothered to memorize.
“Jack…I need your help…”

“Why don’t you call your boyfriend?”
“Just pick me up… at the Madison Street bus stop… Hurry…” The phone cut off my call, and I didn’t bother putting it back onto the hook. I exited the phone booth and slowly made my way to the bus stop sign. With each step I took, the sign got farther away from my reach, and tears started to fill my eyes. “I can’t see…” I said before collapsing. My legs just couldn’t hold me up and I fell forward. I strained my neck to look up at the bus stop, and I reached for it. “I’m so…close…” I closed my eyes after realizing that I could only see blobs of color, and sat there.
“Jack, over there!” A loud woman shouted and I opened my eyes. Two human-like blobs approached me quickly and looked down at me. They’re faces were distorted and they were wearing very bright colors. “Oh my god… Jillian! Jack, she’s going to bleed to death! We need to get her out of here!”
“Ayami…that you?” I asked, blinking my eyes in an attempt to see who the blob was. “I’m real…sorry…that I walked out…on you…” I felt strong arms lift me up and I knew I was being brought into a car. “…I didn’t mean to…I’m just so…“
I heard the two voices argue about something and then I was told to shut up. Soon the car was moving, and after that, I don’t remember what happened, but I’m guessing that I lost too much blood and was way too tired. I woke up in a hospital, and stared at the ceiling for a good thirty minutes or so before I actually moved. I attempted to get up, but my side and my stomach ached when I tried, so I just kept there in the bed. At first, it was hard to breath, but I got use to it.
“What happened?” I asked myself, and then touched the white strip on my face. My eyes narrowed as I remembered what had happened a few nights ago. I touched my stomach and my side. “…” I had a few bruises here and there as well, but those weren’t worth worrying about. “I killed my ex-best friend’s boyfriend and her…Of all the people…it has to be me…” I moaned. “Another fucking hospital…” Just as I said this, a nurse walked in and smiled.
“Ah…you’re awake…Looks like you don’t like hospitals.” I nodded my head and then saw the package in her hands. “This is for you, Miss Jillian Masters, right?” I took the package and smiled at her, giving her my thanks. I slowly undid the tape and carefully took off the brown paper. I sat up and grunted in pain. On my lap sat a box and I didn’t know who it was from. I carefully opened the box and my eyes widened and my mouth opened, but no sound came out. I closed my mouth and with my wrapped right hand, I picked up the new handgun and pointed it at the door. I pulled the trigger and liked the feel of it. “A new toy…” I was a sucker for guns. I placed the weapon down on my lap and picked up the note that had been under it.
“ ‘Jillian, I hope you get better soon… This wouldn’t have happened if you had rejoined Umbrella...” I had nearly crushed the note, but I read on. I nodded my head and placed the note under my pillow. I turned to look at the window and smiled. I hope she was right.
“Where’s her room?”
“Ayami…you’re so damn blind.”
“Shut up! I’m not…”
“You are…how can you Asians see with those eyes…?” I heard Jack’s laugh and then heard him in pain. When I heard this, I quickly put the stuff under my pillow and waited for them to enter my room. “Why do you kick so hard?”
“Because I can…Hey! You’re awake!” Ayami ran over to me and gave me a tight hug. She was smiling, but I turned my attention over to poor Jack. I looked over Ayami’s shoulder and giggled. The poor guy walked into my room, trying to hide the fact that he just got kicked in the balls. “You feeling ok?”
“Yeah…” I said, staring at Jack. He turned away from my gaze and crossed his arms. At first, I didn’t understand it, but I really didn’t care. “Jack…thanks… I would have died if you guys haven’t came and got me…I owe you my life…But since you saved my ass for the hundred time…I think I owe you more than that.”
“What the hell did you do?! You’re an ex-Umbrella person! You shouldn’t have been hurt so badly…to the point of almost dying…Jillian, you’re so stupid!” Even in high school, he yelled at me. I remember that I would used to pick fights with people who made fun of him while we dated. I did stupid things and while we were dating, I did it for him. I really did think he was the one for me back then, but I was just little kid...
“I know…I think I should start training again and get back into the job. I’m thinking of joining Umbrella again...and I’m sorry I worried you, Jack…” I sighed and looked back at the window. “You’re so damn troublesome, Jack… You come all this way so you can yell at me…Damn boy.” While I said this, Ayami walked over to the window and looked through it. I watched her and saw that she had seemed something. “…Hmm…When we get out of here…can you two take me to a shooting range?”

You're working for Umbrella...again -
Jack and Ayami drove me to a shooting range and I met with a man from Umbrella. He did most of the talking, and to most of it I really didn’t listen. This guy really pissed me off, and I hated him. It was his fault that I got involved in Umbrella, and I was guess that he helped make the T-virus somehow. It was also his fault for my mom dying, for our suffering long ago, and for everything. I thought that was the case, but now I know it wasn’t really his fault.
“Where’d you come from?” He asked me and I laughed, using up the remaining bullets in my gun. I reloaded it and looked at him, waiting for him to repeat his question. I really didn’t hear him the first time, but I could guess. I took off the protective gear and carefully rested my new handgun on the table. “Where’d you come from?”
“You see…when a mommy and a daddy love each other very much…”
“Cut the bullshit.”
“Hmph…It’s just a joke…”
“I see you’ve got a new gun…who gave it to you?”
“The same person who sent your ass down here…” Jack took a glance at me and Ayami waved. I waved back. Earlier I had told them that I was meeting with an old teacher from my high school days in California, and they believed it and stayed away from me and the man who stood right next to me. “Obviously I came here for a reason…”
“Same here…My order was to give you this if you came and…”
“I’m supposed to accept it, or else…right?”
“Good job…Now we know that there isn’t just air in your head…”
“Bite my ass.”
“It was just a joke…Why don’t we make your lie seem real...” He leaned over to hug me and he placed a piece of paper in my back pocket. When he touched me there, I nearly jumped, but didn’t and hugged him back. “Nice seeing you again…Jillian…I love you.”
“I hate you.” I muttered releasing him from his hug.
“I saved your life in Raccoon…”
“Thanks to you I fell out of a helicopter.” I crossed my arms and took a glance at my handgun. “…Everyone…I got close to died back then…because.of.you!”
“Thanks to me you’re standing here right now and they could have escape, but they took the stupid choice of staying back. The same choice you were going to take!”
“Go burn in hell, bastard.” My hand came so close to slapping him, but he had grabbed my wrist in time. “You sent that bitch, Alicia, and she was going to violate me after I died…Fat fucking chance, though.”
“I told her to persuade you and when that didn’t work…she was to bring you to me. I guess she went too far…” I glared at him and then laughed at the last sentence that came out of his mouth. I repeated the last sentence a few times in my head and turned around to stop myself from laughing.
“Hahaha…” I coughed and looked up at him. “I guess she went too far?” I asked and he nodded. “I guess she went too far?” I shook my head and bit my lip. “Why did she have to send you…and why the hell did you survive? You were supposed to die as a human, rise as a zombie, and burn in an explosion.”
“You’re still the same person I raised…I don’t know why you hate me so much…”
“You didn’t come to mom’s funeral like you promised…not to one sports game I played…not to my graduation. You didn’t act like a father, so why should I treat you like one? Why should anyone treat you in a way? Thanks for the note, but I never want to see your face again. Hope you don’t die.” I packed up my stuff and walked away from him.
My father never did try to contact me after, but I knew he was watching over me and was real sorry. Jay and Cherlyn have tried many times and even tried to trick me into meeting him. I never did and the last time I saw him was at his funeral. When he was buried, I actually cry and I realized something.
When a person is gone, you might realize that you love them and you want them back.

Umbrella's Clean-up Crew -
I grew attached to the team I usually took missions with. Rick, the team leader guy, chose the same people all the time and we became a strong team. He knew I didn’t like to kill people and often told me to stay behind, but I wasn’t like that. I couldn’t let them down. Although I disapproved of the needless killings, or I thought they were, I still helped them because they’re good people.
“I win!” Rick shouted and Alissa groaned. Daren sat on the couch and flipped through the channels, while I cooked some macaroni and cheese. It was one of our day offs and we really had nothing to do, so I invited them to my apartment. I didn’t have to worry about anyone walking in on Alissa’s and Rick’s strip poker game, because everyone was pretty much out of town.
--Jack met with his girlfriend, Ayami was visiting an old friend, Sola was no where around, my sister and brother were skiing somewhere, and Steven was visiting his parents--
“I’m not taking off my bra!” Alissa shouted, standing up from Rick’s lap. Rick was a well-built man with dirty blond hair and brown eyes. He always had his hair in a messed up fashion and really left a five o’ clock shadow on his face. Alissa was his girlfriend. Rick describes her as a woman with real curves and a nice tan. She has brown eyes and straight brown hair that go up to her shoulders. They’re a couple to look at.
Rick whistled and then took off his shirt. Alissa smiled started to give him a show and lap danced. “Hey… Hey! Get a room!” I yelled and Daren chuckled. Daren was the quiet one of the group and had long black hair that he ties up into a pony tail. He’s also a bit pale and has dark brown eyes. Rick and Alissa think he’s a vampire, but he just chuckles and then just stares.
Rick laughed and soon Alissa stopped. They picked up their clothes and put them back on. “Up for another game! You two want to play?” I shook my head, and filled my spoon with mac and cheese. Daren didn’t answer, but continued to flip through the channels. “Aw. You two are no fun…C’mon…”
“Whenever we do play, you guys end up having sex on my table…” I rolled my eyes and continued to eat. If those two could fuck each other during a mission then they would. I swear that those two are the horniest people around, but they’re still pretty nice.
“No we don’t…”
“You two groan and moan when we play this game…it’s disturbing…” Daren said and then turned to me. “It is your birthday…Would you like to open your gifts?” I scratched my head and laughed. Today was my birthday and I had almost forgotten.
“Daren actually said something!” Alissa shouted and clapped. When I saw Daren blush, I laughed at him and then finished my bowl of macaroni and cheese.
The three of them brought out the presents and I picked up Alissa’s present. My eye began to twitch at the sight of my present’s shape and I laughed. It wasn’t one of my nice laughs either. It was one of the annoyed ones. I knocked on the present and looked at Alissa with a terrible smile. “What? Why?” She asked me, grinning. I didn’t even have to open her present to figure out what the hell it was.
“I don’t need a dildo, dumb fuck.” I replied, throwing her the wrapped vibrator. She caught it and giggled and I rolled my eyes. Alissa was just a joker and sometimes she went way too far. And I swear to god, Rick was made for her. Those two assholes are two of the same thing.
“You don’t want it? I got you batteries for it too! Damn, there goes my present.” Rick grinned at me and I stuck my tongue out. Because I was the youngest in the group, I was picked on the most as usual. Daren was the only one who didn’t pick on me though. He backed me up most of the time.
“I didn’t get you anything like that.” Daren said and then yawned. It was just like him to act bored, but I could clearly tell that he wanted me to open his present. I shoved Rick’s present back to him and smiled. He looked back at me with the same grin Alissa had on. These guys would probably kill me one day…
I took a seat on the couch by Daren and he handed me a wrapped box. “…A McDonald’s gift card? You shouldn’t have…” He wrapped the present in red gift wrap with the special, yellow M. He shook his head and I ripped off the paper, seeing a cell phone box. I was confused and it took me a while to realize that a new cell phone was not my present…
“…This is really getting old…” I muttered and I opened the box, only to reveal another box. I went through three more boxes before hitting the jackpot. I picked up the gift and looked at it. I did not believe my eyes. “Daren…you got me…You seriously shouldn’t have…You spent so much.” It was a necklace that I have been wanting for Christmas. I had only mentioned it once to him and then said no more. Although I normally don’t wear necklaces, I was still a girl…
“This is totally a moment!” Alissa walked over and I pointed a finger at her.
“If you give me another present like that again…I will kill you.” And those were the last words I had said to her.

“What?!” I shouted at Rick. It was a day after my birthday and Umbrella had given us orders to kill a group of people. Like everybody else we were sent to kill, they knew too much and were going to leak it out of the world, so we had to kill them, but the only problem was that they were being protected by Umbrella-trained guards…Not just one guard, but many...and this group of guards were different from others...
“I know you need the fucking money, but do you want it that bad?!” I yelled some more and grab hold of his shoulders to shake them. He looked away from me as I shook him. “You’ll kill all these people for the money?! Some of the guards are just kids! You’re going to take away their lives for money?!”
Daren and Alissa sat there silently. When ever I was like this, they became quiet and acted as if they weren’t listening. The two knew that I couldn’t be stopped and the last time they tried, I fought back.
“You don’t understand.” Rick told me.
“Some of them are just kids. Umbrellla wants everyone dead…even them.” I said, trying to calm myself down. “They’re around high school age... and I know that everything is stripped from them. Their time, their life, and everything…Once you get into Umbrella…you’re marked as property and belong to them…”
“You act as if you know…” Alissa said.
“I do know…but you guys wouldn’t. Daren came from the military, Rick was a criminal, and you were a police officer…” They looked at me confused and I told them that I did check their backgrounds. I also guess that they didn’t check mine, seeing that they didn’t know why I was talking so much about the kids. I took in a deep breath and then exhaled. Rick was about to say something, but when I glanced at him, he closed his mouth. “I joined Umbrella in my senior year. They kept me so busy… that I couldn’t go home and see my family. There. You happy now?” I said, knowing that they wanted some kind of explanation. “I’m not going to be there tonight…so I don’t need to know anymore information...I'm not interested in killing kids.”
I walked out of Rick’s house and went to my car. “Jillian wait!”
“What Daren?” I shouted and I turned around to feel his warm lips on my own. As his tongue forced itself into my mouth, he pushed me against my car. I closed my eyes and kissed him back. I couldn’t help it. He was such a good kisser. His hands drifted down from my sides and then to my waist before he pulled me closer. My hands were at my sides at first but now I was holding him…Daren…
I opened my eyes and turned my view to the skies. It was snowing. I slowly pulled away from him and wiped my mouth with my sleeve. He turned away from me and I did as well. From the looks of it we were both blushing. Daren put his hands on his head and looked up at the sky. “Um…” I said, not bothering to look at him. “You only have a shirt on…You’ll get cold…”
He smiled and nodded his head. “Yeah…”
“Oh right…Ha ha…” I laughed and took his coat out of my car. I had forgotten that we had carpooled. He gladly took back his coat and put it on. We sat there for a while looking away from each other. He knew that I had a boyfriend and I knew that he knew that. We both knew that we would get in trouble if what we did together got out. “I won’t tell if you don’t tell…” I finally said.
He patted me on my head before saying, “Promise…Be good now…”
“I will, Daren…Don’t get hurt!” He nodded and then chuckled. When I drove away, I could see him in my rear view mirror until I drove too far.

When I got home, I took a shower. In my room, I had already set up everything I would need for the mission before I went to Rick’s house. I didn’t think that I would need it, but I was too lazy to clean it all up. I got out of the shower and was about to changed into some sweats when I noticed the time. If I was going on that mission, I would have start dressing up.
“No…”
I found myself thinking more and more about the mission as the clock ticked away. I wanted to go and make sure that they were safe. Then a question came up. Was I letting them down? I shook my head and tried to get it out. I didn’t like to let people down, and I didn’t like knowing that my friends could get hurt or die even.
“Are you already there?” I asked through my phone.
I heard something break in the background and then Rick cursing. Apparently Alissa had broken something before getting to the phone. “Jillian! Why are you coming? ‘Cause we’re still setting up and we have your stuff set up too.”
“You guys will get yourselves killed…I need to help you.”
“Jillian, we can handle this ourselves…”
“I’m sure you can, but I want to make sure none of you die…” And then I hung up to suit up. I changed and in no time at all, they came knocking on my door. I holstered my handguns and put everything into their proper pouches. As soon as I was ready, we left for the abandon warehouse the targets were using.
Alissa was going to snipe some of the guards and I was going to head through the back. While we took the back, the boys would take the front.
I walked over to the back door and took a peek in. “Jillian, two guards are coming in…” Alissa whispered and I saw her shoot out a light. The guards looked to see what happened to the light and I quickly climbed up onto the overhang over the door. I got up easily and pushed myself against the shadows.
“It’s nothing…I bet a bird did it.”
“Birds don’t fly at night!”
“Yes they do!”
“No, it was probably a bat!”
“You’re joking!”
I waited until they stopped in front of the door before I jumped down on top of one of the guards. I unsheathed my knife and made and clean cut on the other guard’s face before taking his head with my hands and twisting it hard to break his neck. I looked down at the man under my feet and shook my head. He was about 15 years old. “I’m sorry…but I guess that it’s better to die…than to live the life you will live.” I slit the poor boy’s throat and he bled to death while staring at me with tears.
“One to the right…I got the other to the left.” I looked to the left and saw a man fall into a pool of his blood. She really did get him... I hurried to some boxes and hid behind one, waiting for the guard. When he passed me I took my silenced gun and crept up behind him. Before he could I act, I shot him through the kneecaps and covered his mouth. I didn’t like killing people, but when I had to, I did.
He was yelling and trying to bite my hand. I stood there and waited for the man to shut up and when he did, I walked back to the door. “Alissa, you have the back…I’ve stalled enough…” I entered the warehouse and noticed how dark it was. I tried not to make any noise as I walked on the metal floors, but I could still hear the tap of my boots on it.
Looking around, I saw a few lights here and there, and guessed the guards had lights on their guns. I heard foot steps behind me and looked around for a place to hide, but I didn't see any place to duck behind. “Shit…” I muttered before looking up at the ceiling and coming up with a great idea.
I hopped up and grabbed a sturdy pipe. I lifted up my legs and tried my best to lift up my body. Behind my mask, I smiled and turned my head to take a glance down. If they looked up they wouldn’t be able to see much, because tonight we had chose to wear dark colors without the Umbrella symbol.
The man stopped under me and shined his flash light around, before going back the way he went. He seriously didn't see me and I was glad. I hadn't noticed it earlier, but this place did have a lot of places to hide and all I had to do was grab a pipe. It seemed easy, but it was going to be hard to kill all of the people here. Normally, I would have shot the poor guards dead, but I didn't have too much ammo. Tonight I brought a silenced gun, a regular handgun, and of course knives...I seriously didn't feel that a shotgun would help me much tonight...It's hard killing a lot of people in silence...

“Uh…” I let go of the pipe and landed as quietly as I could, but the little thump I made was loud enough to alert the guard. He turned around and opened his mouth to scream but I sprang up and covered it. “Shh…shh…Don’t make a sound…or else I’m putting a bullet in your ass.” I threatened and the man quieted down. Just when he got quiet, I heard the sound of gunshots and my eyes widened. I knew that it couldn’t have been Alissa so I turned my head to the entrance of the warehouse.
“No! Rick!” I heard Alissa’s scream in my earpiece, but I saw that the two men were still shooting. “Rick’s been shot! He might die!” She shouted, but I didn’t say anything. Guards were already leaving their posts to assist in the front and I nodded. This was exactly what I needed.
“Jillian…We have it covered… Go! It’s an order bitch!” I rolled my eyes and then pulled the trigger. I slowly let the guard down and took his shotgun with a smile. I brought a shotgun to almost every mission but this mission was one of those kinds of missions where you didn’t need a shotgun.
I searched the guard’s dead body and pocketed some ammo. After I was done searching and found a keycard, I descended down some stairs with the shotgun in my hands. The warehouse was filled with noise and most of the guards were trying to deal with the front, so I didn’t have to sneak around anymore. I was happy. I never was a quiet person and I definitely hated the silence. If you’ve been through what I’ve been through, you’ll probably know that the silence isn’t necessarily a good thing.
I reached a door and swiped the key card. When I slowly opened the door, a voice asked me, “What is happening outside? Report?” The door wasn’t opened all the way, so they couldn’t see me.
“Ah…There is trouble…”
“What?” The voice asked and I heard the owner of the voice get up from his seat. He didn’t seem to realize that I wasn’t one of his goons.
“Yes…We will bring you all to a safer location…”
“Please do…Umbrella is after us…” I don’t know what came over me, but at the moment when he said this, I smashed the card reader and pushed open the door. I stepped into the room and the door closed behind me. I heard a click as the door locked itself and pointed the shotgun at them. Surprisingly, there were no guards in the room.
“You’re being targeted by Umbrella? You are correct… Now give me all the weapons you have on you…or else.” The targets began to line up and at my feet, their ammo and guns piled up. I even got a few knives in the pile. When they all returned to their seats, I heard an explosion and then the painful yells of Alissa. I pulled off my ear piece and threw it to the ground. In the silence, I bit my lip and then heard Rick shout.
“Alissa! Alissa! What happened? What happened?” We heard nothing from her and I closed my eyes. What I heard had killed her. “Alissa! Respond! Goddamnit! What the hell are you doing?!”
“Rick. Shut it…We don’t have the time!” I shouted, picking up the ear piece. “We need to finish this goddamned thing…so fucking shut it!” After I yelled at him, he fell silent, but I could still hear him shooting.
I turned to targets and tapped the shotgun. “What should I do with you guys? You’ve just gone and killed one of my friends…and I can’t say that I’m too happy with what you have done.” I pointed the shotgun at one of the targets and pulled the trigger. “One out of seven. I have six more to go and I promise you that you won’t be as lucky…”

“Why won’t you tell me what I want?” I turned on the blow torch and held its flame on his finger to seal the wound. I had just cut off his middle finger. “I told you I wouldn’t let you bleed much.” He was taped to a chair and there was no way he could move.
“Agh! Shit! It hurts! What the hell do you want from me!?” I took a seat on his lap and then sighed before cutting off another finger. “FUCK!” He yelled and as I sealed the wound he continued to scream.
“Ready?”
“I won’t tell you!”
“I can repeat the process…or even better yet…make sure that you bleed from the very part you use to have sex. Will you talk now, Mr. James…” I tapped his Umbrella ID card that was clipped onto his coat and shook my head. “Mr. James, a person can die in many ways and I know you know what I mean…Since you’re the last guy and I really don’t have much time to lose, I can do whatever I want.”
“Alright! Alright! I’ll tell you!”
“Good boy.” He told me everything he knew and when he finished, I realized that Umbrella was slowly crumbling. Even though I knew it, I still killed the man.
“Jillian…the front is cleared.” Daren reported.
“Targets eliminated. I’ve left quite a mess.”
“What did you do?” Rick asked.
“Nothing. Well, if I told you…you wouldn’t feel very comfortable…”
“What did you do?” He repeated the question and I sighed.
“I hung a man and he died choking and bleeding through his penis. Another guy… I carved his eyes out. I shot a guy through his heart. Made one guy commit suicide by swallowing a knife. Killed a guy with shotgun to the head. I then took a chair and smashed one guy, and then this other guy got his insides cut up…”
“Are you serious?” Daren asked.
“Yes…for some of it.” I replied and head for the door, but turned around and looked at the window. “Did you guys set up the bombs? I’ll get the car.”
“But- -”
“I know…” I paused and then shook my head. “You don’t trust me with the wheel because I drive too fast.” Rick and Alissa were two horny people, but they were two people who loved each other the most. I don’t know what was going through his mind, but I knew that it wasn’t entirely good. I knew it because he was going to use the money from this mission to get Alissa an engagement ring. “You two can crash at my house…c’mon hurry up and get to the car.”
Because I was lazy, I took a chair and threw it out the window. Then I climbed out. “Just like Raccoon City…” I muttered, taking a glance at the room behind me. After checking the time, I began at a jog and then picked up my pace to a sprint toward our car. When I got there, I found the two men waiting inside patiently. Daren had a smoke in his mouth and Rick looked like a dead man.
“Let’s go…” Daren waved me over and I took the driver’s seat. I adjusted the rear view mirror to look at Rick in the back and sighed. He wasn’t taking any of this well and it hurt me. I didn't like seeing him so quiet and sad. It just wasn't like him. “Let’s go…now.” I started the car and Daren called for the clean up.
"They're slowly figuring it out...Maybe we'll go jobless again."

Unlike Rick and Daren, I actually took Alissa’s death ‘easier’ and got some sleep. Some sleep. I would have gotten a lot of sleep in Rick didn’t wake me every time he took a piss or told me that I was out of beer. If I had the energy to yell at him, I would have, but I didn’t and just went back to sleep. Pretty much everything seemed to be going pretty good and my worries about Rick weren’t going to happen, but when I woke up the next day, I cried.
“Daren!” I shouted his name and shook him by his shoulders as tears rolled down my cheeks. “Rick! That stupid fucker! He’s going to kill himself.” Daren got up and took the crumpled piece of paper from my hand to read it. He then cursed and picked up his shirt. “We don’t have time to change! He’s going to kill himself right now! We need to go to the warehouse!”
We ran out of my apartment with the clothes that we slept in on. Daren was shirtless and wearing his pants and combat boots from the night before. And I was in some basketball shorts and a gray wife beater without any shoes on.
“It’s still snowing.”
“I don’t give a damn…We need to stop him!” I stepped out into the snow and immediately felt a shiver run through my body, but ignored it and ran to the car. Daren and I were as cold as hell, but we didn’t care too much. He took the driver’s seat and I seriously jumped through the open window and into the passenger’s seat. We rolled up our windows and Daren got the car started.
“It won’t work…It’s too cold.”
“Keep on trying!”
He did and finally the car agreed to work. Throughout the whole ride we were silent, and I sat there crying quietly. Because of Daren’s driving, we got there quickly and to my surprise on time.
“Rick!” I shouted. Rick had Alissa’s gun to his head and was still dressed in his uniform. “Don’t do it! Please don’t!” This guy didn’t force me to do things I didn’t want to. Rick didn’t act like a guy from Umbrella. He acted like a friend and now he was going to all throw away his life.
Rick turned to me and smiled. “Alissa’s dead! Umbrella killed her!” He yelled and then laughed. “Zombies and bullshit like that! She’s just as dead as they are… Ahahaha! Put the blame on Umbrella! Ahahaha…” Rick continued to laugh, but his laughter turned into sadness and into tears.
He worked for Umbrella because he needed the money to help his little sisters. He had six little sisters and they were all in foster homes, but that wouldn’t stop him from giving them money on holidays. It wouldn’t stop him from being a big brother and from loving them. That was the reason he joined Umbrella and when he fell in love, he worked for Alissa. But from what he’s told me, his little sisters no longer remember him, and now Alissa’s gone. He told me that Umbrella offered him the job because they knew he needed it. Those damn assholes…
“You don’t need to do this, Rick. Stop it.” I pleaded. He didn’t listen to me though. Rick didn’t hear me over the sound of a gunshot in his ear. When the snow on the ground was painted crimson red and his body hit the ground softly, I ran toward him. My eyes widened and I yelled out his name.
I had his head in my arms and I was cradling him. “Rick…you motherfucker…” I whispered in between sobs. Everything around me was cold and the snow added to it. I couldn’t believe it. Both of my friends had died in less than seven hours. I didn’t want to believe it. “Hey man…” I whispered in his ear. “This has to be one of those pranks…You always joke about committing suicide. This has to be the best joke ever…It looks so real…” But it wasn’t a joke and it was real. Rick had killed himself.
“Jillian, he’s dead.”
“Fuck you, I know that!” I snapped at him. I cried over him and held him close to me. My shirt was getting wet and the world seemed to be getting colder. “Rick…what’s the next mission?” I asked him and I knew that he wasn’t going to answer anything I said. I knew it, but I still sat there holding him close and then it started to snow again. “Damn…I told you not to die…” I wiped my face and Daren helped me up. “Daren…can you take me home? We'll get sick and...”
“Let's go home...”

The Failed Mission -
"Steve's coming tomorrow."
"You doing one more thing before he comes back?" Daren asked and I waved the folder in my hand. He snatched the folder and read through it. "Nine AM....Your target goes to the park at nine AM. Are you going to kill him?" I pushed him away and grabbed my coat before heading toward the door. "Jillian, I thought you said that you were done with--" I stopped and turned to him. Then I opened my mouth to speak.
"He's an only parent." I simply said. I checked the time on my watch and walked out of the door in a hurry. Today was a Sunday and everyone seemed to be inside, so I didn't need to worry about getting caught up with anything. All I had to worry about was getting to the park on time and walking two blocks to the park didn't take so long.
When I arrived, I found the target and took a seat by him. The man watched his daughter go up to the ice cream man for ice cream. He was smiling and I turned away, knowing that this would probably be the last time he would be able to do this. "Hey..." He turned to me and I looked back at him. "You told her that you loved her before she went over there right?" The man only smiled at me and I cocked my eyebrow. "Why are you smiling?" He chuckled and at that I understood. I stood up, but he grabbed my hand and stopped me from walking away.
"She's ten. Her name is Nessa Korrien. Nessa doesn't have--"
"I'm sorry, but I have to leave." I pulled my hand away and he just continued to smile. He knew that he was going to die, but at the time I just couldn't understand why he wore such a bright smile.
It didn't take long for the killer to come and the person came right on time. I heard a small click from a silenced gun and I knew that the target had died at exactly nine AM. "Daddy! I have the ice cream!" Nessa shouted so happily. I stopped walking and I froze. "Hey, daddy! Why are you sleeping?" I took a glance back and saw that the target was slouched forward. Tears were forming in his eyes, but he still smiled and whispered three words with his last breath. "Daddy? C'mon. I have your ice cream. We're going to eat them together, right?" Before I knew it, I was completely turned around and watching from a distance. The killer passed me and smirked.
"I got him before you did. You were too slow. Too bad."
The killer said it so low that I almost didn't hear it, but I had no intention of killing the target in the first place. I continued to watch and Nessa began to shake her father. The target slipped down and fell onto the park bench. "DADDY!" She screamed and dropped the ice cream. I knew that little Nessa had seen the blood on the back of his neck. "Daddy! Daddy! Wake up! We were suppose to have fun today! Daddy! I love you! Don't go!" I looked down at the melted ice cream she dropped, and saw that the blood was mixing with it.
"Umbrella..." I walked over to the little girl and looked down at her. "Is everything alright?" She looked up at me and shook her head. Then she pointed at her father and I bit my lip. "I have a cell phone...I'll call 911 for you!" I did and the police came. For the whole time she held onto me and for the longest time, she cried.
I don't know how it happened, but I ended up with Nessa. The police told me that she had no friends, no other relatives, and no place to go. They were probably going to put her in an orphanage or something, but out of some reason out of luck, they made me take her. I really didn't understand why they gave her to me, but she didn't mind and I didn't really care either. I was hoping to take this chance to fix a few things.
"I-I'm Nessa K-korrein." She said as we walked back from the police department. "Y-you tried t-to save...m-my d-daddy?" We stopped and I pulled the little girl into an embrace quickly.
"I'm so sorry. I'm very sorry for everything..." I said into her ear. "I hope you'll forgive me...and I hope that they'll forgive me too." It all began with a mission one night and it ended with my last target's death. After all of that, I finally made my decision and decided that I had enough. I didn't need any more of this. "I'll stop them for you. I promise, Nessa. Please don't cry anymore. I don't want to see you with such a sad face on."
