Jake, the Hunter, and Meryl had finally made it to the edge of the crater that was Raccoon City. There was a destroyed building at the top, it seemed as though to have survived for the most part. The three had decided to rest here. Meryl stood at one of the destroyed windows, looking out at the small needle that was the facility. She let out a sigh. Did she make a bad choice to separate herself from Anna again? No... she must keep Anna safe by keeping those that would hurt her out on the front line. Even if it means for her to suffer. A gust of wind sent a chill to Meryl. "Damn... It's freezing..." She moaned, clenching her elbows. Even with the hooded sweater on, it wasn't enough to warm her. Too bad she left the thicker jacket she had on Antarctica on the plane. She moved to where Jake was sitting and climbed into her red sleeping bag. The hunter stood at the base of collapsed stairs, looking out towards a gaping hole. An electronic device was between his claws, the tracker. On the way here the hunter explained that Umbrella implanted a tracking chip in him and Eve as a fail safe in case they escaped. "Jake..." She started, looking over at him with an eyebrow raised. "Why did you come with us?" Of all the people she least expected him to raise his hand but she was glad, she could protect him easier... No, it wasn't the job anymore, maybe this guy wasn't so bad. She'd definitely rather him with than not.

“How about Echo?” Jake voiced his thoughts out loud. The Hunter would need a name and well, Echo sounded good enough. “Hmm…” He leaned against the wall and yawned a bit. For a scientist of his ‘brilliance’, he felt that he could have done better in picking a name for the beast, but that was all he could think of at the given moment. The fact that it was cold acted as a hindrance for his optimal thinking, but it didn’t bother him too much because he had left his kit at the tower.
It was then that he yawned and stretched before noticing Meryl. “Hmm? Me? Help was needed and so to make sure that I haven’t forgotten how to deal with the undead.” The last he had wrestled a zombie was months back when he had met up with Courtney. For a moment he thought of wanting to be with her, but then he convinced himself that she was dead. It sucked, but things happened.

The hunter looked back, analyzed the name and found he was satisfied with it. "That is acceptable. Echo... the repetition of a sound resulting from reflection of the sound waves. Interesting." He walked back nearish to the other two and let out a squeaky yawn before flopping to the floor. He didn't feel cold as much as the others. His blood was very warm. When Jake had answered Meryl's question, she responded with a simple "oh". She thought back to the point where Jake hit Matt, she was close enough to hear the confrontation. "Jake... About Matt... ... Nevermind. Get some rest. We've got more walking to do tomorrow." She said, yawning in the middle of the last word. She was freezing. "Don't get the wrong idea..." She mentioned to Jake, moving close to him. The warmth was quickly transferred between the two. She let out a sigh of relief and closed her eyes. The night ended quick. When Meryl opened her eyes, she was still close to Jake, he was still out. So was Echo. She stood up and stretched. The morning was colder than the night but it hadn't hit her with full force yet. Until now. A chill rushed through her spine. They packed warmer clothes, right? She went to one of the backpacks and pulled out a thick black jacket, the Umbrella logo was clear as day on the back. Not really caring, Meryl draped it over her. She looked around at the surroundings, waiting for the others to get rested, she wont wake them just yet. A slight tat tat and Echo reared up behind her. "We must get moving." He mentioned. Meryl nodded and walked over the Jake, kneeling down to shake him awake. "Time to go." Again they found themselves on the road. The crater quickly diminished into nothing. The three were now staring upon the frozen mountains. "This is going to suck." She mumbled. Were they equipped for snow? Probably not, but their bodies would likely be able to handle it.

“Don’t worry…” Jake allowed her to move close to him. If anything, what she was doing now was what she would sometimes do when she was little whenever Matt wasn’t free. He remembered that they were all at the snow once and Matt was with Liz, and they were busy, and so little Meryl was cold and decided to hug the closest person, him. “hmm…” Kids again, he thought.
Eventually, Jake had fallen into a sleep and when morning came, he was shaken awake. “Yeah. I’m up.” He stood up and shivered a bit, noticing that it got colder. The cool air hugged his body and so without hesitation he went to retrieve a warm jacket as well. It wasn’t too much different from Meryl’s, except maybe that it was for a man. After he zipped it all up, he followed after the two with his pack.
Later in the day, they reached the bottom of the mountains and Jake found himself looking up at their iciness. “Well,” he chuckled, “ this should be fun.” Looking up at the icy mountains reminded him of some of the people in asia living in their own mountain ranges. They had escaped the undead by fleeing and he thought it wasn’t a bad idea. It was hard to get up a mountain for everyone…but of course, they would need to start somewhere. ”Shall we go?”

Meryl drew in a breath and exhaled, mist taking place of the invisible air. "Right..." And so they started their journey. The slopes were tough, it didn't take long before they got to the "peaks", the mountains weren't too high, but high enough to snow. It was freakin cold, there was nothing to kill, so nothing to get the adrenaline pumping. They had been walking for at least a couple hours and Meryl was tired of it. Echo and Jake were in front of her, she stopped and they kept going. Finally she was too bored to do nothing. She knelt down, balled up some snow, picked it up and waited a second before launching it. It was a direct hit, the ball of snow shattered over Jake's head. He stopped. Meryl thought a second, how stupid she must seem to him, being childish and throwing a snow ball. It felt good and it took her mind off the cold, not to mention it was completely comical the way the ball seemed to pop over his head. Echo turned curiously, seeing the scene and not understanding it. Was this human nature? How will the male respond? and most of all, what's the use of this?

Jake stopped, stunned after the snowball shattered over his head. The snow caught onto his hair and melted causing some parts of his hair to flatten down a bit. At first, he wasn’t sure what had happened, but then he realized that Meryl was the only one behind the hunter and him. Before he knew it, a small, amused smile found its way onto his face, but instead of turning, he continued to walk up the mountain. When it seemed like he was really going to ignore it, he scooped up a pile of snow, balled up a not so spherical snowball, and launched it back at Meryl. His small smile had transformed into a playful grin during the process. “Haha!” He laughed. “Pay back!” Whether or not the snowball hit, he readied another snowball and decided that it was ‘war’!

Meryl watched him start walking again. She chuckled. "Yeah, keep walking. Pussy." She mumbled, slightly amused but also disappointed that he didn't want to continue it. She looked down the slope of the mountain. The crater of Raccoon City could easily be seen. It was amazing from up here. In her day dreams something crashed into her chest, some of the snow going down her jacket and even down her shirt. The sudden cold made her gasp comically. "Ohhh." She stated, her voice shaky from the cold going down her chest. "Y-you are soooo going to get it!" She shouted at him and ran for a tree. Once behind it she began piling up snow in three places. Meanwhile Echo stood aside, not wanting to join in but not caring to stop it. It was good to keep morale up, besides, he'll be able to learn about humans a bit more from this activity. Once she had the three snowballs in her left arm, she revealed herself, taking one out with her right hand and launching it at Jake, it missed but she had two more, she readied another and
---
The airborne snowball hit the smaller of the four figures. It took Sola a second to realize it even just happened. Jack chuckled from behind the tree. "Jack... You... You dumbass!" Jillian and Ayami seemed to look at each other, eager to ready their own arsenal. Keith slowed down a bit, not wanting to get in on the fray, being the quiet one like normal as his girlfriend was just pegged by a snowball. Ayami and Jillian knelt down quickly to gather up a few snowballs, Sola retreated back to Keith, amused enough to watch Jack get pummeled by two women.
---
An odd turn of events, the snow ball she through collided with one Jake's in mid air, Jake's snowball, being bigger, flung both into Meryl. "Aw." She retreated back behind the tree. Seeing that Echo continued his trek, Meryl Began moving from tree to tree, flinging snowballs every now and then. She felt warm now, things weren't as boring, and she could swear she's been hitting Jake more than he has her. Echo knew they were getting close. old broken chunks of wood was enough to say they were near where a building may have rested.

He watched her run for cover and soon enough, he found his own cover behind a giant boulder. Jake started his own piles and when he was readied with a snowball in each hand, he emerged. Meryl had revealed herself at the same time and without hesitation, Jake threw a snowball at her. He threw the other one to follow up and then retreated behind his boulder. Then, when he was forced to move to a tree higher up the mountain, he launched a snowball that collided with Meryl’s snowball. He saw that hit her and he started to laugh, forgetting to take cover. It was then that Meryl took the chance, after grabbing more snowballs, to pummel him. He tried to retreat, but the nearest cover was a bit farther up the mountain and in his haste, he slipped on some ice and fell forward. He rolled over in the snow and looked at Meryl. “Ok! You win! You win!” He’d get her real good later, but for now… Jake stood up and brushed some wood bits off of his pants.

Meryl was ready to toss another at him even if he was down in the snow but then he shouted that she won. She laughed freely. This was the funnest she had in a long time that didn't involve real violence. She tossed the snowball she had ready in the air then caught it, trying to be cool but it shattered when it hit her hand and fell through her gloves. She placed her hand on her hip and looked down at Jake. They were both slightly panting from the sudden activity and the cold. "That makes me the master of balls." She didn't realize what she said until after she said it. She laughed again. "Not in that way you sicko." She lightly kicked him then held out her hand to help him up. Once again they found themselves moving, Meryl was content, though. Finally all they were walking in was debris from a large building. Everything was old. "What happened here?" She asked freely, oddly enough Echo responded. "There is a facility here. Or was. It was hidden under a mansion. It's here where it all initially began. At least that's what Dr. Reef said." "Uh huh... And I'm assuming we're going to this lab and this lab is underground, right?" "Yes." "Naturally." The debris got thicker, there was even a long burnt couch leaning beside a tree. Then it revealed itself. An old elevator shaft, of course the elevator wasn't there, it was just a shaft, but that was their entrance. "This wont be easy, we don't have a whole lot of rope." Meryl said, looking down the shaft, it wasn't too large, you could see the bottom where the destroyed elevator rests. "Where should we even start?... And what's that odd smell?"

He accepted her hand and let her pull him up. Surprisingly, he had seen the woman smile and that, to him, was a rare occasion. From there on, he felt happy that he had made someone smile, but his own smile came to an end when they arrived at what must have been a large building. Jake looked around and nodded at Echo’s words, as he remembered his mother’s stories. It was then that Meryl assumed what was correct and soon they discovered the shaft they were to enter. “I wonder if she did security work here once…”
“I don’t know what’s that smell, but I’m willing to climb down and open a door…” Without saying much more, Jake took the rope and tied it to himself. He handed it off to Meryl and flashed one of his grins before he climbed down. As he climbed down, he skillfully used the few edges he could cling onto, lessening the weight for Meryl. “Alright!” He called up, “I’m going to try to open this door, if I suddenly weigh too much, I’m sorry!” Carefully, after he wrapped some of the rope on one of the edges, he started to pry open the door.
The metal screeched, protesting, as he pulled the doors apart and after a bit of work, the door opened after what seemed to be a release of air. Once he had opened it what had met him was a revolting smell and the ravenous eyes of the undead. Without wasting time, he began to climb back up again and with some effort, he had quickly managed to put some distance between him and the undead. “So…” He began, as he looked down while clinging to the wall, “It smells like dead people…” Jake laughed and looked back up. “Hey Meryl… See I am Indiana Jones!”

Meryl glanced at Jake when he spoke to himself about "she" doing security work. Who? She decided not to ask, it didn't matter, the place was rubble. Besides, Jake was quick to continue speaking, offering to climb down himself. Meryl thought a second, she would be lighter and probably better for it, but what the hay. If she's holding him then she'll be able to support him. "Okay." She said, slightly unsure if she was willing to let him. But in the end, the rope was attached and he went down. Meryl grabbed wrapped the rope around her arm and held with both hands. Her legs were positioned apart and knees bent, ready for his weight. Oddly enough, he was very light. Curious, she peered over the edge and saw what she could, he was holding himself for the most part. If this was him trying to prove something, it proves he has muscles, but muscles don't account for skill in battle against the undead. She chuckled, amused by her thoughts until his voice cut through her mind. She readied herself and the weight did increase quite a bit but she was able to hold him. She heard a slight gasp and the weight loosened. She leaned over for another peek, Jake had gone up. Why? Suddenly something came out into the shaft and fell, splattering... No... There wasn't much blood left, more like thudded on the shaft below. They were disgusting. How old were these zombies? "God..." Meryl winced. "I can smell it from up here. It's worse than a pile of rotting corpses." A few more fell in, Meryl waited for Jake to deem it safe enough to enter. He said something that made slight memories flash through her mind. Indiana Jones? Wait he was that cowboy like guy who did all those stunt in tombs. What did it have to do with Jake?
---
The five year old pointed up to the tree, tears streaming down her eyes. Minutes later the boy dropped from it and handed her the basketball that her brother launched. "Don't worry, I'm Indiana Jones." "Nuh uh, you don't have a rope." "I forgot it, besides, I don't need a rope!"
---
"Guess you don't need the rope after all." She mumbled, not knowing if Jake heard her or not. While this happened, Echo watched silently and yet curiously as the zombies fell willingly to their deaths... Deaths? No... Echo didn't have a word for when a B.O.W. dies.

Jake turned and gave her a boyish grin. “Told ya.” He responded, having heard her mumbling. Compared to Amanda, he had better hearing, or so he told himself…or maybe it was because Amanda ignored a lot. He didn’t know but all he knew was that he was good at hearing, but it didn’t take a genius hearer to hear the chain of moans started from the zombies that had plummeted to their end. In the corridor they stood in, Jake could hear the echoes of the undead. They were unsettling but something he expected.
“So…” He said, stashing the experimental ray gun thing and replacing it with his own handgun. “Echo…mind leading the way? You have the tracking device.” If it wasn’t Meryl, then he would have asked someone to hit him for being Captain Obvious.

When they were all able to get into the hallway that Jake selected, Meryl withdrew her Desert Eagle, Echo already had the device in hand when Jake murmured something about him leading the way, Meryl only cocked an eyebrow. With the suicidal undead out of the way, things should be quite simple. They began trucking, they were in a science department, there was no test tubes but there were many experiment and surgery beds. Meryl shook her head. "This is where it all started... I don't even want to know the horrors that went on here." She spoke, her voice echoing slightly with the decayed surroundings. Echo was quick to comment. "What you call horror, I call birth." Meryl didn't comment. The walls around them were cracked, the place almost seemed unstable. Meryl slowed slightly, Jake passed by her and she gazed at this weird shape of concrete sticking from the wall. It looked like two breast. "Hey Jake..." She said amused, her finger out to poke the kinky coincidence. Before she could, the wall busted apart, a humanoid figure grabbing Meryl instantly. The desert eagle fell to the floor a second before Meryl. On top of her was a naked man, his skin ripped apart but what portions were still there were bright red. His fingers produced claws that luckily weren't able to dig through the portions of clothing that Meryl wore. Next thing she knew, the red man rolled away from her, Jake had knocked it off. As if to signal, more growls and hisses came from the hole in the wall. Looked like this wont be as sunshine and lollipops as Meryl had hoped.

Jake, ready for whatever he might face, followed around the beastly leader. He was all for adventures and doing stuff he normally wasn’t allowed to do, but being in this place was a bit unsettling. Those undead couldn’t be the only things in here with them. That was impossible because this was Umbrella owned and if that was the case they would eventually be screwed.
Unfortunately, he was right.
Sure, the man laughed when he saw the boob shaped protrusions, but when he saw the humanoid, he stopped laughing. It looked like a zombie, but it was obvious that it was a different creature. Not really in the mood of examining it, like good scientists would, he quickly kicked it off of Meryl. For a split second, he felt empowered, but as soon as that was done, he realized that there were more of those sick fucks inside the busted hole in the wall.
Jake was sure that Meryl wouldn’t stupidly stand her ground. Jack would and as much as she didn’t want to admit it, his mother would too, but now wasn’t the time to compare balls. “Run!” After seeing their claws, he quickly came to a decision and ran for his life. He couldn’t risk infection and well, he didn’t want any one else getting infected. Dealing with nearly turned people wasn’t fun at all, especially if you knew them…

Meryl grabbed her gun as she pushed herself to her feet and by her companions. Hearing the others, she was ready to stand her ground. One of them showed their face and as soon as it did she heard Jake beside her telling her to run. "What?" She looked over and noticed that both Echo and Jake were on the move. "Shit!" She growled in frustration and began sprinting after them. If she could think, she would be thinking of how it would have been best to just deal with them right then and there but nooo, someone wants to enter unknown territory and expect not to be sealed off by wreckage. She glanced over her shoulder as she turned down a hallway, they were fast, they were definitely keeping up. This could have been avoided. Echo was in the lead, moving down the hallways until he entered through an open doorway. He stopped when he noticed the door was still intact. He waited for Jake and Meryl to enter then they all closed the door. Meryl and Echo holding onto it. "It's not latching!" Meryl shouted. Echo eyed Jake. "Find something to block the door." He spoke calmly. The braying got more intense as more beings began piling up on the other side of the door a few times it would knock Meryl and Echo forward but they'd ram it back in place. Waiting anxiously for Jake to solve their predicament.
