While in the bath she had heard the phone starting to ring but the woman decided to ignore it for the time being and slowly submerge her head fully in water. If it was anything important they would leave a message. Hopefully with their name, number and possibly address.
Just incase sort of thing.
She contemplated on what to do next. It was about eight thirty pm after she dressed and blow dried her hair.
" Maybe I should phone Gerald. I really need a gay guy's opinion on my friendship problem" she muttered to herself. Yes even though she was erlatively young she began to talk to herself. But to Natalia it wasn't all that bad unless she began extenssively answered her own rhetorical quesitons.

"You're wife dresses like a hooker. How much do you pay her each night?" Was the first thing, Katrina heard from her mother-in-law, who had whispered in her son's ear. "Se's still a Racist, picking on me for that reason......and an old hag too..." She muttered. The two woman shot a glare at each other and pulled away. "Momma, Pops...behave." Richard laughed and the father-in-law chuckled. "I'm amigos with your Pappa, Katrina...I don't hold grudges and I'll behave."
Thank God, Pappa, said sorry...
They sat at a round table and everything was quiet. "So mom, Katrina got promoted---" "To what? Is she the top stripper in her nightclub?" Katrina smiled and laughed, trying so hard not to stick a knife in the woman. "No, ma'am. I'm an architect, remember? ...I get offered more complex projects now and often get special requests... I built the retirement home that you will happily live in five years. If not, I'll happily pay for you."
"I'm not getting old that fast!" The old woman stood up from her chair and leaned over, attempting to intimidate Katrina. "Well even fucking botox won't stop the wrinkles on your face." "Ladies! Sit down...It's time to order!" Richard shouted, pulling Katrina down as his father pulled his wife down. "So what would you like to order?" The waiter asked and Katrina sighed. "A one-way ticket out of hell..." Her mother-in-law glared. "I'll have a salad."

Yoko reached for the remote and clicked the power button. It was set to Animal Planet nearly all the time, except when she felt like watching the news. Yoko had always loved animals, she might have been a vet, had the coin she flipped hit tails. Looking back on that, she couldn't help but chuckle. "I can't believe this was all decided by a coin flip..." She said aloud, as her cat start to rub against her leg. She knelt down and picked him up, keeping him under her right arm, while opening the fridge with her left. "What's see what I can eat tonight?" she said to him in a playful tone. Some hotdogs, a half eaten plate of fish sticks, half a liter of Pepsi, and an assortment of other things she wasn't in the mood for. Disappointed, she closed the fridge, and opened the freezer hatch. Her mouth went into a quirked style, while she pulled out a microwave dinner. "Should have a hungryman." She said, imitating the commercial, but of course, switching some of the words. " Hearty chicken, corn, and a brownie. Great to add nonburnable fat to that average American belleh." Chuckling to her little joke, she put the cat down, and opened the frozen dinner. Putting a small slit in the cover, she put it in the microwave, and started the timer. While it began to cook, she looked to the phone. "Maybe I should..." Taking a breath, she went over to the phone, and dialed Natalia's number first. She could hear the ringing tone, but in the end, only got the machine. "Listen, it's Yoko." She began. "I can't express how sorry I am for earlier tonight...perhaps I was just not ready..but that aside, I'd love to try another get together...not soon of course...unless you know...right. So..if you're interested...perhaps you could call me back? My number is 787-3128. I'd like that alot, you know. See you around, Natty. -click-"
After putting the receiver down, she picked it up again to apologize to Katrina...but she soon realized she forgot the number. And she didn't catch the number she was off by. "Damn it..." She said disappointed, and looked to her cat. "A little support would be nice, you know." She joked with him.
Later that night, Yoko was laying on her bed, but not sleeping. Peering over at her digital clock, she groaned; 2:13am. This whole ordeal seemed to be interfering with her sleep. It was time to take action. She'd figure out Katrina's number by dawn. There were many possible combinations though. But in all reality, it was the four ending numbers that would be altered. The first three digits were usually the same of cell phones in the same area. And also, to narrow it down more, she'd only need to worry about numbers around that number. For example, if the number was 9, she'd only need to try the numbers 8 and 6. Taking the phone, she'd dialed the first number with an altered digit, and got a ringing tone. A man answered with a groggy voice. "Ugh...hello?" "Sorry to bother you at this hour, but do you know of a Katrina Lopez?" "What? Jesus, lady. You know what--" "Yes, sir. I know what time it is, and if you want to go back to bed, just simply answer the question." "No...I don't know one..." "Thank you. Have a nice night. -click-" Things went on like that for a couple more hours, most of the responses being the same as the first. Finally, she tried a certain alternated number, and it started to ring. When the ringer finally went to the answering machine, she smiled to herself. It was Katrina's number. She quickly saved that number into her phone's memory, and left a message for her. "Hey, Katrina. It's me Yoko. Listen, I know I said something to you earlier that may have offended. I'd like to make it up to you one of these days. Please, just call me back whenever you would see fit. I'd really appreciate it...and it would mean a lot to me.-click-". She'd only hoped that didn't wake her up,and she'd listen to it tomorrow in the daylight hours, for, waking her up at this hour might just widen the rift more.

"I'm surprised she didn't spill the pot of tea on me...and I'm surprised that I didn't spill any coffee... Your mother is really hostile...Maybe I am too...but I can't help it...She insults me, I insult back...all in a matter of self defense, baby..." Katrina was tired and was lying in the back seats of the car. "Aw baby...You must'av had a day. Business and my mom. Jeezus, you were busy today!" Katrina gave out a small, quiet laugh. "...When we get home..." She yawned and they drove home.
Katrina woke up on the floor with all the blankets on top of her. She had fallen off the bed and had took the blankets with her, and rolled into a warm ball. "...Yes...Really busy night, ha ha...Richard...." The woman stood up and wrapped the blankets around her body, looking for clothes. She had picked up Richard's white shirt and her pink Pj's and decided to wear them. "Good morning, baby." Her husband greeted her as she walked down the wood stairs bare-footed. This morning was a little chilly, so she had wrapped a small blue blanket around her.
"Sleep well?" "Hell yes... Do you know where I put my phone?" Richard placed a plate of pancakes in front of her and nodded. "On the couch. Why do you always check for calls? You're too serious about work and I swear...you hardly hang with any of your friends...You even missed your own god child's birthday for a meeting...Life isn't about all work...and just working harder won't do anything. You'll kill yourself if you keep on thinking the only way is to work." Katrina smiled and winked. "But if you don't work then you don't get anything done...But this time it isn't for work and its for something else...I'm hoping on calling an old friend actually. Shoot, if its another request I'm turning them down again."
When she had turned on her phone and dialed her voice mail number, the first thing she heard was, "Hey, Katrina. It's me Yoko. Listen, I know I said something to you earlier that may have offended. I'd like to make it up to you one of these days. Please, just call me back whenever you would see fit. I'd really appreciate it...and it would mean a lot to me.-click-".
She dialed the number and realized how early in the morning it was, so she didn't expect Yoko to even answer. "...Wow...It's funny how it took this long for us to fix things...I'd like to make it up to you too...It's too early...Richard...didja clear all the beer?" Katrina asked her husband and he replied telling her that it was all gone. "...Errkay...There goes my plan of getting courage from a bottle...or four..." She turned on the sports channel again and looked up at the ceiling. "...I don't feel like going for gas. Can you drive me a few places?"
It was around eleven, when Katrina decided to call Yoko. By this time she had taken a bath, and changed into a blouse and slacks. She had a special meeting she needed to go to today and for the project of making a few buildings for commercial use. She needed to be at the meeting at one, so she had the time to call Yoko. She looked down at all of her calls, and redialed Yoko's number, hoping that the woman would pick up.
"I also hope Natalia gets my call and calls back sometime..." She thought out loud, while she waited.

After the luxurious hot bath she dried her hair and turned in to bed. Wasn't much point in staying up really.
Seven and a half blissful hours later the phone rang. Groaning from the damn annoying phone, one hand slipped out from under the covers and fumbled around for a few seconds before she clicked the green button.
" Hello?" the fair skinned woman groaned out. " Natalia!", boy did this guy ever sound angry. " Where the hell are you? I've been waiting at the cafe for almost ten minutes and your still not here. If you didn't want to do it then you should have cancelled" the man, she couldn't quite identify, fumed. And the phone rang dead.
Shutting off the phone she turned over and fell alseep again.

"Cerebral hemorrhage? But...all the signs point to death by asphyxia." Yoko was in conversation with her supervisor, discussing the little mistake she had made. "That isn't what the other doctors say, Yoko. Blunt force trauma was the cause of death here. Some thing is going on with you. You've never been wrong before. You need to tell me what is going on, and do not deny it. I used to be a therapist, you know. I know something is wrong." The older male took a seat at his desk and motioned Yoko to have a seat as well. "Trust me. You must get whatever it is out of the way as soon as possible. We're talking about your job here." The Asian woman sighed, and nodded. "I know Gil. It is something I need to settle. But I don't think it will blow over easy." "And why is that?" He straightened out his glasses. "Several years ago, I had made friends with two very wonderful people...we were almost sisters...." The woman explained everything to him, as he showed taking in this information by nodding. Yoko finished it up."And now...after all that, we're trying to get back together...and to tell you the truth, it is getting to be my primary focus right now..."
The supervisor removed his glasses and placed them on his desk. Running his hand through his thick grey hair, he came up with a response. "In world war 2, after the bombing of the Japanese cities, the bad blood between the United States and Japan burned for a while, even during peace time. Even so, the United States did try to make up for it. By helping the Japanese fortify their towns to protect from possible Communist invaders, taking in young men and women to help us understand them better, helped rebuild the cities they had destroyed, and even compensated for the holding camps they had placed Japanese-American citizens into. Eventually, it all paid off, right? Now the two countries trade amongst each other, scientists work together, and, I don't mean to target your nationality, but you wouldn't have come here otherwise, correct?" He clapped his hands, and stood up. "Despite what I said earlier, you should take your time with this. But remember, while the United States was helping rebuild its relationship with Japan, that they were doing other things for themselves as well. Put simple, I am saying to do what you can to repair this...but do not focus all your attention on it. We really enjoy you on the team, and well...it would be a shame if you were fired."
"Thank you sir." Yoko said greatly and with a smile. "But...I'm still at a loss at what I should do." Gil tapped his chin for a moment and said "I don't usually grant things like this, but...why don't you take a small vacation I'll give you four days. Give you a little head start on your road to recovery. But after those four days. I want One-hundred percent from you. Got it?" "Yes sir." "Okay...be on your way then."
Yoko retired to the locker room, and as she was about to leave, her cellular phone began to ring. Taking a peek at caller ID, she was happy to see it was Katrina. "Hello?" she answered, hastily.

"Um, yeah Richard...Come back home soon. I need you to drive me somewhere later. And for the love of goodness, fix your tie..." Then there was the sound of a door slamming. Katrina picked up her phone and sneezed one of her small little sneezes that everyone used to make fun of. "...I should wear another jacket next time..." She muttered, putting the phone right next to her ear. "Hello? This is Katrina Lopez speaking. This is Yoko, right?" Katrina already knew it was her, but she made it a habit to ask people.
"Yoko...Well...I'm sorry for what I did yesterday. I shouldn't have said anything I knew wouldn't work and I shouldn't have walked out. I was acting like a little kid...and that really wasn't smart. You see...I want to fix what happened and what I did to you. I...I would like to treat you to a lunch or meal...or something. Anywhere and anytime. Even that expensive restaurant we use to go to. You know, the one where you two always made me pay? Because you didn't bring your checks, or left your cards in the car, or just gave it to me because I was youngest..." Even though her memory wasn't the best of memories, she laughed. Every time the receipt went past 100 dollars, Yoko and Natalia found ways to make her pay, but she was alright with it and didn't mind. The meals were always good and it was fun to spend time with them.
"...We started bad, but can we start up again...and make everything better, Yoko? I believe if we keep like this...we'll just be making that sad bastard happy in hell. He'd still be smiling his idiotic smile...even when he's below us...so...why don't we try and fix this? Please?" Katrina sat on her couch and thought of what she was saying. At first, she thought that she didn't want to be friends with them or even try to fix anything, but now, she realized how much she missed them and how much she missed the old days.
Katrina sat there, waiting for her reply. "I'm sorry." She said, "I'm sorry for what I did to you, and I hope that you can forgive me...and I'm sorry for threatening to light your bed on fire..." She said the last part quickly and then continued, "I hope... that one day, you'll be able to forgive me..."

The jolting sound of the blaring alarm clock startled the woman. ' Jesus Christ!'. She clung her hand to her heart for a few minutes as her body began to slow it's pace down. She glared at the alarm clock with a fiery hellbent passion. " I hate you". She drug herself into the bathroom, turning on the shower as she began to undress. She entered the shower and began lathering the bodywash in her lufa. Making small circular motions down her body. The hot water pelting on her body felt better then any spa treatment she ever recieved. "Heaven is a hot shower...." she sighed with content. "....and an equally hot man".

Yoko smiled as she heard her old friend babble on about what happened years ago. It was nice to remember good moments, always outshines the bad ones. She only chuckled when Katrina came to apologize over and over. "Kat...don't worry about it. We're just moving too fast..you know? It's like a date with a guy...not one like Justin of course...but...Ha, nevermind. Let's try to bring him up little as possible." She tapped her chin a couple times before thinking of what to say. "That expensive restaurant, huh? You mean the Red Lobster? Haha. I still think it is funny you remember that." She quickly rushed to her own defense on the earlier comment, it itself being a joke of course. "And..just so you know. Natalia was the one who was always forgetting the checkbook. I'd of paid for it several times. They just never took debit."
Yoko looked over at the otherside of the lockeroom. People were hugging, congratulating eachother on solving a case or bringing in suitable evidence. Yoko wished she could do that with her two best friends again. "Listen..." She spoke up once more. "I forgive you. You don't need to feel guilty about it. Besides...my bed was lumpy and cold anyway...maybe you should have burned it. Haha..." "Well...I'd love to get back with you sometime...perhaps sometime soon? My boss just granted me some leave. He's a wonderful guy. You should meet him sometime. Err...anyway...thanks for the call. Oh...and if you call to apologize to Natty...please send her my apology, too?"

"I will...I'm open..." She sighed when she remembered that she had no current projects. Mendoza had taken most of them. "...I'm open anytime." She said in a half happy and half sad tone. "Well... Do you..." Katrina stopped. "Oh, nevermind. I'll see you anytime soon...Tell me when." She waited for Yoko's reply before saying good bye and hung up. She stood up and walked over to the kitchen counter.
"Ok...Kit Kat..." She repeated her father's words, "you can do this." She dialed Natalia's number again, afraid that she wouldn't want to speak to her. "This is scarier than ma's burritos..." She muttered, just after the second ring. Her hands tapped on the kitchen counter and she constantly turned to glace at the fridge. "Please, please pick up...Even if you yell at me...Oi..."

She was searching at the bottom of her closet for a certain pair of shoes. Even labeling, stacking, hanging, pretty much anything didn't help organize this woman's shoe collection. " God dammit!" she cursed. They had to be here. They just had to. They were these vintage inspired shoes she got just before college. Katrina, Yoko and herself bought them more or less as part of a Halloween costume. They were these 1920's movie starlets. Yoko at the time had her hair short so she did a Bob hair style, Katrina was mide ranged so it was an elegant up do and herself was left flowing down her back; ringlets, curls and waves.
Fustrated she gave this gargled yell, her hands closing into fists. A moment after when peace reigned over the closet there was the phone ringing. NON-Fucking stop.... rolling her eyes she travelled to the phone sighing.
Picking up the phone she answered. " Hello Natalia speaking, how may I help you?"

"I'm sorry, Natalia. I didn't mean to call at the wrong time..." Katrina said, before putting her thumb in her mouth to bite it. Before she started drinking, she had a habit of biting her fingers, or anything really, when she was nervous. "Natalia..." She began, with her thumb still in her mouth, "I'm sorry for what I didn't do yesterday and what I did do. I shouldn't have walked out on you just like that...shows to you that I still run like a little kid." Her words came out funny because her thumb was still in her mouth, but Katrina didn't seem to notice.
"...I want to make it up to you. Maybe I'll treat you to lunch, even Red Lobster. I promise I'll pay without complaining this time. Besides, I think...when we last went Yoko paid and it should be my turn now, right?" She paused and thought for a moment. "Yoko says...she's sorry for what she did yesterday...and we both hope that our actions are forgivable... It's just...it's hard seeing each other after so long. I don't know..."
Katrina found herself moving over to the fridge to look for something to drink. "Apple juice...Soy Milk...Orange juice...Red Bull...Damn...he really did clean it out. Damn him..." She sighed and started to speak again, "So...what do you say? Forgive and forget? Y'know so...we can start up better? Or atleast try..."

" Katrina. I don't blame you for running. It was akward and certainly forced encounter. I am always willing to forgive you two. At least now, maybe becoming older makes all these little fights or escapes seem less ... dramatic then before. They appear trivial when you see the larger picture, but I insist on paying my way for the restaurant charge. If it the bill is more then a hundred dollars then it'll be on me".
Even though words were coming out of her mouth, she didn't quit comprehend what was actually taking place. It was foreign and dangerous. Like an adventure that could possible have a fatal ending.
" I'm sorry as well. If you have a place, a set date and time I will certainly meet you or Yoko there. I'm sorry hun but I have to go now".

Katrina scratched her head. "That's good to know...Don't worry about the bill...I need to spend the money I have on things that make you feel good. Hehe. Beer should not be one of those things..." She didn't know what to say next and really wanted to just stay silent. It was hard for her to try to fix broken friendships and talking to Natalia and Yoko made her feel a bit awkward.
"I'm sorry as well. If you have a place, a set date and time... I will certainly meet you or Yoko there. I'm sorry, hun, but I have to go now."
"I'll be the planner and set it all up. I'll call both you and Yoko later to talk about the planned meeting. I hope we can work this out something. Ok. Thanks. Bye." Looked at the time and bit her lip. Richard would be back in a while to pick her up. "My...How life goes on..."

Two days later, in the evening hours, Yoko stared at her reflection in the mirror, trying to catch any flaws in how she would present herself. The date was scheduled for this very night, and she wanted to look her best for this occasion. From her wardrobe, she selected black satin dress. It looked like the one she wore during her orchestra performances. She giggled remembering that time, as she tied a black ribbon around her neck, to go with the dress. She approached her nightstand, and began ruffling through her drawers, so frantic that she did not even both to close the ones that yielded nothing. Finally, on the bottom drawer, she took out two nylon stockings. They were fairly dark, but only so a dark brown tint would be seen on her legs and feet. She slipped the first one on her right leg slowly, trying to not tear or rip it on the rough ball of her foot. She repeated the process with her left foot, and pranced happily to her shoe closet. Like most women, she had many shoes, so she might take some time sorting through them. "These ones? Nah...oh! These look nice...but they won't go with my dress..." Meanwhile, her cat seemed to stare in awe, wondering what it's crazy master was doing. She had finally decided on the 4 inch black stiletto pair, although she hated walking in heels, discomfort should be overlooked, if meant getting back together with her old friends. Finally, she approached the bathroom, to put her make-up on. She started with foundation, making her face seem less withered, although at 26, she didn't need to worry too much on that. She then lined both her eyes with the black eyeliner, emphasizing her eyes more. Then, she added green eye shadow to her list of beauty products. The mascara was last, curling her eye lashes. She finally felt she was ready, and taking the shoes in her her hand, she left her apartment, heading to the ground floor and the parking garages. Walking in stocking feet on the pavement felt uncomfortable, so when she made it to her car, she was overjoyed. She started up the little black sedan, and check her phone, which had the reservation information. "Party of 3, under the name Musagi...at the Nautical...at 8:30." She checked her car clock; 7:50. "Wow, ready in just an hour and 10 minutes. I hope I didn't rush." The black sedan pulled from the curb, and departed in the direction of the restaurant. If she remember correctly, the plan was to meet and park in the dirt area just off the restaurant's parking lot, so they could meet up easier. Although...thinking of it now, parking in the dirt, would be no fun to talk through. She chuckled to herself, before returning her attention to commuting.
