Kim wanted to wipe a tear from her eye, but the mask obstructed it. "God....I hope Jake made it...if not..." She shook her head. "No, he is alive. and we'll see him, and Kira at the outpost...yes." Suddenly, the sound of a load engine in front of them. It was a GDI harvester, its gun trained on them. Kim began to wave her arms, showing that they weren't hostile. The harvester stopped, and the hatched opened. The driver, wearing the special suit, looked at them. "Hey! What are you guy doing out here?" Kim couldn't be more happy to see another friendly face. "We're survivors from the base forty miles south...we hijacked these bikes to get away." The driver nodded. "Okay. Judging by the gunshots in the glass, I believe you, but you'll still need to show identification before you enter the base." "Where is it?" "Around that cliff. About half a mile. Come here a second." He invited them into the harvester, and unsealed the hatch. It was surprisingly roomy inside. "I wouldn't approach the base on those bikes. We have snipers on the cliff tops, and they'll probably shoot first. So, put on these suits, and you can walk there without the threat of tiberium exposure. Just present your identification to the gate guards." Kim was more than thankful at his hospitality. He seemed to turn red, embarrassed at the sight of Kim. "Oh..sorry, you don't need to undress, just put it over your current fatigues...oh and just leave your armor here, and I'll return it after we're done. Now hussle, we gotta keep a schedule." Kim and Astor stripped themselves of armor, and quickly put the suits on. The hatch was opened, and they were now to go on foot the rest of the way. Kim remained silent through the entire trek, even if Astor may have said something. As the approached the gate, a Pitbull drove up by them, and the driver exited with a scanner. "Identification please." Kim unzipped the suit, presented her card, and slid it through the scanner. It began to blink, and shown green. "Kim Masane." The driver read, and faced Astor. "Your turn, sir."

The ship docked at a field near the city they were to strike. "Okay...let's do this for Kane....for our brothers." Adel simply said, and entered the tank, backing it out of the cargo hold. The sound of wings tearing through wind, and eight black adorned men landed, with hang gliders. "Brother, sister. Come, we must keep silent." While Adel went through check, the leader of the shadow team lead Kira to a hill over looking the city. "You see, there are bikes on a patrol on certain streets of the city. It is too risky to bring the tank in right now. My team can glide on in, but we need to think of an entry plan for you." He began to scan the enemy Nod forces. There mark was green instead of red. "Hmm...perhaps there is a way...but it requires you to kill one person. We should consult LEGION first, but...if we can kill the driver...or better yet, incapacitate, a driver of one of the Raiders, navigate the city with little trouble."

Astor entered the harvester quietly and put on the suit when prompt to. When they left the vehicle they started walking. "I don't see why he couldn't just give us a ride. Lazy bastard." He mumbled and looked at the tiberium around him. "Things so beautiful are so dangerous." He mumbled but, of course, his conversation was one sided. Once in front of the base Kim gave her identification and Astor did the same. "Astor Barrett." He said and it beeped green. "Alright, go ahead in."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Bonjour brothers." She said in normal tone, less enthusiastic than usual for too many brothers had been lost this day. "Come, we must keep silent." She gave a nod then listened to the layout and circumstances. When he mentioned kill she immediately shook her head. "No. Leave this to me. Too many brothers have died this day. Just watch." One of the gliders again suggested that they should consult LEGION. "No time." She said and pointed at the coming Raider about to pass by the hill they were on. Kira leaped off the small cliff side and landed with a small stumble but composed herself. She raised her hands and called out to the raider. "Heey hey!" Sensing no threat, the buggy slowed to a halt by her. The driver left the vehicle since it was difficult to converse. Kira switched on a voice decrypting device on her belt, part of the many techs she has on her. "Brother! I need your help!" The guy stood there stunned for a second but she was showing green. "I don't think-" "There's something I need to show you." He cocked his head. "I think I should report this and call for backup, then you can show us." "Wait, don't you like a dance?" "Wha?" She took a graceful spin and disappeared. The driver raised his gun and immediately reached for his radio but it was too late. A sharp pain on the side of the neck meeting the shoulder and he in the dirt. Kira reappeared and knelt by him. "I'm sorry if that hurt brother, but it will be worth in the end, I promise!" She moved to her own radio. "Shadow team, get down here and do something with him, if another scout sees him it's likely to cause a fuss." She said, her voice a little more high spirited. She moved over to the buggy and entered it. She knew how to drive it, not from experience but from tutoring from the many brothers and sisters she's talked to and rode with. They wouldn't be able to see her in the vehicle, the thin armor plating denied that and the windshield was small and also had portions of armor sticking out like that of a vent. "I need to know the guard routine so I don't look stupid going straight for the city." She reported and smiled. Driving this was exciting, fast and bumpy. The feedback gave her enough information and she was finally given the go ahead to enter the city. That's one in, now it's their turn. Kira kept on the 'schedule' as she awaited further orders.
"Well, we're in...let's see if there is anyone we know here." Kim concluded that any survivors would be taken to the infirmary, which would be in the armory structure. She lead Astor to it, and they went inside, quickly finding it. Kim quickly confronted the nurse. "Please tell me..do you have a Jacob--" before she could finish the name, she shook her head. "But I didn't get to finish." "The only one who has been admitted was that man, and his name is John. He was found in chains near the southern base. It's lucky we found him." Kim sighed, and lead Astor outside. "We need to find the Field Commander of this base. We have to find some way to get back to Washington..or at the very least be able to have a place to sleep."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The shadow team leader nodded, and approached the militant in pain. He produced a sedative from his belt, and jabbed i into his arm. "Sleep well brother, all will be good in time." When the militant was suppressed, he signaled the other shadows to follow, and they all activated their gliders, not before turning on Lazarus however, and started for the city, easily sailing over the structures. "Armed militants everywhere." He spoke. "The green they bear brings water to my eyes. Nod has forever flown red." "The Commando is getting into position. LEGION." He began to speak to the cyborg mind. "We are approaching the target. We must know what we do from here." "The capitol building has a rear entrance. However, intel reports militant squads do patrol around back there. You men do have the specialized weapons supplied by Kane, instead of your standard pistols." "Yes sir." The weapon was a special dart, which contained a paralyzing serum. It would be fired from their pistols. "Good. The sedation is instant, but like all, is limited. They will be concious, but paralyzed for approximately half an hour. Baird must also be shot with this weapon. After that is done, there is a truck waiting outside. Slip him inside, and drive out to the extraction point. Although, there is no real threat other than the heretic forces, the stealth will still need to escort the truck." "Roger sir." The first shadow team touched down behind the building. There, were three militant guards. One on patrol, two stationary. The leader instructed each man from his team to hit one...but they had to hold fire until the Commando arrived.

Astor nodded. "Alright. I don't believe this outpost has a command center so we go for the next best thing. They walked on to the little outpost beacon in the middle where a small command room was built in. "You better with the higher ranks. I'll let you do the talking." He said and patted his pockets and found the item of interest. He took one out and placed it where it belonged, in his lips. He felt around for a lighter but was unable to find it, his brother gave him that lighter too. "Damnit..." He moaned. He'll never see that lighter again. Suddenly he gasped and felt his back pocket and produced the silver lighter. "Yes." He tried to light it but it was bone dry on lighter fluid. "Ugh..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kira drove passed the green clad militants. Same uniforms just the wrong color. It made her sick but she'd have to live with it for the time being. She looked over and noticed a pair of sunglasses, they were big thick glasses. She placed them over her eyes and it practically looked like it was night. "He has the obnoxious shades, now where's the bubble gum.." She mumbled to herself with a smile. She felt around and then opened a side compartment, there was indeed bubble gum. She smiled and took a piece and unwrapped it. She then proceeded to roll the strip into a ball and put it in her mouth. She passed the capitol building acting as though there was no interest at all. Her objective was just a little off to the side, a small outpost command. In the layout there was four outposts in the city placed in almost a perfect square around the capitol building. This particular outpost had the triggers she needed. The buggy slowed to a halt. There was a few militants but nothing too bad. She left the vehicles and the militants seemed confused She flashed a brilliant smile at them as she walked up. "Hello brothers." They looked at each other and she understood why, they don't address other by their rightful siblingship. "Who are you?" One of them demanded. "Oops, sorry, I forgot." She smiled and took out a gadget and placed it to her voice. She started to speak but the voice came out more high pitched than her own. "Oops." She switched it over and tried again, a deep african american voice was next. "Well... This thing doesn't work how it used to. I'm Kira Loretta from the 14th ground recon, squad RF. I was told to run a personal check of all security systems because I heard talk on the north side of the base that there was a questionable sighting. You are to reinforce them." They looked at her blankly and she put her hand to her forehead. "Make haste brothers, for all you know we could be being attacked!" On that note they quickly darted off in the direction she told them. She didn't even think it'd work but hey, whatever works works. She entered the room and there was only one guy. "Excuse me, brother, may I make just a small modification here?" She asked and he did a double take. "Who the fuck are you?" "Brother, don't use such foul language! I'm trying to run an operation here!" She said with a wag of a finger. The man stood up and called out. "Guards, get this woman!" No answer. "Guards!" Kira sighed and did the same treatment with this man as she did when she retrieved the buggy. After he was out cold she sat in the seat he was originally in and began her magic. Soon enough loud alarms began to sound in one portion of the base. Already people could be heard moving to rendezvous with the northern groups. Satisfied with her work Kira left and tossed off the glasses, she was tired of being a bat. She entered the Buggy and made her way back towards the capitol building, ready to assist the shadow team.
The shadows waited anxiously, guns still trained on the guards. Unlike the others, the one in this building were not allowed to leave their posts, in case the threat came to their beloved Brother Baird. "Weapons aligned brothers." The leader whispered...before giving he order to fire at once. Each dart hit a different guard at the same time...and they went down paralyzed. "Come, hurry." The leader lead them through the open doors. The bottom floor seemed to be vacated of guards, as they approached the steps. The upper floor however, guards were on patrol. They didn't need to be dealt with now, but it would certainly help in getting their target out easier. The shadows training in ninjitsu would prove useful in taking them out, if the darts wore off of course. The leader hit one of the guard with a dart...which got the attention of the others. "What was that? Hey? You alright?" The sound of more silenced pistols, and one y one, each guard fell paralyzed. The leader's room was at the end of the corridor. He had two body guard however...and these were not regular militants...they were Nod's own Blackhand. The sight of them made the shadows wince. Their emblem of Nod...was the scorpion tail presented in front of a green background. Atleast the others kept it to the true brotherhood. These men however..have sullied it. One of the shadows raised his other pistol, the true one kill pistol. But his leader stopped him, and shook his head. "No! Kane order not to kill anyone. But yes...we must find a way to incapacitate them. The darts however won;t be able to get through their armor." The shadows looked to Kira. "Sister...tell us you have a plan."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay..." Kim studied the outpost...which was once the Surveyor. She knocked on the glass, and a woman looked at her from the inside, before stepping out. "Can I help you?" She said with a light southern drawl. Kim nodded. "Yes...are you the field commander?" The woman shook her head. "No, but I run this outpost. Whatcha need?" "Transportation to Washington." "What? But whatever why?" Kim bit her fingernail, and looked to Astor. "We...we're survivors from the base south from here. We have some crucial to tell General Granger." "Oh...I see. Is it about POWs? Saw the ion cannon strike...it was...something to swallow." "Is there a way you can help us?" The woman disappeared into the Surveyor's cab, for a few minutes, then came back out with a clipboard. "Yes...you see, an Ox drops of supplies here every week...and you're in luck. He's scheduled to come by tomorrow. We'll see if the pilot can give you a ride back to Washington." The other woman smiled at Kim. "I hope whatever you tell Granger can help get Boyle's ass out of the Commander in Chief's chair. Politicians have no right running a military."

Kira pulled up in front of the building, when she did she noticed the door open ghostly, Shadow Team was moving. She switched on Lazarus and entered after them, by this time everyone was already down. They could see each other faintly since their Lazarus' were programmed to do so. When they got to the hallway, Kira pulled the leader of the Shadow Team off to the side. "Okay, I'll get you guys into the room. I when you get the chance, dart Brother Baird, grab him and leave through the window. Here." She turned off her Lazarus, making her fully visible, then unstrapped it and handed it to him, the item disappeared as it went into his grasp. She knew they wouldn't be able to fly with Brother Baird but she was confident they would be able to glide down safely and that was a simple exit. "When you get Brother Baird, strap it to him and turn it on so you can get out undetected." She paused and put her hand on his blurred shoulder. "I trust you brother." She unholstered her gun and went around the corner.
Kira had her gun raised when she went around the corner, both Black Hands put their guns up defensively and she gasped and brought hers down. "Wait, brothers!" "Identify yourself." One of them commanded. "Kira Loretta from the 14th ground recon, squad RF." She said and they looked at each other then their flamethrowers lowered. "How did you get in here?" "All the guards downstairs are dead. Someone cut communications and I was sent to report sightings of a GDI Commando!" Both guys looked at each other, they whispered to each other and Kira couldn't make it out. "We're to stand here." One of them said and she shook her head. "Don't you get it? The commando got in, we think they came for Brother Baird. They could have jump jetted through a window and got him! Hurry!" She rushed them and instinctively they turned to the door behind them, opened both double doors and entered. Baird sat in his chair, alarmed at the sudden entrance. Both Black hands went by their leader protectively and Kira entered but kept the door open. She felt a wing brush her as one of the shadows entered. "Brother! We're under attack. A commando has slipped in!" She reported and he stood up. "What!?" "They've come for you, brother." He looked cautiously to his two Black Hands. "Wait... You fools! This girl IS the commando!" He shouted and Kira brought her gun up and fired twice. Two clunks and the flamethrowers' shafts fell to the ground, fuel began to leak but there was no fire. "Now, brothers!"
~~~~~~~~~
"His ass is going to be fried in prison." Astor mumbled with the cigarette still in his mouth. "You got a light?" He asked the woman and she said she didn't smoke. When the conversation was good and done he looked at Kim. "What now?" He asked as he put the unlit cig back into the package and returned both the lighter and the cigarette pack to his pockets.
The word was given, and two of the shadows struck each blackhand at a soft area of the armor at the back of the neck, stunning them. The leader fired the dart at Brother Baird's neck, which the paralyzed leader succumbed to the serum quickly. The three other shadows jumped out the windows now, gliding safely to the ground. Two stayed beneath the window, to catch their target, while the third rounded up the truck. The leader tossed down Kira's Lazarus first, then...careful heaved Brother Baird over. To Kira, this might have seemed like insanity...but this shadow team has performed this maneuver with a body before. The body reached the other two Shadows safely, as they used their own bodies to cushion his fall, and they strapped the Lazarus to him. They all disappeared, but the leader could see them running to the awaiting truck with the target. The leader then wrapped his arms around Kira. "Let's away, sister." He simply said to her, before he went out the window with her, turning his glider on at the correct moment. They landed safely, and made haste to the truck. When they were all strapped in, they started rolling. LEGION then came on the transmitter. "You've all done well. But now Kane has informed me that since Brother Baird is now in your custody, that anyone who gets in your way must be eliminated. If his followers somehow manage to find out that you have him, and try to take him, then you must fire back. Do not allow Brother Baird to escape our grasp." At that moment, an alarm went about the city, and one of the Blackhand's could be heard. "Brother Baird has been taken! Block off all exits from the city! They must not escape!" The Shadow leader looked over to Kira. "Sister, you must alert the Stealth Tank operator. This truck is unarmed...and they are sure to fire upon us if they see us try to leave. We need a diversion."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kim shook her head. "Guess this will be our home this night. Maybe we can get to know some people better. Gotta wonder though. Those three ion cannon strikes hurt Nod probably severely. I wonder if they are mounting a counter attack." Kim looked around. This base was in a nice spot. Surrounded by cliffs, snipers on the top of the ones by the entrance of this base. If only their base had been dug in as well as this outpost. The woman in the surveyor came back. "Hey...looks like, because the other base was destroyed...this outpost is going to get an upgrade. We won't be getting one Ox tomorrow...but a whole fleet. MCVs, Harvesters...extra soldiers..." She was clearly happy. "Hey, when you're done frying Boyle's ass, you're welcome to back here."

Kira waited while the leader ordered his men out the window. When it was her turn she embraced him and he jumped. She gasped but not out of fright, it was exciting then the wind slowed as the leader began to glide. They hit the ground and immediately went for the vehicle. She closed the back behind her. They had their orders. Kira frowned, she didn't want to kill any, they made be bad blood but they were still blood. The leader of Shadow Team gave Kira a request and she nodded and took out her radio. "Brother Adel. We've succeeded in extricating the subject." An explosion and the truck rocked. She looked out the back window, rocket bikes and buggies. "We have orders to use lethal force if they get in our way. Give them the brotherhood's wrath of judgment!" She felt a small fire in her heart as she thought of the green desecration they have inflicted upon the brotherhood's insignia. She opened one of the truck's back door and it seemed Shadow Leader did the same. Two quick shots from Kira and two bikes were tumbling in the dust without riders, one hitting a buggie making it swerve. "We've got to hold them off, brother!" Behind the pursuing buggies and bikes were scorpion tanks, they would never catch up though, so Kira wasn't worried. Another shot and another bike went down.
~~~~~~~~~~
Astor listened to the commander and nodded. "Seems about right. Now that our base was taken out this is likely the next target." He folded his arms and turned to Kim. "Are you sure you want to go to Washington? They might need our help if there is an attack. I'm sure Granger is doing all he can about Boyle's war crimes... But it's up to you. I'll follow you like I did in Argentina years ago." He gave a slight smile as he waited for her final decision.
The shadow leader was firing back as well..but he was worried. Bullets were flying everywhere...and if those rockets hit, this truck would be toast in no time. And all they could see was Kira. Then the idea came to him. "You!" He pointed to one of the shadows. "Strip Baird of the Lazarus." A second after he was ordered, Baird was visible once again. The leader took it from the shadow, and offered it to Kira. "They won't shoot if he is all they see! Let them remember who they are endangering!" Sure enough, when Brother Baird came visible, the bikes stopped firing, as did the buggies. They started to talk into their radios. And for a moment, it seemed like they wouldn't need to fire back...until the buggies began firing at the tires. Almost second later, both rear wheels were on rims. The shadows began firing back again, killing the buggy drivers, but the truck's handling and speed were greatly reduced. The bikes disengaged, so they could make room for more buggies. The shadow driving was doing his best to keep the truck on the road. "It's...getting...hot...back there." He managed to say. Four buggies arrived this time...they were starting to aim now...away from Baird, and for the void to his left. They knew someone was there. And they were about to fire, until A red trimmed Stealth tank appeared behind them. It fired two rockets at each from different missile racks. All four buggies became scrap metal, and the tank disappeared once more. Adel came on their radio. "I've cleared the road block, too. Good thing two...had a bunch of scorpions." Without much resistance, the truck and the tank safely left the city. where two Carryalls were waiting. The Stealth Tank glided ahead into one of them, while the truck boarded the others. The Carryall's started their ascent. LEGION then came heard to them all. "You've all done Kane well...and are invited to watch what he does with Brother Baird personally." The cyborg mind ended his speech there. The Shadow team hoisted Baird out of the truck, and made sure it was empty...before letting it fall out of the Carryall. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kim sighed. This was a tough choice. But then again...Astor was probably right. It seemed all of GDI was after Boyle now, he was making GDI seem like it stood for "God-Damned Idiots" rather than it's true meaning. Maybe...this thing for Boyle could wait. Besides, the Outpost Commander had cute toes. Maybe she could help Kim with a pedicure. She faced Astor and sighed, giving him a hug. "Okay...maybe we should stay. If Nod notices this place is being upgraded, they might attack with a big force. They'll need all they can get."
Kira couldn't fire, the Lazarus would be disrupted. It was fine if she were to do lighter things like punch, stab, or place things but when it came to shooting the field will temporarily go away much like the stealth tank. She just stood there, prone to being invisible. Soon enough they began to suspect and their guns went to her. She raised her gun cautiously. Suddenly a crash, she thought it was a fire and she shielded herself instinctively, but she moved her arms after a few seconds and noticed it was their death, not hers. She smiled. "Thank you, brother." she called into the radio. When all was done they were in the air again. She didn't feel bad about killing them anymore. They were heretics making a fool of the brotherhood. She couldn't wait to see what happened to the unconscious man next to her.
~~~~~~~~~
Astor crossed his arms as Kim thought. 'God, is she ever gonna answer?' He thought to himself. That is until she sighed and moved toward him. He unfolded his arms and she hugged him. He returned the hug. "Alright, then. In the meantime, lets walk around the outpost and get a feel for the landscape so we might get an advantage, okay?" She agreed and they took a stroll around the small outpost. Hopefully they'll build like crazy in the next couple days. This wouldn't last against a small invasion. After talking with some of the troops they learned that their arsenal was small, but they had two Mammoths ready, only one Predator though. "Man... It's bothering me." Astor suddenly said. "Someone got into the base like there was no defenses at all. If they infiltrated it then we had a weak point somewhere. Somewhere we don't have any checkpoints. If they spied on us, then it's like our whole identification and records are screwed up. Just what the hell are our commanders doing during all of this?"

Hours later, The Carryall touched down at Temple prime...and everyone who participated in Baird's capture was there. However...he was brought in unchained surprisingly....and even more surprising, he didn't put up a fight. "Kane is dead! He cannot possibly be here." As he was brought into the main room..a bald man faced away from them. Brother Baird's eyes widened in fright, as Kane turned around. "...Kane?" He said in disbelief. Kane didn't seem anger at all...and acted very friendly towards the captive. "A...Brother Baird. How wonderful of you to join us." He stepped closer to him. "I greatly loved how you could have turned nearly all of the Brotherhood on me. A very bold act in deed." "..Messiah, had I known..." "Ah! No need to beg for mercy, I don't want to kill you. I don't want that at all." He gripped Brother Baird's collar, and forced him to a podium. There was a button on the side, which Kane pressed. " Tell all who follow you the truth." Brother Baird, covered in sweat of fear, began speaking. "Brothers...I have mislead us all. I was blinded...by the sight of..opportunity, before the truth could be unveiled. "Kane...is still among us. The true Messiah! And...we must follow him again!" Kane then took over. "That is true, my Brothers. I do live. And I bring with us the tool to destroying GDI, and giving the world true meaning!" His face suddenly appeared on a giant monitor before them...which was likely, it was on every monitor connected to the brotherhood. "All...hail Kane." Brother Baird said after. "Drop your Banners of green...and reinstate our true colors." All who watched this were smiling. It seemed that Kane would be back in order very shortly. Though there were smaller Sects, Brother Baird had the largest control. Kane would deal with the others later...but now, the true threat, GDI must be dealt with. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LEGION contacted Kira personally. "You are required to take part in the next mission. GDI's loss of that base is surely a blow to them...but they are not truly out of this country yet. Spies have detected an outpost south of the one you just destroyed. The video feed was live from held cameras...however...the scouts did not make it back, as GDI snipers killed them. We have reason to believe they'll plan to reinforce this base, as it all the land they have hold of in Serbia now. An attack now might end them, but Kane just had his followers given back, and a heavy loss would surely threaten their loyalty to him. You must live under a persona again so that you may infiltrate this outpost. Have your engineer ID card ready. It seems security has been picked up a bit in this base."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kim shook her head. "All they can do..." She simply said. "What they are told. The outpost commander here...well, what can she do? Confined to this spot with limited men and resources. Her job might be to control tiberium growth..but she surely can't lead an offensive anywhere. This is Nod territory...DEEP Nod territory."
Kira watched when everything was set up. She smiled lovingly at Kane who was so sincere to Brother Baird. It was finished. She had renewed brothers to embrace and love. How she ached to hug them and know them. Unfortunately that event would not come just yet. When she had gone to her room to finally get some rest a screen blipped on beside her. The eyes of LEGION which had told her her next assignment. She nodded in agreement. "Yes, LEGION. I will go." Once the transaction was done she finally got some nice rest, she'll need it for what she was already planning.
Morning came and the Carryall made its landing about one-fourth of the way to the outpost she was assigned to, it was too far for anyone to have noticed. "You sure you want to be this far back?" She nodded. "I need to seem as if I've walked great distances or else they'll see through it. Don't worry brother. I will be safe." She walked over to the cockpit and gave the driver a hug. "Be safe, brother." "And you." He replied and she left. The sun was high. It was hurting her eyes but she started off, it's going to be a hot day today.
Countless hours passed and she stumbled a little. When she thought it'd make her act better she was wrong, it wouldn't be an act. The GDI lab coat she wore was dirty. She wore normal civilian clothes underneath, a blue collared t-shirt and some black jean pants, boy was she regretting those. On her feet were black boots like the ones she wore on the day, they were already dirty and worn. She began dragging her feet miserably about the time the sun began to set. Then it was dark and she was still trudging along, singing to herself for entertainment. She looked over the hill at the shimmering tiberium, it was beautiful in the moonlight. It had to be about 3 in the morning now when a bright light flashed over her. She smiled for joy and fell to her knees at the outpost's spotlight. "Thank you... Thank you lord!" She prayed as a Pitbull came out to meet her.
They interrogated her and she told them what she could, that she was from the base that was attacked and that she escaped. They asked how and she said there was a hole in the wall that was directed by a friend, they nodded. They then checked the ID in her pocket, that they had to find, and it came out good. They told her that there was two survivors. "I want to talk to them." She demanded. They shook their heads. "In the morning, you need rest before you pass out." She nodded faintly and then she kicked off her boots and took off the lab coat and was laid down to rest. The Commander would tell the two in the morning.
Astor nodded. "You have to admire her will to keep here though. She seems so calm despite what has happened and that she is now a likely target." They talked a little more then they decided to get some rest, both were tired from the day's ordeal.
Two days later someone shook Astor, it was Kim. She said that they found another survivor. "Okay, okay... Lets go see him.." Kim corrected him on the gender. Astor got dressed and followed Kim. They walked into the medical bay and a black haired woman was laying on the bed, still asleep. "That's Kira." He nodded. "Should we wake her?"
"Well...no...but.." Suddenly they saw Kira stir, and turn then finally, stretch. "She's waking up!" Kim said happily. She ran into the room, and threw her arms around the woman. She was so happy another person from their base survived. "I--I'm so glad you're well! Just the thought of us being the only survivors! I...I..." She bawled louder, and buried her face into her shoulder.
The Commander approached behind Astor. "She seems like a nice woman." She started. "Tell me...did you guys fight in the Second tib war?" She chuckled, didn't even let Astor answer. "Don't worry, I know you did. GDI soldiers who act like that around Assumed fallen comrades, means they were part of a seriously brutal attack by CABAL and his cyborgs." She quirked her mouth. "You know...that war was the only war on record where Nod and GDI beat aside their differences, forgot who was right or wrong...forgot about what they were fighting for. They realized they were all human, and needed to pull through this together. Kinda sad it took a threat of extinction from cyborgs to surface that, huh?" She scratched her side, then turned around. "Better oversee the operations some more. They've just put in a couple sonic emitters...and an AA gun. I'm going to feel so much safer with those installed. I mean, don't get me wrong. All the men at this base are better than any defensive battery...but it's nice to have those, you know?"
Kira's eyes opened half way to see a white brick wall. She let out a slight yawn then pushed herself up and went into a sitting position. Two blurry people were in front of her, one of them lunged at her. Kira winced a little when she found herself in an embrace. She recognized the woman and received her and cried herself, though softer than the other woman.
The commander moved behind Astor and started speaking. He was about to answer but she cut him off. She continued and he laughed. "Yeah... I think I liked life better when we were on the brink of extinction, but at least all of us humans were one at that point." He laughed and she scratched her head and turned. "Okay, just don't make more batteries than vehicles. That's what lead to our downfall." Suddenly he remembered that this wasn't his commanding officer and he should show respect. He quickly moved into a salute. "Ma'am." The second tiberium war made it a habit to salute superiors. The cyborgs were too strong and new commanders would be in charge constantly, you could never really be acquainted and most would demand the respect they deserved so him and Kim were Saluting half the time when they weren't busy fighting.
When the two girls were able to compose one another Kira withdrew from Kim. "I.. Was afraid I'd be the only one... I was afraid... They would find me." She said in between sobs. "What happened." Astor asked. "How did you escape?" "Before the whole ordeal... Jake took me to a hole in the wall that he made specially. He said he made it as a secret escape. He wanted me to know about it, he said the base was getting too relaxed... He feared it would end soon." She wiped her tired, wet eyes. "As if it were staged... The power plant exploded..." She paused to compose herself again. "He told me to run and hide, he said he was going back in to see what the cause was.. Then... A flame tank.." She stopped and put her hand over her mouth as she weeped. "I'm sorry... I was scared... I can't... I can't fight... I'm an engineer..... Not a soldier... I'm sorry... I'm so sorry." She cried. "I could have helped... But I was too afraid... Too powerless..."
The Commander smiled at the salute. "I know you two definitely fought in that war now. Don't need to salute me. By now, I hope you realized I'm a bit lax. But, I did bump up security a bit. I heard your base was destroyed from the inside out...gotta make sure everyone who gets in is GDI." Kim shook her head. "Nod caught us all with our pants down. We should not have relied so heavily on batteries. We should have had more man power. Just wish I knew how Nod weaseled their cultist scum into our base and destroyed our power..." She smiled and looked back at Kira. She'd not known her very long at all...but to her, she seemed like such a close friend. She planted a kiss on her forehead. "Come on! We should go see if there is anything to eat." Kira didn't seem to move. Kim was feeling very playful right now, seeming so much happier than she was the previous day. When Kira didn't budge, she squeezed the other woman's side, and ran a finger up her bare foot, tickling her. Kim was relentless if they didn't get out of bed when they were clearly awake. "Come on! Let's go!" She said very happy.
The Commander was happy to see the entire base construction was going over greatly. And the crew arrived with more men and vehicles. However..she'd grown attached to the survivors...mainly because they had come to her with something other than GDI business. She saw them heading out of their rooms, and she could help but run over to them. "Hey again!" She said chipper. "I don't believe I ever said this, but I'm Felicia Edel. Don't need to know my rank. As far as I'm concerned, that's just for people superior to me...err..rank wise. Not saying I'm better than you. Cause I'm not. I find us equal."
