Alecs approached the children and sat in front of them, examining them and waiting to be attacked with their hands trying to pet him. He got along well with children and even cats. The dog was never one to chase them, or the post office worker, but still, the poor delivery man always ran. After a few minutes of staring, Alecs found a nice spot near the children and lowered his body to the ground to rest.
Lana coughed and yawned. When this all began, she remembered waking up to her husband's yells and him tossing her his pants to wear. She had gotten dressed in a hurry, afraid of wasting time, which explained the men's sized pants a normal gray shirt. He protected her with his life, but he died too early for her satisfaction. "..." She glanced at Alecs and picked up a first aid kit she had found.
She turned to the children and gave them a warm, reassuring smile. "Alecs is a good boy. He's a good baby boy and won't hurt you and will do the opposite. Like a guardian angel, I s'pose. He likes kiddos and loves to be around them too. Don't worry kiddos, everything will be alright. Alecs and I will make sure of that...promise? My baby boy and I will keep the promise, y'know." Lana extended her pinkie to the children and she had Alecs do the 'shake hand' trick, or however you called it. "Pinkie promise and paw promise? And I'll cross my heart and hope to...errr...not die."
...They're hurt...but I can't fix it.

"Listen." A young male's voice broke into the hunting shack. "We don't want any trouble.. We just want some ammo.." Three weary survivors all pointed their guns, low on ammo, at the shopkeeper who returned their aim with a shotgun. Two of the survivors were male the other a female. One seemed to be a cop and another a plumber. The third stood hesitantly, her read outfit making her more of a target than anything else. 'Two shots..' She thought to herself. The cop nodded to the plumber, they knew they had the upper hand, or so they thought. They recklessly began forward. 'Idiots!' The female thought and quickly took cover. "Stay back!" The bursky shopkeeper shouted as he fired, the spread shot hitting both of the guys. They both fell. "Shit!" The female shouted. "Your last warning missy, leave now or I'll blow you away!" The woman sighed at the man's last warning. 'I'd have a better chance at him than the zombies..'
"Wait, mister." Eddy put his arm on what seemed to be the man voted most to take charge in the situation. They had already reached the roof by means of the shaft. "Where are you going?" He continued. "There's someone I have to get back to the security room.. He may be the only one to know what the hell's going on." He explained and Eddy nodded. "Let me come with you." The man seemed to turn to Eddy then give a slight nod. He reached for a gun in his back holster and handed it to Eddy. "You know how to use this?" He asked and Eddy shook his head. "Not really." "Heh.. Just point and shoot.. The safety is here, it's on." He said, pointing it out. Eddy nodded and turned it off, what else could he use, a bat? "I'm Brad by the way." The man spoke up, holding out his hand to shake. Eddy accepted. "Eddy.." He said as they signed their official aquaintance. They both continued through an elevator...
After letting the kids with Lana a bit, Natalie approached the others. "Food and weapons are one thing.. But we'll also need medical supplies.. I can see alot of us getting injured.." She informed them, she was willing to go out and get them, she had someone to find anyways. The kids looked up at the woman then eyed the dog. The little girl looked about 9, the boy around 6 or 7. "I.. M-miss .. m-momma.." The girls half sobbing voice broke in. They didn't flinch to do the pinky swear, or pet the dog, they were still very shaken, the boy didn't even seem capable of talking in his state.
(Thought I'd add Alyssa... Frank and Alyssa, both wanting their scoop and being very territorial about it... Should cause an interesting effect.)

"Carly! No!" "No! It's too late for her! keep running!" He barked. the bastard. "I can't stay here! Either you leave her, or you die with her!" He stomped off. "Jesus I hope- damn it, GET OFF H- dear Lord please save us..." Brandon picked up a large potted plant and started bashing the zombies away. By now, Eugene was out orf sight. "Carly! CARLY!" with a mighty blow, he cleared the way and picked up the lacerated woman. Running away from the massing group, Brandon jogged down the same way Eugene took, hoping he knew where he was going. He made a left, a right, bee-lined through a store, Brandon n longer knew where he was, just knew that he needed first-aid supplies. fast. Carly was losing touch with reality, now stringing in together words that made no sense, and slipping in and out of conscious. He found the customer service booth and lay down, flopping on the ground, all his strength suddenly gone. Carly was babbling incoherently, but Brandon found a small first-aid kit. "It's probably just shock" he told himself, "she'll heal up just fine..." gingerly dabbing antiseptic onto her wounds, being especially careful around her slightly swollen abdomen "You both will be fine..."

Carmen was still surprised to see he had made it, thought he had died with the rest of the team. When he put her in the half hug, she nearly squeezed his lungs out. "I'm so glad you're alright." Everyone was moving to help keep everything in order. Perhaps they should help out as well. "So food is all we need now." She knew there was a grocery store in this mall, she had a peak at the panel maps strewn about the place. The only issue, was she didn't really know her way around. Eugene would always talk about coming here with his girlfriend, and buying the biggest things he could find for her. He must've memorized the place by now. "Earl, there is a grocery store here, isn't there?" She asked him. -Who'd put a grocery store in the mall anyway?- she thought aside herself.

This wasn't anything new to her. Children always cried for their supposedly dead parents at the hospital. Every time it happened, it always saddened her and at times she went over to help comfort the children. She never liked it when little kids felt so sad and so hopeless. At times, she would just sit there, trying to help them calm down, and one time it took almost five hours for the child to calm down. In those five hours, she sat with the kid through the whole thing and told him that everything would be fine. She even offered to buy him a teddy bear. Lana hated to see kids like this.
Lana crawled over to them, with her pinkie still raised. After she knew that they weren't going to do the pinkie swear, she lowered her finger and sighed. "You lost your momma, baby girl?" She asked and then turned to the little boy.
Could he be the girl's brother?
"My God, I'm so, so sorry, baby girl. I'm so sorry.." The girl's tear filled face made her feel even more down, and finally, she pulled the two into a tight, warm hug. "Go ahead and cry, baby girl. It's OK to cry and its OK to miss momma. My god...I'll protect you two with my life and I'll be here for you. I promise with my whole heart and soul, kiddos. I'll take care of you..." She whispered into their ears. "I won't let you get hurt...cross my heart and hope to die."

Drawing back her hair out of her eyes the woman took a deep breath. 'I'd best make these two shots count.' She thought to herself as she exposed herself a second and fired off a round. It missed. The man also took a shot, more aimed than the woman's but he hit nothing but her cover. The woman cursed aloud and the man chuckled at it. 'One more..' She thought to herself and took another deep breath and quickly shoved herself up and fired again. The bullet barely missed, it seemed the other man missed as well. The woman was now helpless, no bullets, no help. Suddenly a handgun slid by her. The plumber lay bleeding and staring at her. She nodded. She checked the bullets, 13 shots, almost a full clip. She smirked, now there was room for a victory, but he still had the advantage with that shotgun.
The elevator led the two into a warehouse. There were alot of boxes that probably had some useful things, but browsing wasn't the time. Whoever this man Brad was looking for might be in danger. They both continued back into the mall. "So many..." Eddy mumbled, looking upon the great crowds. "I think it's more crowded than it is when hell isn't flowing over." Brad only shook his head then they ran through the crowds with a strange easyness until they were out crossing leisure park.
Natalie looked at Lana with the kids. She sighed in relief. 'Thank god I don't have to take care of them by myself.' She praised the woman mentally before turning back to the problems at hand. "A grocery store? Yes.. there is one.." She said then smiled. "I think they had a drug store there too.. Perhaps I could go with you two and grab some medical supplies." She sounded anxious. The kids accepted the woman's hug. The girl cried freely but the boy was quiet, yet still having tears river from his eyes.

"I'm making a supply run, if anyone would like to tag along, feel free to come." He knew that no one would volunteer, but nonetheless, it seemed worth asking. the only person he was confident would come was tending to something around the corner. "She'll come later," he mumbled, and clanked through the vent. Coming to the roof, he made a left, and a right, to a door that seemed almost forgotten. He stepped inside, onto a small catwalk. "Eddy! Brad! Oh well..." he shifted his gaze to an object laying not thirty feet away, across a maze of shelving. "Damn it... I need something to fight with.." walking back outside, he took the elevator on the opposite side and began rummaging through the boxes. "There's gotta be something useful in this hell hole, right?" he picked up a metal pipe and strode into Paradise Plaza.

Carmen quirked her mouth, seeing Eugene leave without saying much of a word. He'd make really good father at least. "Well, you're welcome to come with me..." She told Natalie. She reached for the shock baton on the desk, and put it back on her belt. Studying Natalie for a moment, and she could tell she was unarmed. "If you're going to come with me, you might want something to keep you safe." The riot officer took Natalie's hand, and placed a handgun of the Beretta family into it. The safety was on, and housed six metal bullets; half a magazine. "It's not much, but I can't offer much else." Carmen was trained in close quarter combat, so she'd be fine with the baton. "But first..." Being a security office, a map of the entire building had to be in here. Sure enough, on the western wall, was a paper map. She took a good look at it, and groaned. It was practically on the other side of the mall. "Well...we better hurry." She hopped into the vent, and managed to hear a sound of movement a bit far off. It had to be Eugene. She followed his path to the "t", and not a few moments after him, dropped into the same room he did.

After minutes of holding the children, her hand went up and wiped the tears from their little faces, with a smile. "Alright. I'm guessing you guys might be a little tired, huh? I saw a long bench type thing over there. It's green and you guys can lie on it. It's quiet and I bet you can just rest or something. If you two happen to fall asleep, I'll wake you up if there is any food. Oh and tell me if you two get or have any boo boos...I'll heal you and you'll be all better." Lana stood up and extended her hands to the two, so she could lead them to their little bed.
"My name is Lana Lee and I'm a Nurse. And my baby boy is named Alecs." When she said his name, the dog barked and circled the children. He circled them three times and laid his body down on the ground to roll over and onto their feet. He wanted to play with them, but it was obvious the children weren't in the mood. He stared up at them with bright eyes, before rolling off of their feet and sitting quietly next to Lana. She laughed and then ended with a sigh. "Call me whatever you want. Whether it be Lana, Lee, Nurse, lady, or anything...I don't mind too much, so it's ok...Maybe later you two can tell me your names...but enough about that. I need to show you where the chair is. "
She waited for them to either grab her hand or give her a signal. When she saw that, she lead the two out of the room and to the green seats she was talking about. "You kiddos stay here...I can stay here with you, but I think I should head out too. I think I should help with getting medical supplies..." Lana was unsure of what to do. She wanted to stay inside this safe place, but she wanted to help people out. She wondered if she would be a hindrance to the others if she went with them. She was an Nurse, and wasn't much of a fighter. Maybe it would be best for her to stay...

The two exchanged a few more stray shots. The woman counted the shells he was wasting, she had an advantage over him, 13 shots were better than 7. From the looks of it he already wasted a good 4 of his shots but who knew how much luck she was going to have dodging the rest of the shots, her cover wasn't looking too good, after all it was only a display case with empty guns in it. She looked across the room to see another display case, perhaps she could use that up since her current one was about to give in. She slowly edged herself to the side. A simple jump, that's all that was needed. She closed her eyes and took a leap, firing two rounds quickly as she barely made to the other display case. The man shouted, with a small peek the woman noticed he had been hit in the arm, but it wasn't time to celebrate yet.
Both Brad and Eddy had made it to the food court. "Just here, then through Al Fresca.. Then to the front entrance where he was." Brad explained and Eddy nodded. 'Could it have been that guy in the gates trapped in that shop?' Eddy questioned himself as they both continued forward into the food court, not expecting that they were being tailed by someone.
Natalie nodded and gazed at the handgun. "I never thought I'd see myself shooting at people.." She murmered with a sigh then continued with Carmen into the vents. She felt a little uncomfortable being as clostraphobic as she was, but it wasn't that bad. Suddenly they were out into the roof. "I think your pal left us.." She mumbled as the elevator could be seen just closing. When Natalie got to the elevator she pushed the button then leaned uncomfortably against a wall to wait for it to return.
The girl took the nurse's hand gratefully. The boy didn't move until the girl bent down and grabbed his hand. They both found themselves following the woman, what else could they do?

They slept in peace for that small time. Carly's shallow breathing accentuated by Brandon's own short, ragged ones. At the very least, it had a door, so a barricade was unneeded, a chore in which neither of then could have done, one being semi-conscious, and the other with , seemingly too little strength to move. on the flip-side, it was a five foot long, three foot deep whole in the wall. Not necessarily five-star. With a bloody tennis shoe jammed in his rib, he began to reason a way out of this. He looked over the counter. It isn't that he expected anything to change... just clueless zombies roaming nonchalantly, but looking for variations in this pattern is the goal. "Nothing but an old guy shaking a cane in the air, rambling behind a shutter..." he breathed to his partner.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
A quick glance around. Nothing in particular wrong. Some zombies noticed him and shuffled his way, but thus far it was quiet. He looked at a map he had folded up in his pocket and put ""his" watch back on. "There is nothing here," he said, shoving the piece of ratty paper back in his breast pocket, "that's worth a damn right now..." he swung the pole and drew another tick on his shoulder. he'll add that to the count later. Scouring the area, He could find only a few small first-aid kits behind some of the shop counters. Coming back towards the elevator, almost calm this run has been done so many times before, he picked up a soccer ball and cleared the way to the door. Thus far, He hadn't seem anyone that took him up on his offer... which was weird. "Final count. 2 giant stuffed bears. 15 CD's, and a player. and 3 'second-aid' kits that would only help someone that tripped and scraped a knee." he repeated several times before hearing footsteps behind him. "Carmen? Lana? Otis? Hello?" he drooped his things and readied for a fight.

The elevator came up, and they boarded. This seemed to just be an access lift between two floors, maybe a way to transport heavy supplies between the stories, so the only way to go was down. Pressing the button, the doors sealed in front of them, and it began to descend. "You know...I'm still wondering how this could have possibly happened. I mean, there is no such thing as magic...how can this whole "back from the dead" thing be happening. The doors opened, and she stepped out. "Carmen? Lana? Otis? Hello?" Seems they got the jump on Eugene. "Yeah, Earl. It's me. I brought another with me, she wants to help gather medical supplies from Seon's."

"Go to sleep guys. See you in a few...Don't go out of here." She smiled at them, finally decided that she would go find a few things. Lana walked to where everyone had gone through and looked inside. She laughed nervously and stepped back a bit. "...I've climbed through these before...I remember high school." She gulped and approached the opening, but Alecs had jumped through the opening and turned to face her, growling. "Baby boy, step off, now, and get out'av the way..." When she finished saying this, her dog turned and ran further down the vents and she cursed.
Lana crawled through the opening and followed the sound of her dog's steps. Finally, she saw an opening of light and crawled toward it. "Oof. Shit...Owww...." She fell out of the vents and onto the rooftop. Lana slowly stood up and looked around, whistling and calling for her dog. "Alecs! Alecs! C'mere, baby boy!ALECS!"
After a few more minutes of screaming, she finally gave up and decided to look around the rooftop for something to use. Lana couldn't find anything, but she did go to the edge and saw an army of the walking dead. "Oh god...Jesus. Am I really sure that I want to go down there alone?" She asked herself, pressing the down button on the elevator. "Alecs."

When the man had realized he had been shot he grew beserk and fired what's left of his rounds hitting absolutely nothing. When he frantically went to reload the woman hopped up and fired at him, before long the man drew his final breath. "..Crazy.. Prick.." She said then looked at her two allies, they both were alive but badly injured. "Kevin, David.. You two... Are morons." She said casually as she walked up to give them a hand behind the table so they could rest at ease. "Thanks.. Alyssa.." The cop who seemed to be the one named Kevin murmered. She just gave them an overconfident smirk. She then flipped out a small digital camera and took a picture of the guy. "This'll look great. Easy story for me.. No competition. Heh. I'm going to rich after this." She gloated.
There were not many zombies in the food court, they were just beginning to spread around, they had not gotten this far yet, with the exception of a few. Suddenly a burst fire from what was an obvious high powered machine gun bursted off. But the person wasn't the best of shots. The two ducked behind a side and peeked over at what seemed to be a spanish, or mexican attacker. But the man moved on a crane and was off after his failed attempt. "Who the hell was that?" Eddy asked, still half startled. "I don't know.. Maybe he thought we were a zombie." Brad replied but after exchanging a few more useless words the two continued through Al Fresca and back into the entrance plaza...
Natalie was obviously afraid however deep within her, her will would drive her to do many things. Luckily there didn't seem to be any undead in here.. Yet.. And that Eugene fella was around the corner so things should be fine.

"JESUS GUYS! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" he tottered around and looked at Carmen and Natalie. "I've managed to scrounge up some first-aid kits, but i won't be able to hold anything else. I'll head up and meet you down here in five minutes?" Eugene gathered his items and walked off before anyone could object. Up on the roof, He performed his ritual of throwing things off the edge. Today it was a propane tank. The horde below payed no attention, and without a spark, it wouldn't ignite. Sad. In the room again, he plugged in the CD player, and put in a remastered Kiss album, and put down the rest on the floor by it. He crept in the back hallway and glanced at the two sleeping children. "damn... I was hoping i could catch them awake." and laid the bears side-by-side on the bench, and crept out. "I'm off to Seon's!" he called, and left for the small party.
