Of all the People

Before the death:

My life has been a difficult one; filled with struggles that few people have. I used to think this, “Of all the people in the world…this happens to me.” Perhaps it did only happen to me and I am happy because I got through most of my struggles. I thank those who were there to help out. Say, have you ever watched a horror film or read a scary story? Ha, I bet you’ve never been in one. A real story. A real life. A real company. You will never see Hell in your lifetime! I have and it started all in one city, Raccoon City. I can never forget what happened in that city. Never.

“Jillian, Cherlyn, Jay, Go now!” I heard mother shout. “You guys don’t need to help out here…Your father and I can finish up and you three will be late for school.”

“I don’t see the point in moving to this stupid place. It’s a city surrounded by mountains and woods…Whoopee… We could have done that in California, but we had to move here! I don’t get the deal.” I sighed. I didn’t hate the place, but I didn’t like it either. There were no beaches, no ocean smell, and I could forget about scenic walks in this boring place.

“Jillian…We moved here for a reason. Money reasons…that is.” My father replied and I crossed my arms.

“Why?” Cherlyn asked him and everyone else grew quiet. “Why? Do I have to ask once more?”

Jay began to walk away from us and I chased after him. I was a senior in high school and about to turn seventeen. I couldn’t wait until graduation and so couldn’t my big brother and sister. They were annoying and I hated the fact that I was the youngest out of the three. Moving to Raccoon was what started all my problems. If I had stayed with my cousins in California then maybe I wouldn’t have grown to love Raccoon and to take up the job I would later take up. I wish I did because later I would be one of the few who survived a certain incident.

It was the first day of school and some alumni were waiting to welcome the new students and such. I looked to see the faces of Ayami and Jack. I never thought to one day become friends with them and I knew their names at the time because their other alumni friends talked too loud. Most teens talked loudly while out of classrooms. I walked passed the welcoming groups and bumped into Jack.

“Hey, watch it!” He growled, as I dropped my books.

“I-I’m sorry. I d-didn’t mean to…” I stuttered, while scrambling to pick up my fallen books. I quickly got up and walked away from the group but stopped. I heard a comment from Jack, ‘the leader’ of the group. I turned around and pointed my finger at him.

“Excuse me?” I asked him and he chuckled. “I said…Excuse me?”

Those who had known Jack turned to me. He must have been ‘popular’ because it seemed like everyone knew him. Jack chuckled again and looked at me up and down. He saw my face was red with embarrassment.

“You sneezed?” He joked and his friends laughed.

I shook my head and looked to the ground. I began to walk to the entrance of the school and gave out a heavy sigh. The nerves of that kid, I had thought. I hated what he had said about me and I hated his attitude for some reason. I walked to my locker and placed my books in my locker.

“Hey, you…” An alumnus said to me. She was alone and it took me a moment to realize that she was Ayami.

“Me?” I asked confused and she nodded. I walked over to her, not really sure of what the girl wanted.

“Jack said something?”

“Yeah. I think his name is Jack…That---“

Ayami chuckled and interrupted me. “He’s a class flirt. He flirts with almost any girl he sees, but he’s a normal teenage boy…just likes girls. I didn’t see you last year…What’s your name?”

I looked at Ayami and the bell rung. “Sorry. I have to go.” I said, rushing off to my first class.

That was the first time I met the two. I kept on seeing Jack hanging around and I learned to avoid him. Ayami and I became close friends though... My father had joined Umbrella Corp. and even though I disapproved of it he had forced me to work with Umbrella.

Life went ‘normal’ for me for that school year until that one day when special events occurred.

I sighed as I walked through the carnival. The tents were yellow and orange, but they had faded into dull colors. Raccoon High school had a cheap principal who hated to spend money and that was why the tents looked crappy. The school held a festival every year, I soon learned, and it was just another fundraiser. This place seemed boring and little children were everywhere. I sighed and looked up to see a group of my friends. “Hey!”

“Jillian, I thought you weren’t going to come.” One of them said to me and I shrugged. I didn’t want to really come, but friends could annoy you to death if you didn’t. “Hey look…some alumni boys. They are so cute…Don’t you think?”

I looked at them and bluntly said, “No.” I wasn’t really into hotshots, especially one named Jack. “I’m going to meet my brother at one of the booths.” I lied, but they couldn’t tell. They probably weren’t even listening to me. “See you guys at the frog game…with the hammers?” They all nodded and I gave out a sigh of relief. I began to try and avoid Jack, but he always saw me. Of all the places he could have been, he always was at a place where he had a good sight of me. I finally sat down and rested at a table.

I laid my head down and groaned and a girl, who was eating a hotdog, looked at me. “Are you alright?”

“Are you?” I replied back, a bit annoyed.

The girl slightly chuckled and looked at Jack, who was looking around. To me he looked like a lost dog wandering aimlessly and it made me laugh. “Oh, I understand. It’s strange. He hasn’t chased a girl to this extent until now. My friend is one who likes girls a bit too much.”

“A little?!” I screamed out. I had stood up and slammed my hands onto the table, but the girl sat in her seat calmly eating her hot dog.

“You really should calm down.” She sighed and shook her head. “I guess Jack can annoy someone easily.”

I shook my head and laid it down on the table again. I pulled on my hood and just sat there. I could hear him running over to the girl and that just made me even more annoyed. “Hey Sola, did you…by any chance see a girl? I wanted to apologize for what I’ve been saying and…I wanted to get her number.”

I could hear Sola trying to hold back her laugh. The last part of his last sentence ruined it for me and I wanted to just stand up and choke the boy. Sola shook her head and Jack moved on. I slowly pulled off my hood and thanked Sola. I looked at Jack and scratched my head. He seemed a little cute, but… you know.

“I’m Jillian. Your’s?”

“Sola Valance, an Alumnus of RHS, pleasant to meet you.” I looked at her with a puzzled look and she just smiled. “I get that a lot.” She stood up and threw away her food. Sola walked away and said, “Bye.”

I stood up and made my way out of the dump. My sister picked me up and drove me home for a special surprise. The surprise was special but it only made my day even crazier. My father had came back home for a visit. I didn’t want to believe this, but I knew it wasn’t a dream.

“Jillian, honey.” He said and I glared at him. I saw his expression and he looked as confused as ever. I tried to hide my own feelings, but I couldn’t. I felt forlorn and betrayed. He had left the family and let my mother die. He wasn’t even there at her funeral. My father had let me down and left our family with pain and suffering. I never wanted to see his face after he disappeared and he was standing in front of me at the very moment.

“Jillian?” He asked and I shook my head. I walked to him and gathered up my saliva and spitted on his shoe. I quickly turned and walked into the house. My sister and brother looked at me with horror. I could care less about the man. I couldn’t consider him as my father. I felt as if he had done a terrible sin, but deep down I felt something else. He didn’t mean to do any of this to us, but that was how I felt about him at that time.

“Jay, Cherlyn, it’s alright. Well I only came for a visit…so here. I wanted to give this to her. Take care of your little sister.” He said. He had a worried look on his face and Jay could tell that he had done something he had regretted.

“Dad!” He shouted, but the man was already driving away. Jay shook his head wondering what he had done.

All I did the rest of that day was to stare through my window. I remembered what he had said and their expressions. I didn’t know of what had happened until I was in the incident. That day was the last time I saw my father alive. I wished I could have done something nicer when I saw him, but I had been so angry with him. I wish I could have said sorry, but that was the last time I saw him alive. Alive. What a word, right? If I used one word to describe hell, it would be “Alive”.

I read the small packet he gave me and learned that he had enrolled me in a special Umbrella sponsored program and that he had also signed me up as a delivery girl for them. At first I was reluctant to do any of two, but I did it for Jay and Cherlyn. We were short on money so I joined Umbrella.

((Christmas Edition))

It was Christmas break and I had felt like everything was going wrong. At this time, my mother had died, I hated my father, and Jack was still following me around. I still laugh at what he had done. He doesn’t remember, or tries to remember, the girl he had a crush on years back. He never said anything about it. Jack did a lot and on Christmas he did something really nice for me.

I sat on the porch. It was snowing and it was absolutely wonderful, but I didn’t take time to appreciate it. I couldn’t believe that this was my first Christmas without a whole family. Mom was dead, dad was no where in sight, and Jay and Cherlyn were way too busy. I felt alone for once. Even my friends couldn’t cheer me up. I didn’t like this feeling, but it was just there.

I stood up and saw someone in the distance. I just stood there, staring at the person who was walking towards me. I saw a warm smile. His smile was childish and cute. It took me time to realize that it was Jack. I normally would have been devastated to see him again, but his smile lightened up my spirit. He was holding a thermos and was wearing a heavy jacket.

“Um…Jillian?” He asked and I looked at him a bit puzzled. I silently chuckled and looked back at him. We were closer than I thought. I tried avoiding him all the time, but only ended up to get closer to him.

He took my hand and pulled me to the porch. Jack sat down on the steps and I sat right beside him. “I heard you like hot chocolate. I made some and thought you would like some. You seemed a bit down, so I brought some uh….”

“No, you didn’t have too.” I smiled. He wasn’t as bad as I thought. He was a true friend.

“Oh shoot! I forgot to bring mugs!” Jack shouted and I laughed. He stood up and walked into my house. He brought out some mugs and I simply shook my head. He wasn’t the best, but it was alright. I poured some hot cocoa into the mugs and smiled again.

“Hey, Sola!” I waved and shouted. The girl turned and walked over. It took me time to notice that he had brought out more cups than needed.

“Hello, Jillian, Jack.” I poured some of the sweet tasting liquid and passed it to Sola. She took a sip and I stood up.

“I have some cookies…” I was about to go inside, but I noticed a familiar face through a window, Ayami. She was getting ready to celebrate Christmas. I ran inside and got the freshly baked cookies. I brought them outside and wrapped some cookies and took a mug of cocoa. “Hold on…I have to do something.”

I knocked on her door and she came running to the door. The door opened and I smiled. “Not long until Christmas and uh…here.” I held out the mug and cookies and she gratefully accepted them. “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”

Ayami didn’t remember me, but I didn’t really care too much. She shut the door and I walked back to my own home. I saw the two sitting there, talking and eating. I crossed my arms and looked at the sky. Maybe it doesn’t suck that much, I thought. A car drove into the driveway and out came Jay and Cherlyn. They saw my friends and I. They both smiled and walked towards us.

“Mind if we join you?” I nodded and we all sat down, eating and laughing.

This was the most memorable Christmas I’ve ever had in my childhood. I hardly knew the two, but they still came. Jack came and even brought his best friend over to cheer me up. Even after the Raccoon outbreak they still try to cheer me up, even Ayami. We weren’t close at the time, but still he chose to help out. That’s what I like about Jack. He’s a friend.

After a long and exasperating time, Jack asked me out and I accepted. We were good for a week, but I began to drift from him. I wasn’t only drifting from him, but I became distant from everyone. It was all because of the Umbrella program. I only went to school and went straight to the program. But soon I graduated and Umbrella forced me to go through even longer hours in the Program. Sometimes I didn’t even have time to go home. They trained my group like hell. I couldn’t run away, or else they would come after me. If you died, you died, and those who survived were rewarded.

I looked at my hands in horror and fell to my knees. No I couldn’t have, I thought. But I did do it. I had killed him. Blood was on me, splattered everywhere; on my hands, shirt, pants, and even my face. I had shot him, but I could see the satisfaction on Wesker’s face, in his smile. From the corner of my eye, I saw him walk out of the room.

No, No, Out of all the people I could have been paired up with, I thought. This man, whose head gently laid on my lap, was the only person who cared for me. In this Umbrella program, it was tough and no one cared for you. He was the only one and I killed him.

No, he deserved it. He had tried to kill me. Just moments ago, he had swung his knife and cut me on the cheek. We both wanted to live, but I was the one who came out victorious. I knew deep in the heart that I did something wrong, but because of what Umbrella had drilled into my mind the truth was hidden. I slowly stood up and looked around. The people in my group were impressed with me.

They were all criminals, ex RPD members, mercenaries, and killers. And I was the one high school girl that had killed someone bigger than me. My expression on my face was blank, but I was feeling a mixture of feelings. There was that false feeling of success and it was a strong feeling.

“Nice.” A big bulked man said to me. I didn’t reply to him, I only looked to the gun I held in my hands. The same gun I would use to serve Umbrella for a long enough time. Wesker came back in with a paper in his hands.

“You’ve passed and congratulations. You’re going to start as front desk security. You will move up…I know of it. If you do the job right…I will promote you myself.” He said to me. Wesker took the gun out of my hands and placed it back into its holster. He opened my palms and gently put the paper into them. He closed my hands into a fist and I just looked at him.

He turned slowly and stopped. “You won’t be able to run…” My eyes widened as he continued to walk. This was my fate and I had no idea how to escape it. That night, I returned home and went straight to my room. I didn’t have to worry about my bloodied clothes because those were the training clothes. We had lockers were we kept our normal clothes and bathrooms to change in, so it was fine. Umbrella had me chained to them as a part of the security personnel and I went through their hell just to be trained for it.

“I’m stuck. Umbrella...They have everything on a leash.”

Working it Out:

I occasionally bumped into Sola a few times, because we worked at the same place. But that soon changed when I decided to work in the Security division at the Umbrella Power Plant. Over the years, I got all the way up to the Head of Security of the Umbrella Power Plant. Not only did I just do my job, but a few of my old group members decided that I could help them eliminate a small bug that stood in Umbrella’s way.

“Masters, you’re the snipe.” The commander said and I grunted. I was tired and I wanted to fall asleep. Jayce could have killed the darn man himself, but he had family business to attend to. I was surprised that the man still had family to turn to. Jay and Cherlyn were out of my life and I knew I wouldn’t see them in a long time.

I raised the gun and went to my assigned station. I was to kill the man and the guys were going to get his wife. They were supposed to drag her out, so the man, that was to be killed, could have a reason to come out. I began to set up the gun. It was a chilly night and it made the cold, black painted steel of the sniper even colder. There were gun shots and I heard the death screams of my comrades in my earpiece. I cursed quietly and heard the cocking of guns behind me. I slowly raised my hands up and to my head.

“You are under arrest!” A woman shouted. Her voice was familiar, but I couldn’t tell who it was.

“Freeze!” A man ordered. I remembered that voice. It was the same voice that had calmed me down and now it was harshly ordering me. I slightly turned my head to see Jack. He was a part of the RPD and I slightly chuckled.

I sighed and shook my head. I pretended to reach for my handgun and some rookie officers shot. They shot their guns awkwardly and missed me. I thanked them mentally, because they had caused the distraction I needed. I ran for the edge of the roof top and took one quick glance at Jack. He wasn’t the same kid I went out with, but then again, I was different too. When they finally settled, I grinned and waved. They all pointed their guns at me, but I had jumped off.

Luckily and not so luckily, I landed in a garbage truck. It smelled horrible and just was disgusting. Who knew what was in that pile of garbage I had landed in, I thought. The RPD looked for me at the edge of the rooftop, but they couldn’t find me. I had covered myself with a plastic bag and some other things I rather not explain.

When I got home, I took a long shower and fixed myself up. I could still smell the stench of the garbage and I took another shower. I didn’t smell too bad after the second shower, but I still felt the feeling of dirtiness. I dressed into my night clothes and plopped onto my bed. I sat there and wondered about Jack. He was different to me and it seemed as if the man wasn’t the same boy I knew. Or could it be that I was on a different side? I didn’t know.

I sat up and sighed. I didn’t care about him, or anyone else, up until now. The event had made me think about what have ever happened to my family and old friends. What happened after graduation? Did anyone move? Did they continue school? What kind of college did they go to? Do they remember me? All these questions went through my mind. My telephone rang, but I was too deep in my own thoughts to hear it. I soon snapped out of it and walked into my kitchen. I had a pile of letters on my counter that I had not opened yet.

“Bills…more bills…and…” For once, I smiled. It had been a long time since I had done that. “Jay Masters?” I chuckled and opened the letter. A small picture fell out and it made me laugh. It was a picture of when we were children. I was only four and they were about eight and nine. My big sister was just smiling like an angel, but Jay had pulled at my hair and had made me yelp in pain. Mom had even caught it in a photo.

He told me of life and how Cherlyn had moved somewhere out of Raccoon. He said that he appreciated the money I once sent him and he wish he had more. Jay didn’t put anything negative and everything was positive. At the end, he enclosed his address, so I could reply. He lived at our old house and I shook my head. He never really did like to move away from home.

I looked at my messages and played them. I heard Jay’s message and I sighed. Maybe I should visit him, like he suggested. I haven’t seen him for a long time and I guess it was time I patched up a few things. I decided to visit him the next day.

I took out an old key and inserted it into the keyhole. I turned it and opened the door to my old home. I was wary to step inside and a bit afraid. If he still followed his old schedule then he would come exactly five minutes after I step inside. I closed the door behind me and sat in the old living room. The house was the same and nothing had changed. I hated it. This place brought back horrible memories that I never wanted to remember again, but I knew it couldn’t be helped.

I sat on my hands and squirmed a bit in my chair. I was nervous to face my big brother again, after a very long time. I heard the door open and I sat in the chair silently. Jay jumped into the living room with his hand gun and pointed it at me. Because of my training, I immediately reached for my own hidden gun, but stopped myself. I didn’t want him to know about my secret. I calmly placed my hands on my lap and smiled. I was happy to see him and not so happy at the same time.

Jay was startled to see me and I could tell because he had jumped up and dropped his firearm. He picked it up and holstered it. He was in his RPD uniform, and I wasn’t too thrilled about that. Jay smiled back and sat down. “How did you?”

“Key.” I tossed him the bronze colored, spare key and he nodded. He chuckled nervously and I just continued to just look at him. I personally didn’t know what to say to him. I had nothing to report or talk about. We were in a heavy, awkward silence, but being the more talkative of men, Jay broke the silence.

“Nice outfit you got there. Where’d you get it?” He asked. I laughed at how stupid he sounded. Jay was still the same person, still the annoying child.

“From my closet…” I said quietly and he began to laugh. I began to laugh myself. I haven’t heard the laughs or the voice of anyone close to me in a while. I had no one and Jay managed to push through that. We stopped laughing and I brushed off some dirt off my jeans. I stood up and sighed. “Jay, I’m sorry. How bad—“

He interrupted me and hugged me before I could say anything more. He began to sob and I could feel his warm, wet tears. I was startled, but I had nothing to say. I didn’t know him anymore and I felt as if I had nothing to cry about. He was once my brother, I thought.

“You shouldn’t have left... No, I’m sorry…Please, forgive me.” He cried out and I stood there, looking stupid. “It’s my fault…You were doing this for Cherlyn and me, but I let you go over the edge…I’m sorry.” It then struck me. I had joined Umbrella to help those I loved, but over the years I have neglected them and lost touch.

“Jay…” I was speechless. While he had cried and told me this, I had only been standing there, but then I finally returned the hug. He used to reassure me with his hugs, but now I was reassuring him.

“You’ve changed…” He whispered, trying to stop himself from crying even more.

“We all do…for the better or for the worse.” I said and looked down at him. He really did care and was really crying. I pulled away from his hug and shook my head. The world was quiet and nothing else moved except him and me. It was as if the world was holding its breath for us.

“I’m sorry, Jay…” I looked at him one last time and walked to the door. “I don’t know you anymore.” I said coldly. I didn’t bother to look back at his face because I knew it would hurt him, but I didn’t know that it would hurt me too, though. When I left and drove away, I began to cry. I didn’t want him to see who I have become and I didn’t want to hurt him more than I already have. I felt so sorry. The traffic light flashed green and red, but I didn’t move. Why did I go see him again? To hurt him? I wiped my tears and continued to drive. Why did I hurt him?

That was the last time I saw Jay, before the Raccoon outbreak. He called me, so we could talk, but I never had the courage to talk to him again. For a long time after my meeting with him, I refused to go to work, but Umbrella sent people after me, so I had to. I didn’t have a choice and I didn’t have an opportunity to run away. I still can’t believe that I turned my back on them or that I had been cold enough to hurt my brother that much. I can’t believe I made him cry…

I went to work as the head of security at the Umbrella Power plant. Few people had love for me and most couldn’t accept that fact that I rose above them. Most were crooks and others had more experience. I had only risen to the top because of Wesker. The man whom I thought was my ally. It was hard for me to gain the respect of those below me. Sometimes I had to show them who I was, by going on missions with them, other times I would have to put them in a situation that was near death. I wasn’t the best of leaders, but Wesker had put me in the position because he could manipulate me into doing what ever he wanted.

I was dressed in my uniform and walked through the power plant gates. Everyone here was heavily armored and the security was high. I looked around and saw some new faces. I hated new people coming over to my section. I walked over to them and just looked at them. They were all laughing and cheering, just having a good time.

“Oh look it’s the big cheese of the place…Whoa, she’s short and to add on, she’s a woman.” The biggest person out of the group said. I shook my head and looked at him. I chuckled and shook my head again. I studied his face and expression. My eyes finally met his eyes and I turned around. I saw fear.

“Hey, don’t you turn your back on me! You little—“

“You little what?” I asked, turning back to him. “I won’t tolerate any profanity or any unacceptable language here, as long as I am the head.” He was huge, and to others he was intimidating, but for me he was just another person. “Why are you here? I don’t see how an imbecile, like you, made it in…Might as well…”

“What did you say about me?!” His face turned red. The man was filled with fury and I had only called him one thing. I chuckled again. It didn’t take me long to anger him. “What are you laughing about?!”

“I would say your face, but that would be rude of me, no?” I asked and looked into his eyes. How amusing…the man wanted to hit me, I thought.

I was right. He swung his left fist at me in a hook motion to my right side. My right hand blocked his attack and grabbed his shirt, while my left hand shot to his throat. I took my left foot and put it behind his left heel. I then kicked his heel back with my own heel and pushed him down with my left hand. The man soon tumbled to the ground on his back, with my hands to his throat and wrist. With all my strength, I was pushing down on both of the areas. His free hand reached for my left hand and grabbed it. He was trying to pull my hand away and he was squeezing it hard.

The man was beginning to turn blue and he was gasping for air. My left hand was beginning to feel numb, but I refused to let go. He looked at me in a sad look and I finally let go. The man had given in to me and I knew that feeling. He had been defeated.

The man stood up and rubbed his neck. “I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…Ma’am.”

I nodded and turned. I had once felt that feeling of being defeated. I had felt it years back, when I graduated the Umbrella program. I had become what my superiors were. I looked at him and sighed.

“I’m sorry…” I said quietly. I had never used that word in a while and it was strange for me. I felt as if the word was so foreign to me. I held out my hand and looked at it. I wanted him to shake it, to show that he accepted my apology. It felt awkward for me to do this, I felt as if I was learning something new.

“Are you alright?” He asked, as he shook my hand.

“Yes, fortunately…I’m your leader…” This man was a big help. We became close and went on dates. I soon remembered how it felt to feel the warmth of being cared for. I soon realized that I missed that feeling and he helped me regain the lost emotions that I had dropped a long time ago. He died a long time ago because of the horrid outbreak, but I will always remember him and what he had done. I pray for the man, he was once so dear to me.

The Beginning of Hell: the raccoon city outbreak-

I fixed my hair and got ready for my date. It didn’t take me long, though, because I wasn’t the type of girl who cared too much for makeup and how I looked. I always thought that if I was presentable then it was alright. I heard the doorbell and opened the door to see my date. He was wearing an elegant suit and I was wearing casual jogging clothes. I looked to the ground and shook my head.

“Oh geez… Ah I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was supposed to be formal and stuff.” I was embarrassed and it showed on my face. I was red and he didn’t say a word. He was just quiet and just smiled at me. I loved him. The man standing in front of me was my love, my dream, and my life. I cherished him with all my heart and I did it all because I knew I would lose him.

The man who stood in front would be ripped away from me. All my close friends from Umbrella would become my enemies. If they became the undead then I would have to kill them and those living served Wesker like a dog.

“Don’t worry about it…To be truthful; I was going to bring you to a cheap Mexican restaurant.” He said with a chuckle and I shook my head.

“Nice way to be truthful…” I took my hand and pulled on one of his spikes. The guy was loaded and I knew he liked to be showy. Although he was a showoff, he was nice and that’s why I stayed with him. For some reason, the nice guys got to me.

My phone rang and I groaned. No one called me except for Jay, bill collectors, and Wesker. I hated all three of them, so I prepared for the worst. I walked up to the phone and picked it up. Great, Wesker was calling me to work and I was about to go on a date.

“Jillian, sorry but I have to go, my boss called me back to work…A drag, huh?” I shrugged and he left.

“Trent…” I muttered as I changed into my uniform. I pulled on cameo pants and a black long-sleeved shirt. I pulled combat boots over my socks and pants and tied my hair back. I then pulled on the original bullet-proof vest and then another vest. What a joy it was to get ready for work. “I hate my job, but Wesker won’t open the cage.” I took my gloves and wore them, before taking my guns. Wesker was strict about fingerprints on our weapons and I couldn’t blame him. He always had a way to make us dirty our hands for Umbrella. After I was done setting up, I drove to the power plant and took my spot guarding.

This was the night when hell would break lose. I sat in my chair, about to dose off, for nothing ever happened and they could all handle it themselves. Someone then burst through my door and found me.

“Ma’am, Richard’s having a seizure!” A guard shouted at me. Startled, I stumbled off the chair and fell to the floor with a thud. I muttered something and cursed before getting up.

“Nice…” I said before marching out of the door. I walked outside to see a group of people around a woman on the ground. She was shaking uncontrollably and her eyes had rolled back. It was a disgusting sight, but I noticed something eerie on her, a human bite mark.

“Move!” I ordered, pushing my way through the crowd. “Get away from her!” They listened to me and went back to work. “Richard, what the hell have you been doing?” I whispered and reach over to her neck. It was a bite mark and was strange. She was bleeding. She stopped squirming and I reached over to close her eyes, but Richard’s hands shot up to my arm and held it tight.

I screamed as she dug her teeth into my arm. Everyone reached for their guns and shot multiple times at her. Then one lucky shot got her in the head and she let go. I fell backwards and looked at my arm. “Nice…” I said calmly. It was painful and burning. I would have screamed again, but it didn’t seem like the right time.

“Ma’am, are you alright?!” One of the guards asked and I nodded, shaking my injured arm.

“Look…Shoot all who have a human bite mark on them…Aim for Target one the head…like all assassination missions.” I ordered and walked slowly back inside. I tried to convince myself that Richard wasn’t what I thought she had become, but I knew that Hell was upon us. I just didn’t want to admit it to myself.

When I got inside, I rushed to the restroom with a first aid kit. Although I looked calm, I was panicking. It was a strange sight for me to be panicking like I was, but I just had the strangest feeling that this could be the last time I live.

I took some gauze and bandaged my wound quickly and tightly. It was burning even more than it had earlier. My body temperature was rising and my hands were clutching the rims on the sink. Beads of sweat rolled down my forehead and my stomach was turning. All sound around me began to fade into silence and I starred at the mirror stunned. I closed my eyes and a familiar voice shouted my name, Trent.

“Jillian, are you alright?!” He shouted and I jerked my head over to him. I wiped the sweat off my forehead and rubbed my injured arm.

“Trent? Eh…Yeah…I guess.” I was surprised that he was here and also surprised that he was wearing a lab coat. “Scienti—“

The man grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the restroom. He pulled me up the stairs to the roof and to a helicopter. “Join this team and get out of here…They want to take me, but I want to die knowing the fact your safe. An infection is spreading…no chance of survivors.”

I sat there nodding my head. I wasn’t really getting anything he was saying, for my body, or what had been injected into my body, was fighting off the infection that had entered through the bite of the undead. “You’ll be okay?” I asked and cough.

“You didn’t hear me? I’m sorry, but I want you to live…Do that for me, love…Please?” I blinked and sat on the helicopter seat. I wasn’t crying, or feeling sad. I didn’t feel much when he told me what he had just said. I loved him, but I knew that he wasn’t the only one being ripped away. Almost all people in Raccoon were going to turn into the undead, and that was why I didn’t care.

The helicopter rocked and I almost gagged. I was already not feeling good and the rocking wasn’t helping that much. I heard a thump and turned to the sound. My eyes widened and my heart began to beat faster. My hands turned clammy and I gulped. It was just like the horror movies except it was really real.

An inhuman hand, or claw, grabbed onto the open door’s side and the helicopter tipped toward it. I was so surprised from just seeing it, I stood up and now I was sliding towards it. I did what the first thing in my mind told me to, shoot. I took out my gun and shot at its hand.

“No, no, no, it’s not working.” I muttered and cursed.

I felt a sudden squeeze on my leg and even more panic hit me. My breaths were faster and my eyes were even wider.

Whoosh!

I was in open air, hanging up side down. Everything spun in circles and I was too surprised to know what had just happen. The thing lifted me up and I saw its face and felt its warm breath. The thing was so human, except for its tongue and claws, but the thing that bothered me the most was its brain. I didn’t know how smart it was, but its brain was exposed.

Its head jerked forward, with snake-like speed, trying to get a bite of me. I swung to the side and noticed its strong jaw and more panic ran through me. Then I saw its sharp, razor-like teeth and the time froze. The helicopter’s blades got smaller and quieter. People were screaming my name and I only looked up. Was I falling? I then saw something red, falling with me. Blood. My blood.

“AHHHHH!” I screamed as one of its claws cut into my shoulder. My arm tightened with pain and I didn’t dare to move it. I took the gun out of my other hand and closed my eyes. I shoved my hand, holding the gun, into the creature’s mouth and shot.

Its grip loosened and I continued to fall. I fell and fell, for what seemed forever and then I blacked out.

“…Hey get up…Are you alright? Hello?” A familiar voice asked. I was being shaken gently. I opened my eyes and saw two human like blobs in front of me. I shot up from the ground and noticed the pain in my arm.

“Whoa, easy there...I found you here--” The same voice said. Whose boyish voice was this, I asked myself.

“Jack, we have five coming…hurry up.” I turned my head to the man behind me quickly and immediately recognized him. Jack Anderson. He was wearing a STARS uniform and he had grown up to be a STARS guy. Then I turned to the woman who had just spoken and to my surprise it was also someone I once knew.

“Ayami Garnet. Almuni of RHS…” I whispered to myself. What a small world it was, I thought and rolled my eyes. It was such a small world and I had to be in this particular place of the world.

“What’s five coming?” I asked, slowly rising up from the ground. They didn’t have to answer me though, I already knew. I saw humans in front of me, but because of the flames burning from a car I could see them clearly. They weren’t humans, they were dead. It sounds funny for now, but they really were dead. Their flesh was rotting and some didn’t even look dead, but their expression was all the same. Their faces looked blank, but you could see that they were hungry and even death wouldn’t stop them.

"Ayami...I noticed---" Jack started but she interrupted him.

"Yeah..." She turned to me and continued, "How long ago did you get bitten?" Ayami pointed her gun at me and I only stood up and dusted some dirt off of me.

Was she supposed to be threatening me? I simply laughed and looked at them. I noticed that I was no longer sick and my arm and shoulder no longer hurt. I unwrapped my arm and looked at it.

"Its gone..." I whispered, amazed. What was this? I stood there staring at it and then I heard gunshots. A lot of them.

The two STARS members unleashed a hail of bullets upon the undead. They were just playing the hero, I thought. I was serious about playing because they obviously weren't shooting at the dead men's head! I searched for my handgun as the two members held, or attempted to hold, them back. When I found it I said, "So you guys like playing Zombie Hunter?"

Ayami turned to me and gave me a quick glare and I only laughed. Perhaps I would play as well and maybe give a few pointers. I walked over to Jack and from behind, grabbed his hands. "What the hell are you doing?!"

"Helping you." I replied. I moved his hands up and barely, because he was pretty tall, looked over his shoulder. I aimed his gun for him, he shot, and we were all a happy friend group! Yeah right, of course playing like this got me in trouble. Jack managed to kill a zombie and Ayami soon got a hold of what to do. Now, they were shooting at the dead men heads, but Jack kept a surprise look on his face. It made me laugh.

"Do you think this is a kind of joke?!" Ayami turned to me and I kept the same smile on my face. "We're in a middle of a crisis and that's all you can do?! You could have told us instead of landing ontop of him!"

"It was a joke...and what exactly are you trying to say? I know you would have done it as well if you weren't the one shooting. It was only a joke, but you seem to take it so hard. Perhaps you have a slight, how do you say this, crush, and do you have a hint of jealousy too? Besides, shouldn't it be him getting mad, rather than you? Did I interupt a relationship, Garnet, Anderson?" Before the two could ask about how I knew their names, I simply said, "On your name tags...Now any other questions, before we actually move so we do not die?"

Jack didn't answer and Ayami and I were obviously not on the best turns. It didn't take long for us to move and I hated the quietness around us. It scared me. It was like the city had become abandon and only a few 'creatures' inhabited it. By creatures, I meant the ones that came up and bit the hell out of you like mosquitoes, and by that, I meant undead.

"What's wrong, Umbrella Scum?" Ayami asked and rolled my eyes. I just wanted to slap the girl, but she would probably blow me up with a mini-explosive.

I looked at the rooftops and frowned. "I suggest we move into this alley. Door to your right is a weapon store... I'll scout on the rooftops...you guys better get all the stuff you need." Even I didn't want one of them dead, because it would lower out chance of survival. They moved into the weapon store and I climbed to the roof and just as I had expected.

"You have sharp eyes..." A young woman said to me, "I saw your little stunt with Jack...Was that really necessary?"

"No, but it sure scared him to hell and back...And it scared his partner too. Tell my Miss Valance, why exactly do you care?"

"Ah, you could get yourself killed, Masters. You know that...I was about to--"

"I know, shoot. Why do you think I actually did that? I knew you were going to shoot him, but if you and I want to get out of this blasted town then I suggest keeping the two alive. Then we'll have an easier chance of survival...agreed?" I asked Sola Valance and she gave me a nod.

Sola walked over to the ladder and climbed down, leaving the sniper on the roof. I checked if it was loaded and found it empty. "You didn't shoot him...but something else..."

I don't exactly remember what happened in those few moments after I climbed down the ladder. I don't know why, but I know that its not because I'm getting too old, but I remember a lot of stuff from the event because this event is one that changed me. Heck, it made me stop watching scary movies because they bored me to death...Well anyways here's how it happened.

"You can atleast thank me for finding your friend!" I hollered at Ayami and she pushed me.

"Listen to me, and listen good, Masters. You're only alive because it helps with our chances of survival! I would kill you right now, but it would be too much of a hassel to stick another bullet in your head! I rather not waste any---"

Ayami was inturrupted by Sola Valance. "You all should calm down. I'm safe, I'm here, and here to help." I rolled her eyes as she said this, and went to the front of the alley to stand watch. "Jack, you shouldn't say anything because she works at Umbrella, remember I worked at Umbrella too..."

Jack didn't answer and I motioned them to walk. The streets were clear in this area, but I didn't like how there were overturned cars, glass was everywhere, and the fact that it actually looked like something that some people would envision Hell as. I mean Hell is pretty much a place of monsters from someone's nightmare, inhuman screams, fires, chaos, and of course the unwelcoming Aura. Ah, you gotta love hell. It's the place were ugly ducklings are born and Santa's Ho, Ho, Ho's come from.

We walked for a little bit, until we reached the police station. We rested there, got some ammo, and planned. I really wasn't one of the contributors to the planning; the ideas were from Jack and Sola, while Ayami and I just watch. I didn't want to say anything because I was afraid that Ayami would blow me up with one of her many explosives, and I still fear her for that.
"So...we're going to get out by train?" Ayami nodded and Sola nodded, I just answered with an, "Eh." When we all seemingly agreed on taking the train to get out of Raccoon, we did the next brilliant thing, we traveled to the train. Other than the licker nearly ripping my leg off, the most horrific thing I've seen was on my trip toward the train.

We passed by one alley, and I, for no reason at all, or for a reason I don't remember, stopped, and noticed something digusting. There at the end alley was a body. A long tounge held the body by its neck, while its body dangled freely from the ground. It's face had been ripped off, revealing its bloody skull, and flesh hung from the body's teeth. The feet were missing, but I soon found the feet, two 'dogs' were chewing on them. I noticed that the lower legs had been skinned, exposing muscles and bones. I could just see the muscles tense, and I saw the puddle of blood beneath the body. I could have sworn that the dead body's hand twitched, when I heard something snap. I was guessing that the poor person's head snapped, but I didn't want to be the one to examine it.

When the 'dogs' and the long-tounged beast were almost done with their meals, I ran for it, as quick as I could. I did not want to be the next victim and I was was scared beyond belief. I swear that I could have went pee in my pants back then, but I don't remember. I didn't want to remember really. I'm not embarrassed. Do you even know how being in a real horror movie feels?

"What's the rush?" Jack asked, acting all manly and heroic. I laughed at him, while I attempted to catch my breath. He's always been the one to try and be the knight in shining armor, or be the savior, or something hero related. I still don't get why he thinks that the hero act will impress all woman. I could tell that Sola wasn't impressed by her friend's behavior and I only managed to laugh some more.

"Well..I suggest to get a move on. Even I don't like to wear blood on me..." I muttered the last sentence and walked passed him. "Anderson--"

"Jack."

"Whatever. Do you know that even Superman has a weakness? If you throw a piece of kryptonite at him, he'll get real sick and maybe even die...I wonder if other real heroes have it as bad." I told him loud and clear and his heroic smile vanished when he put himself on a more serious mode.

"The train station shouldn't be too far away. We should make it there soon..."

On the way to the train station, we were all talking in hushed tones to each other to ease the tension, and to make us loosen up. I hadn't realized that I had been spilling my feelings and letting my guard down, until after the outbreak. Jack seemed to welcome what I said with open arms and it made me feel safer. Although we didn't talk for long, we seemed to bond. For some reason, in those ten minutes or so, I had gained his, and he had gain my trust. Ayami even loosened up a bit too, but through all our chattering, Sola Valance was stiff and quiet.

When the two got ahead of us, I stopped her and looked her in the eye. Oh, I was afraid of her, even if she was so young. I was staring into the soul of pure brilliance. Sola Valance was only about eighteen during the outbreak, and yet she handled her STARS job well. Even now to this day I wonder about her brilliance. Of course she surpassed me in cases, but we still managed to be friends. I was one of the more forgiving of the group...

"What may be the problem, Miss Valance? Anything that I can help you with?" I asked her, acting like the normal Umbrella guard I was. Even during the outbreak I felt like I was still on duty. I felt like I was being watched.

"Stop being formal..." She bit her lip and looked at my name tag. I knew she was trying to hold back from saying my last name. "Jillian. Nothings wrong and your only duty is to stay alive. Everyone's on their own. You're not guarding me..." I really didn't get why she said this, but now that I look back I understand it clearly. I understand, now, why she told me this. It's not something that's hard to decipher.

I was speechless and we caught up to Ayami and Jack. I either ate too many burritos that day, or was out of shape, because my steps were killing me, and I wanted to just sit down. I wanted to rest already, but we needed to move, and quickly. I wondered about her statement for a while and wondered about it. Something strange was in it and it was bothering me, a lot. I found myself keeping a very close eye on her, that is until we got to the train station.

Sola had said that she was going to scout, Jack and Ayami went to turn on back up power for the train, and I was the lucky one who was left to guard the entrance. I've guard an entrance for years, and for once, I didn't want to be the first one to face the dangers, or be the first human chew toy of the undead. I don't know where Sola had went, but I did know that she was not really scouting. I wanted to go after her, but I had a feeling that if I did I would be able to feel a warm liquid down my leg.

Dang night shift, I had thought, you never get to use the restroom.

Boom!

I turned to see a tower's front side collapse. Someone had done something uncalled for and for some reason I thought, Ayami. "Ayami!" I remember shouting. Even though we didn't start on the best of terms, I still felt that even she deserved to live. I ran to where I heard the explosion and looked through the rubble.

"Masters, did you find her yet?" Jack asked, coming right beside me to move some rocks. "Oh god...you didn't have to do that, Ayami. Don't be dead! Please don't be dead..." For some reason, Jack looked funny as he said this. I swear that he could have broken out into tears any moment...but I've never known Jack to be a crybaby.

God dammit! It figures that Jake would have messed with the pages... Poor kid must have mistaken it for a decorated tissue and I can't believe that I wondered why his nose was black that one night. I guess it was my fault for leaving my journal out. Ever since I moved to Crap Raccoon, I've been writing down things. They were never regular, but that was fine, for I remembered almost everything. I guess the shitty events that plague me every night means that I remember well...

To make a long story a bit shorter((Maybe)), we ended up finding Ayami. I never did find out why she attempted to blow herself up, but I was happy that she only hit her head. Jack and I were pretty lucky to find her...even though, she was barely breathing. We had pulled her from the rubble and had carried her to the now operational train. Sola never showed up and I worried for her, because she was the youngest. She was the youngest, but probably more mature than me. Ha ha. I find that really sad on my part.

Before Jack could get to the front of the train and start it, we were attacked. A monstrous tan giant, dressed in the blackest trench coat and the heaviest boots, came. The thing stood high and was armed with a rocket launcher. The only other thing I could say about it is that is was tall, dark, and fucking ugly. The human-like, if you can describe it that way, monster had a massive body, and to me, it had a small, ugly head. Excuse me for using the same word, but it wasn't pretty at all. ((When I described the thing to my husband, he said, "So he's like Shaq...gone terribly wrong?"))

Jack, who was worried about our getaway, rushed us out of the train compartment, upon hearing the eerie voice of the monster say, "SSSTTTTAARRRSSS!" I remember pushing open the door opposite of Jack. He told me to get Ayami and bring her out the back, so we wouldn't have to worry about Nemesis for a while. Jack loved playing superman and at times he would save our asses, but it worried me a lot. Superman could get killed, too, you know?

While Jack fought, I made sure Ayami didn't permanently fall asleep. "Hey...Ayami. Talk to me." Every time I said this, I would silently laugh, because she had a different answer each time. "I like aeroplanes..." She would mutter. "Don't fall asleep...Let's talk about airplanes...Tell me about them." Her replies came in short and sweet answers. Each answer told me about her, and it's funny how I learned so much. Apparently, she liked planes, jets to be exact, and planned to join the Air force after we got out.

A few minutes, after Ayami and I had finished our conversation, I heard the sound of a helicopter. Above me was a hovering helicopter, and I saw Sola. She was looking down at us with an unreadable expression. I recognized the sign on the side of the chopper and realized that from the beginning I was only a tool. Being the Head of Security was nothing and I knew now that it was only a title that made me even more easier to control. I was just a pawn. "Fuck you, Sola!" I shouted into the air, but my voice wouldn't be heard from the chopper. "You going to leave us to die?! Damnit! I was fucking right!"

I was angry and betrayed. I was lost and confused. I was hopeless and afraid.

The chopper left, but didn't leave before dropping another rocket launcher on the other side of the train. I heard Jack scream something, and then an explosion. At that point, I covered my ears and shut my eyes. After that, everything was just a blur. I think I collapsed due to exhaustion. That night began with me preparing for a date, then going back to work, only to be evacuated and thrown out of a helicopter into hell, and finally ended, with me collapsing or something. I don't think I collapsed before helping Jack get Ayami back on the train, and even though he said I didn't, I still think he lies.

I remember opening my eyes to see bright, fiery lights engulf the city, behind the train. "You think that's beautiful?" Jack asked. Ayami had rested her head against Jack's shoulder, and I thought that was cute, but she probably was just too tired to do anything about it. "I'm glad its over..." She said. "You know...We've escaped death...and escaped Hell... Congratz..." I turned to face the seat cushion and closed my eyes again, trying to sleep away the pounding headache I had. "Congratulation, guys...Congradulations...We beat the devil...and kept our....lives..."

Escaped-

"Oh...." I groaned.

Yeah, it turned out that the damned train only had so much power. We never did make it to the city with the train...The rest of the way we had to drag our asses to the next town, and we weren't even half way there to begin with. Sure, I had just survived hell, but no one said that there wasn’t going to be another ‘hell’. Instead of fighting off the undead, we were fighting off other stuff... My training in Umbrella had never prepared me for the viral outbreak, and it also didn't prepare me for this...
"Jill...Jillian....Jillian...." "She's not waking up...Do you think she dead?" "Well if she is...I think I know where her---"

I grabbed his shirt collar and pulled him down so I could see him. "Bitch..." I managed to say, before letting him go. My head wasn't hurting anymore, but my whole body ached and I felt as if I couldn't move. "Ah..." Ayami stepped toward me, but I held out my hand and waved her away. "Are we in the city yet?" I asked them with a smile and Jack nervously laughed. "Wai...Ow...Where are we?" I slowly got off my 'bed' and got up to my feet. "I can walk...good. Maybe I broke a rib..." I walked over to one of the slide open doors and pushed it opened.

Jack nervously laughed again and then I heard him say "Ow". Ayami probably elbowed him. "...Where are we?" I repeated my question and Ayami placed her hand on my shoulder. "Well, according to my calculations, we're stuck in the middle of a dessert and we have to walk the rest of the way to city..." "Are you trying to bitch with me, Ayami?" "Nope...I'm serious. I was scared that you would scream at us if we told you...but I don't think screaming would do anything to Jack. Instead of listening, he'd probably just stare at your breasts the whole time..."

At first, we tried not to laugh, but in the end Ayami and I burst out with laughter. "I would not! I'm not like that!" He would shout and we would just continue to laugh. Laughing sure made everything in the world better…in most cases. Soon we stopped laughing, but I wasn’t going to let that topic die. I found it too funny. I unzipped the tactical vest and took off the bulletproof one and then turned to Jack. "Ok!" I shouted, getting up so I could look straight at him.

We were in the middle of a desert and we had just had a really good laugh, so by this time I was sweating and probably acting weird because of the heat. Ayami giggled as she watched me. I grabbed my boobs and then pushed them together when I spoke to Jack. "So, jackass," Ayami started to laugh again as we saw poor Jack’s eyes drift down to my chest. I squatted down, still holding my breasts, and looked at him with watery eyes. “Oh…why are you crying?” He asked and then Ayami laughed louder. “Nothing,” I let go of my breasts and bit my lip, in an attempt to stifle my laugh. Jack was so fun to toy with, and believe me, this wasn’t the last time Ayami and I played with him. I guess you can say that we were just being bitches. Every girl has her moments, but at that moment, our little moment had passed and we became serious again. I grabbed his ear soon after and said, “You’re just a little moron….C’mon…We need to go.”

I knew it wasn’t very nice of me when I grabbed his ear, or did the other thing I had done, but oh well; I was being a girl then. I kicked him out of the train and he landed in some shrub or something like that. Then I picked up my vests. “You sure you want to bring that stuff? I don’t see why you would need it…It’s just a desert.” “What do you mean just a desert? Ever watch Discovery Channel?” She sighed and jumped out of the train door. I stayed behind for a while and looked around the train for anything of use. In the end of my search, I found a suitcase filled with clothing and a rusted canteen. Of course, the canteen was useless, so I pretty much threw it away, but the clothes seemed alright.

“What are these for?” Ayami asked. “Just cover your face. It gets real hot out here and we wouldn’t want to suffer from sunburn. You should pretty much cover anything that’s not covered on you…” “How ‘bout you?” Jack asked me and I took a shirt to cover my neck and my hair. I then went back to the train and got out my gas mask. I pulled the straps over my head and put it on. “Yes, I get this, Jack.” I said, even though my voice sounded a little weird from behind the mask. “Stop looking like an…” I stopped. His expression was funny and in my opinion, he truly did look like an idiot wrapped in random clothing. I chuckled and began to walk away; still wearing the equipment and items Umbrella gave to me, and still wearing their symbol on my back. For some reason, even after the event which Umbrella had caused, I still wanted to work for them and I did later… in some way or another.

Welcome Back to Living -

Most of the day we walked, and a few times we stopped and rest. If you were unprepared the desert was a dangerous place, and unfortunately we weren’t prepared. The day was burning hot and I could feel my clothes stick to my skin. My throat was dry, and I tried not to speak unless I needed too. Out of the three of us, Jack seemed to be the most unaffected by the heat and sun, and to me it was annoying. “He talks too much…” Ayami told me and I nodded. When we stopped for a break, I wanted to smash his head against the train track we were following, but I didn’t. I think we walked for another hour or so before the sun set and it became dark.

Being in the dark frightened me. I was afraid that one of the monsters would come and attack us, so the whole night I sat in front of my friends, acting like some guard. I didn’t go to sleep, so I stared into the space, twitching at every sound and at every movement I thought I saw and heard. Waiting for the sun to take away the darkness seemed to take forever, but I didn’t allow myself to go to sleep. I should have slept though…

I looked around at my surroundings and saw the color of white everywhere. “This is some fucked up universe…” I muttered, trying to move my numb body. My surroundings got clearer and then I realized where I was. “A hospital?” “Yes, a hospital…” I recognized the voice and almost growled. “Jillian Masters, Head of the Raccoon City Plant Security…and a lucky survivor of the Raccoon City Outbreak. It’s in all the papers…The big boom, really…They say that everyone died. Reporters don’t believe Ayami’s and Jack’s stories about what happened…and think they’re crazy…”

“Great…I’m stuck in hell with you…again.” I muttered, rolling my eyes. “I’m sorry.” She told me and I shook my head. “Are you really sorry, Sola? I was supposed to get out of the hospital three weeks after my meeting with Sola, but I forced them to let me out three days later.
