Townes and the rest of the Halteese held their ground as they continued their defense, artillary covering them from a distance. They had no idea of a third involvement. This war might last longer than it is expected.

Kusuma watched as a small force of her tanks rolled forward through the smoke. While they moved, she would give the go-code to the ships to fire. Meanwhile, Kanon tapped her foot impatiently at the main bunker they had captured. "This is going well." She spoke aloud sarcastically. "One of my commanders has gone missing, another is being supressed, and the other is taking forever to tell the ships to fire THEIR DAMN CANNONS!!" She peered out onto the battlefield. Burnt out vehicle shells, shell holes, and bodies riddled the floor. "The Halteese are testing me...playing with me...Nerve! Nerve! Nerve!" "Ma'am...may I suggest---" "I NEVER ASKED FOR YOUR SUGGESTION, BORIS!!!!" "But...if we just used airstrike--" "AIRSTRIKE! AIR ATTACK! THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE EXPECTING!! I bet those cliff tops are full of AA defenses." She grabbed her handset again and broadcasted a message to the enemy captain. "Don't think I'm not on to your game captain..." She said with great paranoia(sp?). "We see what you're trying to do. It's not gonna work."

Townes had an awkward expression as he spoke back. "Heh.... k..." He only said as he fired another shot then reloaded his weopon. This officer on the other line was truly a mental case, she's crazier than half the troops rushing in front of tanks with grenades.

"Astimov! Is something wrong?!" Kusuma transmitted again. "Where is that fire?! I've the given the go code!" Yuktobania was not aware of the third party either...or that the commander of their flagship was killed and an imposter was now in his place. Everything that went wrong would be immediatly blamed on Haltie. (quickey here...)

"Fire on coordinates 45, 67! I repeat! Fower-Fife and Siks-Seven!" The boats rocked just a bit as the payload of rounds meant for tanks rocketed toward Foxtrot, the objective name for that poor southern platoon. I pray they die quickly. there was but one target left, and this one was monumental. the control room itself. the planning room in which Kanon was barricaded into. "Hard starboard! 150 degrees!" a few crewmen doubled over as the boat lurched over.the entire ocean seemed to turn as all the rest of the fleet followed suit. "ENEMY SUB!" an alarming screech rang out through the boats. "NO! FLEET OF ENEMY SUBS!" "Sir! the Valkyrie was Hit! she's takin' on water fast! what to do!" "Run! full power to rear eng-" I felt like I was gonna vomit, and clenched my stomach. the soothing warmth almost overtook him, before he realized what it was. There, protruding like some ugly medal, stood the letters "-LKY-". It was hard to see. It was hard to breathe. it was hard to stand. I felt it in my left lung, only allowing me half a breath. my vision was blue now, my natural anesthesia made me lose my legs. "Med bay! ASAP!" the first lieutenant said, in slow motion. there was a pool of saliva in the back of my throat. it hurt to cough, yet it felt good, emptying my lungs of blood. The soothing warmth was all around me now. the pain comes in waves, and every time the pain stopped, anesthesia started, and every time that happened, I drifted nearer and nearer to sleep. I knew that if I slept, I would never have woken up, and yet, it was so inviting. Ironic, the assassin calls in the attack, and dies because of it. My suicide is a homicide, and I am guilty of it, myself... I laid back in the stretcher and relaxed. it's to late now, I know. I've been around this my whole adult life. Forty virgins in Heaven, and there's no doubt that I'm going to hell. "Oh well" is how I used my last dieing breath. "Sleep is now."

Enraged, Kanon contacted Kusuma again. "Where the hell did you tell them to fire?!! The platoon to the south was wiped out entirely! The Halteese have an escape route now!!" "I-I sent the coordinates you gave me it must have been a targeting mista-" "A mistake?! A MISTAKE?!! Kusuma you moron! It had to have been an enemy spy!" Kanon's tone was firm now, believing her reason was correct, which it was only, the Halteese weren't responsible. "The Halteese stationed a spy on our ship, and he tampered with the targeting system or elimated the targeting officer. Tell the ships to fire upon the Astimov." "But ma'am there is no proo-" "THAT'S AN ORDER, NAKAZATO!!! Or would you like to have a visit with a court marshal?" Kusuma, relucantly, raised her handset to her lips. "Attention...all Navy vessels.." she started, lowly. "This is Lieutenant Colonel Kusuma Nakazato. A battleship among you has been comandiered... all navy vessels, target the flagship Astimov...repeat..." The ground forces watched the fireworks begin, and the flagship began to list heavily portside. They wasted no time afterwards though, targeting the enemy subs. This little dilema would give the Yuke military another excuse to enlist more men to fight for them against the Halteese. Both the army and the navy were confused and disoriented. They were playing in the Ustian dictator's hands.

A call came in on the radio. "Townes! Their south platoon has been annihilated! The shots were fired from their flag ship, and get this, their own ships are now firing upon that ship. Hurry and retreat!" Townes looked around a few to wonder what the hell was going on. 'Could it be a trap? I have no knowledge of any spies..' He thought then nodded. "Men! Retreat!" He yelled as the group began slowly retreating but keept their eyes open for any ambushes.

"Huh? Kusuma! They are pulling back! And that means the pressure on Field Commander Shawzre should be lightening up too..hmm...this could play in our favor." Kanon broadcasted again, foolishly allowing this message to flow among all channels. "But ma'am...aren't you concerned about the fleet?" "The traitor has been scilened, and they're dealing with the subs. There is nothing to be concerned about." "If you say so..." "Anyway! Kusuma, Shwazre! Ready your forces! We'll be able to push into this camp soon." "But ma'am..." The male field commander interjected. "The artillery?" "If the Captain has half a brain, he'd be wise enough to move those away, too...if not, I'll enjoy playing with my new toys." The Halteese defenders were pulling out slowly, moving to the nearest friendly fortress a few miles south of there. If that fortress fell however, then they would be forced to fortify the urban areas beyond that...innocent civilians would be caught in a crossfire. Kanon boomed into her radio again. "Kusuma, Shwazre! Status report?!"
"My force is suffering heavy damage from the continued resistance from the Halteese still fighting back, ma'am." The male responded.
"My force is down to 40% I've suffered heavy casulties from the artillery barrages, and not only that, the charred remains of my tanks are still ablaze, I can't see anything through the smoke. I refuse to advance until it has cleared up."
"WHAT?!! You buffoons complain to much! This is the best time to capitlize while they retreat! They'll get away if we don't act now!!"

Townes turned his radio on and spoke to the artillary commander. "Pull back. Find another location and lay low until the order comes through." He ordered as the ground forces continued their slow retreat. It wouldn't be long now until they reach the other base where many fresh reinforcements wait, eager for battle.

"Huh? Kusuma! They are pulling back! And that means the pressure on Field Commander Shawzre should be lightening up too..hmm...this could play in our favor." "But ma'am...aren't you concerned about the fleet?" "The traitor has been silenced, and they're dealing with the subs. There is nothing to be concerned about." "If you say so..." "Anyway! Kusuma, Shwazre! Ready your forces! We'll be able to push into this camp soon." "But ma'am..." The male field commander interjected. "The artillery?" "If the Captain has half a brain, he'd be wise enough to move those away, too...if not, I'll enjoy playing with my new toys." The crackle of the radio told all they needed to know. "Captain! A transmission just came in from Kanon! Haltie is retreating! If we advance now, we can catch the Yuke pigs off guard!" "Excellent! I want four sharp shooters on the ridges around Field Commander Shwazre. Lieutenant Khan! Take Gomez, Scotty, and Williams! Initiate operation Enterprise!" "ROGER!" Kanon's continued rantings filled the morning air for some hours more.

"Sandman, take the east position! Vulcan, west! Lonestar and I will take the south!" "Aye sir!" "How do you know this'll work, Archer?" "I don't know... I just follow the orders." "50. cal rounds?" "Check!" "Check!" "Check!" Four simultaneous shots rang out from the hillsides.

During that time, Shwazre was doing his best commanding his troops to get into the main camp. Resistance dwindled to nothing more than machine gun fire, which couuld not really harm the tanks. "Lieutenant Colonel, General!" He stared. "I've began my advance up to the camp! I'll arrive in---" He never finished that transmission, for the snipers had focused on him, and he of course was killed...but he had left his radio on..meaning they knew had, due to the yells of his confused infantrymen. "Oh shit!" One yelled. "W-what are we gonna do now?!" "Calm down! Just calm down..." "Tell the others! Quick!" "Umm...this Private first class Sherman...uhh..the Field Commander was killed...by sniper fire. Ca-can one of you help us with our advance?" Kanon nodded, seeming to not be affected at all by this. "Lieutenant Colonel?" But a groveling voice was what greeted her. "Y-yes...general?" She replied, taking pauses to sniffle. "I need you too...are you crying?" "N-n-no ma'am..." She lied, but it was obvious she was. If she could see her now, Kusuma would be sitting on the ground with her legs crossed, hugging her rifle as if it were a teddy bear. "Listen you! Better suck it up right now! Make sure those men get up safely! Or else!" Wiping away the number of eye droplets from her face, she stood, took a deep breath, and spoke into her handset. "Private first c-class.." She started with a sniffle. "I want you to make sure all the infantry get into an APC. No one else will be picked off by a sniper. Got that? After that. Roll up the hill in that armored column, destroying any resistance on the way up. Our forces will m-meet up soon..." She ended her transmission there. "Roger..." "Great!" The General boomed throughout the handset again. "Now do the same Lieutenant Colonel! We'll rendevous In twenty minutes time!"

The Halteese were now in front of their base. Large walls over took it and behind lied more artillary, many guard towers constructed so that troops with RPGs and machine guns sat on top. This wasn't their main camp, but it was one of the main defences. An exceptable number of reinforcements lied behind the walls waiting for battle.

"Target down sir! One bullet entered through the face, the others were chest shots!" "lemme see those." I took the high powered binoculars from Lonestar, and brushed the moss out from in front of my face. "Excellent work, men. back home!" the scene down there was chaotic. each one of his men were losing their mind! "Take pot shots while I radio the commander." shots rang out time after time, no doubt hitting their targets. "good work, Gomez, come back to base." "we're are picking off the rest of the squad, sir, ETA zero fife-thirty." "take your time." the scene was devastating. peering through the binoculars, I could see the mangled bodies of the attack. the Vally stained crimson, the dead and wounded lay there, no will to live anymore. every once in a while, a man was seen dragging himself to the dead medic, as if anything could help the poor soul live. They never got to him before they exhausted themselves and died. there were some without limbs, some without chest cavities, and the good shots left them without not much of a head to speak of. chunks of flesh litter the ground, in a mosaic of muscle and blood. "I guess we didn't need the armor piercing rounds after all, sarge!" "I guess we didn't. lets pack up and go home, boys." cheering was heard through the radio. "Total success!" "Allllllllllrighhhht!" "HOO-RAH!" "careful, Lonestar, loose soil rig-" that's all he was able to get out before he took a 50 foot plunge. another body littered the valley, except this one was different.

The Yuktobanian force had massed together at the captured camp, half ecstatic and half grieving. But grieving the most would be the female field commander, Kusuma Nakazato. "Scout helicopter here." A transmission came from the radio. "The cliff side is clear. You send in a body retrieval team now." A lone APC traveled back down the cliff, where the heavy resistance battle took place. Kusuma had volunteered to come as well. When the APC halted, she was the first out of course, anxious to find the body of her fallen loved one. It didn't take very long to find him, since his uniform was very different from the other shoulders. She knelt down next to him, choking on sobs, as she examined his body. Four bullet holes, one in the head, three in the chest. She fell on her other knee, her hands on her face, sobbing. Removing her hands to fall upon the body, to hug it. Se wanted something to wipe her nose and eyes, and a body very close by looked like a handkerchief was in the breast pocket. She doubled over to it, and yanked it from the pouch. Blowing her nose into it, she noticed something about the body she just stole from. It's uniform was not from one of their armies. And the flag patch on the shoulder matched neither Yuktobania or Haltie. "The general might be interested in this..." She mumbled, brandishing a field knife. She started to saw into the uniform, removing the patch a moment later. "Lieutenant Colonel!" One of the party members addressed her. "You found his body! Good. Good. Help me drag it back to the truck, would you?" "Wait private!" Kusuma stopped him. "What do you think of this symbol?" He studied it, his expression obviously confused. "Umm..I failed geography, so I wouldn't know. But the general might."

Suddenly Townes' radio went off. "Sir, this Corprol O'Herin." Shouted the radio as Townes responded. "What?" He said looking to make sure they weren't being persued. "Sir, I'm part of the scout squad.. You aren't going to believe this. Yuke bodies litter the valley, a Yuke apc is out there now, two soldiers can be seen. They're inspecting a body, perhaps we're not the only ones sir." Townes looked around with bewilderment. "Just.... Come back." He order as the corprol affirmed and left with the small squad he was with.
